[DMANET] Post-doc position in Formal Methods for computer-aided education, U. of Lisbon, Portugal

There is a PostDoc position opening (30 months) within the project INFOCOS.
Candidates with interest in SW analysis, formal methods, or
machine-learning are particularly welcome.

The PostDoc will work on the development of a new generation of tools for
computer-aided education. The objective is to develop methods to improve
automated feedback that would help the student to make progress even
without the help of a lecturer. The development will be based in Formal
Methods (FM) and should contribute to state-of-the-art in FM as well as
other fields.

The workplace will be INESC-ID — a research institute associated with

INTRODUCTION
=============

*Towards Scalable Computing Systems and Networks*

Scalability is one of the key evaluation criteria of computing systems. In
particular, scalability is essential in HPC systems. High scalability
represents a kind of elasticity, which can guarantee high throughput, small
delay and high performance. Additionally, with the need to process the data
deluge and to solve complex large scale problems, new architectures using
computing accelerator, e.g., Graphic Processing Unit (GPU) and Many
Integrated Core (MIC) have emerged. Improvements to these architectures are
still needed in order to use them in large scale heterogeneous systems.
Similarly, new parallel algorithms, software, and tools are needed to
improve scalability.

The 19th IEEE International Conference on Scalable Computing and
Communications (ScalCom 2019) will provide a forum for researchers to
present their original work on scalable parallel and distributed computing.
This conference will also offer a unique opportunity to exchange ideas at
the highest technical level related to communication networks, performance
analysis and distributed applications with particular emphasis on
scalability.

PAPER SUBMISSION GUIDELINE

A submission is limited to 8 pages for a main conference paper, 6 pages for
a workshop or special session paper, and 4 pages for a poster or demo paper
in the IEEE Computer Society Proceedings Format with Portable Document
Format (.pdf). A submission can have at most 2 additional pages with the
pages overlength charge if accepted.

PAPER PUBLICATION

==================

Accepted conference papers will be published by IEEE CPS (IEEE-DL and EI
indexed). At least one author of each accepted paper is required to
register and present their work at the conference; otherwise the paper will
not be included in the proceedings. Best Paper Awards will be presented
to high quality papers. Selected papers will be recommended to special
issues.

LCC meetings are aimed at the foundational interconnections between
logic and computational complexity, as present, for example, in
implicit computational complexity (descriptive and type-theoretic
methods); deductive formalisms as they relate to complexity
(e.g. ramification, weak comprehension, bounded arithmetic, linear
logic and resource logics); complexity aspects of finite model theory
and databases; complexity-mindful program derivation and verification;
computational complexity at higher type; and proof complexity. The
program will consist of invited lectures as well as contributed talks
selected by the Program Committee.

*The Profile*

The Laboratory of Digital and Computational Demography, headed by MPIDR
Director Emilio Zagheni, is looking for candidates with a background in
Software Development/Software Engineering, who will support scientific
projects at MPIDR and collaborate closely with researchers on their
implementation.

Candidates are expected to have a solid knowledge of, and relevant
experience with, at least some of the following: (i) low/mid-level
programming languages (e.g., C, C++, C#, Java), (ii) high-level languages
commonly used in the scientific community (e.g., Python and R) and related
statistical/data science libraries, (iii) Web Development (Front-end and
Back-end, APIs e.g. Facebook Marketing API), (iv) Mobile Application
Development (Android, IOS), (v) Data Management (SQL) and High Performance
Computing.

A PhD in Computer Science, Informatics or a related discipline (or
equivalent level of experience) is desirable. The successful candidate will
work with an international team of scientists that are advancing the field
of digital and computational demography. Her/his profile should include:
(i) excellent communication skills, including high proficiency in written
and spoken English; (ii) the ability to work in teams and to support the
full life cycle of scientific projects from a software development
perspective; (iii) an interest in deepening and expanding relevant
knowledge and skills, and in coauthoring research articles or reports.
*The Position and Remuneration*

The position is full time (39 hours/week), to start as soon as possible.
The contract is initially limited to 2 years, with the possibility of
tenure. The MPIDR offers a competitive salary that starts at approx. 54,000
EUR gross per year depending on relevant experience (pay scale 14 TVöD
Bund). Remuneration is based on the salary structure of the German public
sector and includes employees' benefits in accordance with the rules of
federal employees in Germany.

[DMANET] Research grant: Emerging Optimization Models for Transportation

Research grant in "Optimization Models for Transportation with
Crowdsourcing"

INESC TEC is accepting applications to award one Postdoctoral Grant in
project "LASTMILE - Rethinking last-mile delivery through
crowdsourcing".

Project overview:
This project deals with inviting in-store customers for delivering
parcels, ordered by on-line customers, on their way home. The
remaining parcels must be delivered by the company's fleet of
professional drivers, whose route is optimized as a vehicle routing
problem. This allows reducing environmental impacts and urban
congestion. The project concerns the development of models and tools
for solving this problem, which turns out to be a very challenging
stochastic combinatorial optimization problem.

Over the past decade, the ACM International Conference on Distributed
and Event-based Systems (DEBS) has become the premier venue for academia
and industry to discuss cutting-edge research of event-based computing
related to Big Data, AI/ML, IoT and Distributed Systems. The objectives
of the ACM International Conference on Distributed and Event-Based
Systems (DEBS) are to provide a forum dedicated to the dissemination of
original research, the discussion of practical insights, and the
reporting of experiences relevant to distributed systems and event-based
computing. The conference aims at providing a forum for academia and
industry to exchange ideas.

Research Track
=====
The DEBS conference covers topics in distributed and event-based
computing. The scope of the conference includes systems dealing with
collecting, detecting, processing and responding to events through
distributed middleware and applications. Examples of application domains
covered by the conference include the Internet of Things, sensor
networks, social networking, finance, healthcare and logistics, computer
and network security. Technologies discussed include real-time
analytics, complex-event detection, reliability and resilience, energy
management and green computing, data stream processing, big/fast data
analysis, event processing for AI/ML, AI/ML for event processing,
security and encryption in stream processing, embedded systems, and
cloud, peer-to-peer, ubiquitous and mobile computing. Topics relevant to
enterprise-level computing include enterprise application integration,
real-time enterprises, Web services and support for enterprises to
respond in timely fashion to changing situations.

Topics covered include, but are not limited to:
- Models, architectures and paradigms: Event-driven architectures,
real-time analytics, complex event processing, event processing for
AI/ML, event processing in big and fast data, data stream processing,
security and encryption in stream processing, rule-based systems,
in-network processing, logic-based event recognition, event correlation
and pattern languages.
- Systems and software: Distributed data processing, distributed
programming, federated event-based systems, AI/ML for event processing,
information-centric networking, software-defined networking, security,
reliability and resilience, programmable hardware, energy management and
green computing as well as cloud, fog, ubiquitous and mobile computing.
- Applications: Use cases, requirements and applications of distributed
and event-based systems in various domains including Internet-of-Things,
cyber-physical systems, sensor networks, social networking, multimedia
analytics, finance, healthcare and logistics, computer and network
security, smart contracts and blockchains. Also, relevant topics span
enterprise-level computing, including enterprise application
integration, real-time enterprises, event-based business process
management, and support for enterprises to respond in timely fashion to
changing situations.

Industry and Experience Reports Track
=========
The DEBS 2019 Industry and Experience Reports Track invites submissions
on innovative design, development, or deployments of event-based
systems. Contributions will be reviewed by researchers and industry
practitioners working in distributed and event-based computing.

An important goal of DEBS is to enrich and cultivate cooperation and
exchange between researchers and practitioners who work on distributed
or event-based systems. Such interactions help practitioners become
aware of leading edge research that can address issues and problems in
commercial systems, while also allowing researchers to learn more about
details and concerns with event-based or distributed applications and
systems that arise in commercial implementations and deployments.

We welcome submissions in the form of either a full Industry Track paper
or an Industry Experience report. Submissions should present novel work
and experiences with relevant topics including, but not limited to, the
following:
- Use cases and applications of event-based or distributed approaches
- Models, architectures and paradigms of event-driven or distributed systems
- Hardware acceleration (e.g., GPUs, FPGAs) for event-based or
distributed systems
- Cloud-based infrastructure (VMs or containers) for event-based or
distributed systems
- Distributed systems trade-offs for event-based applications
- Event-based or distributed systems reliability and fault tolerance

Submissions
===========
All submissions must be original and unpublished. Accepted papers will
be published by ACM and disseminated through the ACM Digital Library.

Authors Take Note: A new policy by ACM will allow DEBS 2019 to make the
proceedings available ahead of the conference via the ACM Digital
Library. Thus, the official publication date is the date the proceedings
appear in the ACM Digital Library. This date may be up to two weeks
prior to the first day of the conference. The official publication date
affects the deadline for any patent filings related to published work.

The conference adopts a double-blind review process for the research
track, where neither authors nor reviewers know each other's identities.
This means that papers must not list or otherwise identify the authors.
References to previous work should be done in the third person as to not
reveal the identities of the authors. Research track submissions that
are not anonymous may be rejected without review.

Research Track papers must be no longer than 12 pages. The authors of
accepted papers will be given a choice between different copyright
agreements, in accordance with the recent changes in the ACM policy. The
options will include new opportunities for open access as well as the
traditional ACM copyright agreement. Further information about the

Submissions to the research track will be evaluated by a Research
Program Committee, listed here:

Submissions to the Industry Track should clearly indicate whether they
are an Industry Track Paper or an Industry Experience Report. Industry
Track papers should cover some novel use or development of event-based
applications or distributed systems, with an industry theme, and must be
no longer than 12 pages. Industry Experience Reports can be specific to
a single project or system, or to an industry domain, and should cover
some valuable, new or alternative view of event processing or
distributed systems in an end-user application area. Industry Experience
reports are in the form of extended abstracts, do not need to be full
papers, and must be no longer than 6 pages.

An Industry Program Committee will review all submissions to the
Industry Track using a single-blind process, unlike the double-blind
reviews in the Research Track, so information about the authors and
their affiliations should be present in all submissions.

The Edsger W. Dijkstra Prize in Distributed Computing is named for
Edsger Wybe Dijkstra (1930-2002), a pioneer in the area of distributed
computing. His foundational work on concurrency primitives (such as
semaphores), concurrency problems (such as mutual exclusion and
deadlock), finding shortest paths in graphs, fault-tolerance, and
self-stabilization are important supports upon which the field of
distributed computing is built. No other individual has had a larger
influence on research in principles of distributed computing.

The prize is given for outstanding papers on the principles of
distributed computing, whose significance and impact on the theory
and/or practice of distributed computing has been evident for at least a
decade. The Prize includes an award of $2000.

The Prize is sponsored jointly by the ACM Symposium on Principles of
Distributed Computing (PODC) and the EATCS Symposium on Distributed
Computing (DISC). This award is presented annually, with the
presentation taking place alternately at ACM PODC and EATCS DISC. In
2019, it will be presented at DISC 2019. The winners of the award will
share the cash award, and each winning author will be presented with a
plaque. An announcement of each year's prize recipient(s) will be
included in the PODC and DISC proceedings of that year, describing the
paper's lasting contributions.

Nominations and Eligibility:

Nominations may be made by any member of the scientific community. Each
nomination must identify the paper being nominated and include a support
letter justifying the nomination, as well as a one-paragraph summary.
Papers appearing in any conference proceedings or journals are eligible,
as long as they have had a significant impact on research areas of
interest within the theory of distributed computing community, and as
long as the year of the original publication is at least ten years prior
to the year in which the award is given.

Papers authored or co-authored by members of the Award Committee will
not be eligible for consideration. Members of the Award Committee can
nominate papers. However, they must carefully consider nominations from
within the community. Members of the Award Committee will be especially
sensitive to conflict-of-interests issues if papers by former students
or close colleagues are nominated. (Members of the Award Committee
cannot nominate such papers themselves.)

Your nomination must be sent to the chair of the 2019 Award Committee,
Faith Ellen (faith@cs.toronto.edu). The nomination deadline is March 30,
2019.


Selection Process:

Although the Award Committee is encouraged to consult with the
distributed computing community at large, the Award Committee is solely
responsible for the selection of the winner of the award. The prize may
be shared by more than one paper. All matters relating to the selection
process that are not specified here are left to the discretion of the
Award Committee.

*Abstract*: The project is concerned with job shop models where the
routes and processing times are uncertain and where there are limits on
what jobs can be in progress simultaneously. The uncertain routes are
common in maintenance context when inspection or testing at some stage
causes the necessity to partly repeat some already completed operations.
The duration of such additional operations as well as their nature may
significantly vary from job to job and normally cannot be predicted with
certainty. Another distinctive feature of the job shop models that will
be the subject of the proposed project is the role of storage. The
objective of proposed research is threefold: the development of new
stochastic scheduling models, motivated by real-world application areas;
the analysis of computational complexity of the corresponding scheduling
problems; and the development of efficient optimisation algorithms
capable of solving problems arising, in considered areas of application.

*Skills:*Applicants should have completed (or be close to completion of)
a Master's degree in Operations Research, Computer Science, Mathematics
or a comparable domain. Fluency in English is required. Moreover, the
candidate must be comfortable in programming (python, Java or C++).
Affinity with Industrial Engineering or Operations Management is a plus.

Science. Final proceedings papers must be camera-ready in this format. A
clearly marked Appendix, which will not count toward the 12 page

will be held this years from June 15 to June 22 at Faculty of
mathematical Sciences ,university of Tabriz , Tabriz .Iran .

Tabriz city is the second oldest city in Iran , So old that is origins are
shrouded in legend , and the city and its environs contain a number of
historic attractions and surrounded by colorful mountain . also , Tabriz
is in the north west of Iran and near the border of 3 countries( Turkey

******** Scope ********

Wireless Power Transfer (WPT) is the driving technology that will enable the next generation of the distributed sensor systems, including battery-less sensors, passive RFID, as well as IoT, 5G and M2M solutions. Distributed WPT-enabled devices can be powered by harvesting energy from the surroundings (for example electromagnetic energy), leading to a novel communication systems networks paradigm, the Wirelessly Powered Systems and Networks.

The WPSN workshop aims at providing an interdisciplinary reference forum focusing on the use of WPT as an enabler for improving the efficiency of current distributed communication systems and networks. Therefore, both tools and techniques to design (or improve) relevant distributed operations using WPT, as well as results from the analysis of data obtained through this enabler, are welcome in the workshop.

WPSN aims at engaging researchers working on
1. WPT-enabled networking protocols, algorithms and optimization
2. WPT-enabled communication methods, tools and techniques
3. Far-/near-field WPT technologies for networks and communications

WPSN 2019 will be co-located with DCOSS 2019 at Santorini Island, Greece. Benefits of presenting a paper in WPSN 2019:

The 32nd Conference of the European Chapter on Combinatorial Optimization
(ECCO XXXII) will run from Thursday 30th May to Saturday 1st June 2019. It
will be hosted at the Cavalieri Art Hotel, a four-star hotel overlooking the
picturesque St. Julian's Bay in Malta.

A number of parallel sessions for talks delivered by participants will be
held. A special issue of the "Journal of Combinatorial Optimization" (see

The IEEE INFOCOM 2019 conference is pleased to announce travel grants to
subsidize travel costs of students for attending the IEEE INFOCOM 2019
conference to be held in Paris, France, 29th April - 2nd May 2019. The
grant assignment decisions will be made according to the eligibility
criteria dictated by each type of grant. This year, IEEE INFOCOM 2019
will have the availability of three types of Student Travel Grants:

A.    Travel grants sponsored by the IEEE Communications Society (ComSoc).
B.    US National Science Foundation (NSF) travel grant opportunity for
US-based students only.
C.    Travel grants sponsored by the GDR Réseaux et Systèmes Distribués
