Call for Papers Artificial Intelligence systems are increasingly deployed in domains where predictive accuracy alone is insufficient—decisions must also be understandable, reliable, robust, and open to scrutiny. Many explainability and trustworthiness problems involve competing objectives, complex search spaces, discrete or structured representations, and constraints that traditional optimization methods struggle to address. Evolutionary computation is particularly well-suited to these challenges. Dear all, I would like to announce the availability of a new R package, HITSr, now hosted on GitHub. The package provides parallel OpenMP C++ calculation of the maximum score estimator (Manski, 1975) using the Hyperplanes Intersection Tabu Search algorithm (Florios et al., 2025). It is intended for users working with binary choice models, mainly in Econometrics, and for developers who may want to integrate these routines into larger computational workflows. Dear all, I would like to advertise a 3-year postdoctoral position in measurable combinatorics at Charles University in Prague, Czechia, starting in January 2027 (or later by agreement). The position is funded through the project LoGloS – Local and Global Structure in Measurable Combinatorics funded by the Czech Ministry of Education and Sports under the ERC CZ programme (1 September 2026 – 31 August 2031). The project lies at the interface of descriptive set theory, combinatorics, probability, dynamics, and theoretical computer science. Its aim is to develop a unified framework for studying structural, combinatorial, and algorithmic aspects of local problems on graphs, groups, and Euclidean spaces, in both discrete and continuous settings. Topics of particular interest include: countable Borel equivalence relations and combinatorics of Borel graphs, local algorithms, random processes, and measurable dynamics, distributed and randomized algorithms, continuous and discrete tilings, connections between descriptive combinatorics, probability, dynamics, and theoretical computer science. Dear colleagues, The call for submissions for the 2027 PacificVis Visual Data Storytelling Contest is now live. ~ ~ ~ ~ The 2027 Visual Data Storytelling Contest The Visual Data Storytelling contest celebrates its 11th year in 2027. This contest celebrates the emerging data communication genre, including data storytelling, narrative visualizations, explanatory notebooks, visual essays, and more. It aims to encourage students, researchers, and practitioners to demonstrate the value of data visualization by creating creative and compelling visual data stories. The contest will be held in conjunction with IEEE PacificVis 2027 from April 19-22, 2027 in Busan, South Korea. Storytellers are invited to submit visual data-driven stories that draw upon (or intersect with) any of these areas. In addition, entries that focus on computational journalism and artistic design projects are encouraged. Unlike contests such as the IEEE VAST challenge or the IEEE SciVis Contest, the data for the PacificVis visual data storytelling contest is intentionally left unspecified; you are free to choose any publicly available dataset(s). Similarly, the task that storytellers are to accomplish is to successfully communicate a message or series of messages (i.e., a narrative, a series of insights) using data visualization techniques. The story's themes can draw from any topic, including current affairs, history, natural disasters, and research findings from the sciences and humanities. Entries may be submitted by teams or individuals from industry and academia.
