[DMANET] Final Program for PDADS 2022 Virtual Workshop is coming Monday August 29 2022 - Registration is FREE!

Dear Colleague,

Please consider attending the Second International Workshop on Parallel and Distributed Algorithms for Decision Sciences (PDADS) this Monday August 29 2022.

The registration for this VIRTUAL workshop is FREE and the online registration form can be accessed at:

https://framaforms.org/icpp22-free-pre-registration-1656607917

The final schedule for the workshop program can be accessed at:

https://www.csm.ornl.gov/workshops/PDADS2022/program.html

PDADS started in the middle of the pandemic as a virtual workshop and continues to remain virtual this year. The hope is that in coming years, we can all meet in person to maximize our interactions and further grow the workshop in its scope and attendance.

A nascent workshop such as the PDADS greatly benefits from the attendance of diverse pools of researchers. So, we hope that you will encourage your colleagues, collaborators and students to also register and attend this workshop.

We look forward to seeing you at the workshop this Monday!

With best regards,
PDADS 2022 Chairs

[DMANET] [CFP] CARDINAL 2023 - 1st International Workshop on Cost-effective Algorithms for Robots and Drones In Novel AppLications

CARDINAL 2023 - 1st International Workshop on Cost-effective Algorithms for Robots and Drones In Novel AppLications

January 4-7, 2023
co-located with ICDCN 2023

Website: https://cardinal2023.github.io/
Submission link: https://easychair.org/conferences/submission_new?a=29224148

Aims and Scope
Recently, the rapid development of Unmanned Vehicles (UVs) such as Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGVs) (i.e., robots) and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) (i.e., drones), has highlighted a myriad of new emergent applications such as infrastructure inspection and surveillance, smart agriculture, monitoring, search and rescue, parcel delivery, communications, and post-disaster recovery, just to mention a few. In all these novel applications, ground and aerial vehicles may jointly work together, and also coexist with ground Internet of Things (IoT) devices. For instance, multiple UGVs can perform particular tasks relying on the IoT sensors' perceived data, while a swarm of UAVs can assist the UGVs relaying the collected data by the UGVs to the base station, in order to infer opportune decisions and take actions. Therefore, efficient data collection and networking algorithms should be devised for.
For this workshop, we are looking for papers that combine the design of novel algorithms and testbed implementations to develop the theoretical foundations for UVs as well as the synergies with IoT devices. The numerous emergent applications raised by IoT may require an interdisciplinary approach, involving techniques from algorithm foundations and different areas, such as computer networks, artificial intelligence, concurrent, parallel and distributed computing, networking, security, digital signal, image and sound processing.

[DMANET] (Tomorrow, August 25th) DEON Seminar Series Summer Edition: Juliano Maranhao

The Society of Deontic Logic and Normative Systems (DEON) has launched
a seasonal online seminar series designed to promote interdisciplinary
cooperation amongst scholars interested in linking the formal-logical study
of normative concepts, normative language, and normative systems with
computer science, artificial intelligence, linguistics, philosophy,
organization theory, and law. We view the seminar series as an opportunity
to keep in touch with the DEON community and listen in or contribute to
presentations and informal discussions on ongoing work. Everyone who is
interested in this wonderful area and its questions is welcome.

We are happy to announce that our speaker for the DEON summer seminar will
be

*Juliano Maranhão *
*(University of São Paulo)*

*Reasoning with rules and values*
*Although there may be discussion within legal theory about the status of
values (morality and public policy) with respect to legal validity, there
is a wide acceptance that reasoning with values is an important aspect of
the interpretation and application of legal rules. In this lecture, I shall
discuss some critical questions regarding the role of values, its dynamic
and effect of changing the content and even compromising the validity of
positive rules. I shall then present a logical model to represent such
dynamic and to cover those critical junctures.*

Overview
Road traffic congestion and air pollution can be significantly reduced through an increased use of public transport. In addition, providing well organized transport service leads to economic and social benefits to the community. Efficiency and reliability are crucial aspects that every potential passenger takes into account when choosing to travel by their car or instead with public transport means.

Advanced Operations Research methods have been extensively and effectively applied to real-life case studies and have shown their capability of improving the performance of public transport services both in planning and during operations. Despite the good achievements reached by academic research, these techniques are still only rarely used in practice.

This Special Issue addresses the challenges posed by real-life applications in public transport, and the novel approaches that can effectively tackle them with a special focus on the perspective of the transport companies. On one hand, the goal is to collect new methods that are/can be applied in practice showing their usefulness and encouraging public transport companies to more deeply take advantage of OR approaches. On the other hand, giving visibility to the needs of companies and practitioners could help the academic community better understand and identify promising future research directions.

We invite scientists and practitioners to contribute with innovative exact and heuristic algorithms tackling strategic, tactical or real-time problems, with results obtained on real-life applications, and with emphasis on the managerial outlook.
