[DMANET] Phd and postdoc position on Algorithmic Game Theory

We are pleased to announce the opening of 1 phd and 1 postdoc position on
the broader area of Algorithmic Game Theory at the Dept. of Informatics of
the Athens University of Economics and Business (www.cs.aueb.gr).

The positions are part of a new research project that is funded by the
Greek Foundation of Research and Innovation.

There is available funding for 3 years for the phd position and 2 years for
the postdoc position. Opportunities for extensions might be possible, based
upon satisfactory academic progress.

There is no fixed starting date, but preferably the candidates should start
anywhere between May and September 2020.

The main goal of the project is to address current algorithmic and
game-theoretic challenges in the design of procurement auctions. The
candidates are therefore expected to conduct research on topics that
concern the design of efficient mechanisms, analysis of approximation
algorithms, equilibrium analysis, and related aspects in game theory and
social choice theory. The project has a heavier weight on theoretical
research but empirical/experimental aspects can also (in fact are
encouraged to) be considered.

Desirable background of applicants:

Applicants for the phd position should have (or be bound to have by the
starting date) a Masters degree (or equivalent) in computer science,
mathematics, operations research or a related discipline. Applicants for
the postdoc position should have carried out their phd thesis on
algorithmic game theory, computational social choice, or a related topic.

We are particularly interested in applicants with a strong background on
algorithms and discrete mathematics, who have an interest in working on one
of the following areas:

* Algorithmic game theory and mechanism design

* Design and analysis of efficient algorithms

* Approximation and randomized algorithms

* Social choice theory

Candidates must also be comfortable with writing and speaking in English.

Interested applicants should send an email to Vangelis Markakis (
markakis@gmail.com) including the following:

- Their CV

- Contact details of at least 2 references

- For phd candidates: A cover letter, where they will specify their
preferred area(s) on which they would like to do their phd thesis.

- For postdoc candidates: A research statement explaining their research
interests (1-2 pages).

There is no deadline for applying, but the applications will be processed
as they come. We recommend to potential applicants to send their documents
by March 1, 2020.

For any further inquiries the applicants can send an email to
markakis@gmail.com.
