[DMANET] Call for Papers: Special Issue of the journal Networks on Robust Network Optimization

Call for Papers: Special Issue of the journal "Networks" on Robust Network
Optimization

Network parameters such as those defining the traffic matrix are generally
uncertain. This uncertainty is typically the result of two factors: the
intrinsic variability of the network parameters and the lack of information
about these parameters. Consequently, it is important to take uncertainty
into account when the network is designed or/and managed.

Robust Optimization is one of the techniques that can help to incorporate
uncertainty.

We would like to receive original, high-quality research papers that address
Robust Network Optimization. We are especially interested in submissions
contributing to the following areas:

- Robust routing under uncertainty.
- Resource assignment under uncertainty (dimensioning, provisioning,
wavelength assignment, etc.)
- Survivability under uncertainty.
- Network location under uncertainty.
- Exact and approximation algorithms for robust network optimization
problems.

Submissions should be electronically sent to Pr. Walid BEN-AMEUR (Telecom
SudParis, CNRS Samovar, France) at Walid.benameur@it-sudparis.eu no later
than 31 January, 2013.

[DMANET] CfP: Workshop on Nonlinear Optimization and Constraint Programming

Call for Papers
------------------------------------------------------------
Workshop on Nonlinear Optimization and Constraint Programming

To be held in conjunction with the
18th International Conference on
Principles and Practice of Constraint Programming (CP 2012)
Québec City, Canada

https://sites.google.com/site/minlpworkshop2012

This workshop has the purpose of bringing together scholars that work
on nonlinear optimization, in particular Mixed Integer Nonlinear
Programming (MINLP) problems, which combine nonlinear constraints with
integrality on one or more variables. MINLP and Constraint Programming
(CP) have a significant overlap of techniques, ranging from domain
reduction to implicit enumeration techniques to heuristic algorithms
for finding good feasible solutions.

This workshop is organized within the CP2012 conference and aims at
attracting both CP and MINLP practitioners to discuss new
developments. It is motivated by recent exciting results in both
disciplines.

The organizing committee invites submissions of a short abstract (not
more than 4000 characters) describing original work on a problem or
application of MINLP, CP, or both, with a special emphasis on the
nonlinear characteristics of the problem. Topics of interest include
(but are not limited to):

- Domain reduction techniques in Global optimization;
- Quadratically constrained quadratic programming;
- Reformulations in MINLP solvers;
- Using CP methods in MINLP solvers;
- Software for MINLP and CP;
- Decomposition techniques for large scale MINLP and CP problems;
- Challenging real-world applications of MINLP and CP.

The submissions will be evaluated by the program committee and a
selection of abstracts will be admitted for presentation at the
workshop. We encourage the submission of new challenging problems,
especially those that are not available in online libraries such as
minlp.org, GlobalLib, and MinlpLib. Note that registration at the
CP2012 conference is necessary to attend and present at the workshop.

Abstracts can be submitted by email to Pietro Belotti at
pbelott@clemson.edu

Important Dates:

- September 15, 2012: Abstract submission due (deadline extended)
- September 20, 2012: Notification of acceptance

-- Instructions for submissions

Extended abstracts. Authors are invited to submit an extended abstract
in English (up to 6 pages), containing original research results. The
authors are fully responsible of convincing the referees of the
correctness and interest of their results using only those six pages.
Authors can add an optional appendix with proofs, sketches of proofs,
or additional material. If included, the appendix will be read at the
discretion of the Scientific Committee and it is expected that it will
only be used to reach a decision for very unusual cases. The appendix
has no page limit, and since it will not be published, it cannot be
referenced in the extended abstract. Submission of a paper implies
that the work described has not been previously published (except in
the form of a short abstract or as part of a lecture or academic
thesis), that it is not simultaneously submitted elsewhere, and that,
if accepted, it will not be published elsewhere in the same form. A
special volume of Electronic Notes in Discrete Mathematics (ENDM) will
be dedicated to accepted extended abstracts. The extended abstracts
must comply with the ENDM LaTeX style and are limited to 6 pages,
including the front matter, text, and references. Instructions for
submission preparation may be obtained in the ENDM web page
(www.elsevier.com/locate/endm). Once prepared, the paper should be
submitted by means of the Easy Chair system
(https://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=lagos13).

Posters. Submissions of posters on all areas related to the symposium
are also solicited. Posters must also be submitted for review in the
form of an extended abstract formatted in the ENDM style
(www.elsevier.com/locate/endm), and must not exceed 2 pages in length.
Posters should also be submitted via the Easy Chair System
(https://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=lagos13). Accepted
posters will NOT appear in the ENDM special volume, but they will
appear in the symposium's booklet. Posters will be presented at the
symposium in a separate session.

Following the tradition of LAGOS, a special issue of Discrete Applied
Mathematics will be prepared after LAGOS'13. All authors of accepted
papers at the symposium are invited to contribute to this special
volume. The topics should relate to the central themes of the
symposium, but are not necessarily restricted to the presentations at
LAGOS'13. All articles will be refereed according to the standards of
Discrete Applied Mathematics.

[DMANET] ALENEX 2013 - Call for Papers

**********************************************************************

ALENEX 2013 - MEETING ON ALGORITHM ENGINEERING & EXPERIMENTS

January 7, 2013
Astor Crowne Plaza Hotel
New Orleans, Lousiana, USA
http://www.siam.org/meetings/alenex13

**********************************************************************

- SCOPE -

The aim of ALENEX is to provide a forum for the presentation of
original research in the design, implementation, and experimental
evaluation of algorithms and data structures. Typical submissions will
include an extensive experimental analysis of nontrivial algorithmic
results, ideally bridging the gap between theory and practice. We also
invite submissions that address methodological issues and standards in
the experimental evaluation of algorithms and data structures. Some
possible areas of applied algorithmic research include but are not
limited to databases; networks, including web applications; operations
research; and computational problems in the natural sciences or
engineering. Submissions are encouraged that address algorithms and
data structures for advanced models of computing including memory
hierarchies and parallel computing, ranging from instruction
parallelism over multicore computing to exascale and cloud computing.

ALENEX is co-located with the ACM-SIAM Symposium on Discrete
Algorithms (SODA13), and Analytic Algorithmics and Combinatorics
(ANALCO13). Since researchers in all fields are approaching the
problem of learning detailed information about the performance of
particular algorithms, we expect that interesting synergies will
develop.

Proceedings of ALENEX and ANALCO will be published openly and
electronically in December 2012. A special issue of the ACM Journal of
Experimental Algorithmics will be dedicated to selected papers from
ALENEX13.

A paper that has been reviewed and accepted for presentation at SODA
is not eligible for submission to ALENEX. We recognize, however, that
some research projects spawn multiple papers that elaborate on
different aspects of the work, and are willing to respond to inquiries
about SODA, ALENEX, and ANALCO papers that may overlap. regarding
ALENEX may be sent to ALENEX co-chairs Peter Sanders (sanders@kit.edu)
or Norbert Zeh (nzeh@cs.dal.ca).

ALENEX is supported by SIAM (Society for Industrial and Applied
Mathematics) and SIGACT (ACM Special Interest Group on Algorithms and
Computation Theory).

- SPECIAL NOTICE OF CHANGES FOR 2013 -

ALENEX will be offered as a fourth "track" on the second day of SODA
(January 7, 2013). The ANALCO and ALENEX programs will be integrated
with the SODA program and all papers will be available online before
the conference. The integration of ALENEX into the SODA programme
leads to a tight time line after acceptance of papers. Thus, there
are two deadlines for accepted papers: one for submission of final
title and abstract of the paper for inclusion in the programme booklet
and one for submission of the final version of the paper to be included
in the electronic proceedings.

- IMPORTANT DATES -

Submission: September 25, 2012 (11:59 EDT)
Notification of authors: October 22, 2012
Final version of title and abstracts: October 29, 2012
Camera-ready paper: November 13, 2012

- SUBMISSIONS -

Authors are invited to submit a 10-page extended abstract. Authors may
include a clearly marked appendix, which will be read at the discretion
of the programme commitee.

Papers should begin with the title of the paper, each author's name,
affiliation, and e-mail address, followed by a clear statement of the
problem considered, a succinct summary of the results obtained, a
brief discussion of the significance and novelty of the research, and
a clear comparison with related work. The remainder of the extended
abstract should provide sufficient detail to allow the program
committee to evaluate the validity, quality, and relevance of the
contribution.

Submissions should be typeset in single column format, using 11-point
or larger font, with reasonable margins and line spacing. Excluding
the title page and bibliography, the extended abstract must not exceed
ten pages. Supplementary material may be included in the appendix and
will be read at the discretion of the reviewers.

Authors of accepted papers are strongly encouraged to submit publicly
available code and data to the ACM Journal of Experimental
Algorithmics Research Code Repository via
http://www.jea.acm.org/repository/.
