[DMANET] Open PhD Position: Organ Allocation at Eurotransplant
We are looking for a strong, motivated PhD-student with an analytical, algorithmic background who is interested in pursuing a PhD-project devoted to the allocation of donor organs to patients. The goal of the project is to apply and develop methods from data science (including machine learning methods) to quantify the benefits of transplantations depending on donor and recipient characteristics. In addition, the goal is to design and evaluate allocation mechanisms.
The project is a cooperation between Eindhoven University of Technology and Eurotransplant. The project has a large applied component; it is expected that results of this project will impact Eurotransplant's policies.
The position is for a period of 4 years at the Eindhoven University of Technology, Department of Mathematics and Computer Science. The PhD-student's working locations will be both at Eurotransplant headquarters in Leiden, as well as at TU/e.
We are looking for a student with a strong background in at least one of the following subjects: statistics, machine learning, discrete optimization, operations research. A strong interest in the medical and health policy aspects of the project are a plus.
The TU Eindhoven, the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science and the group Combinatorial Optimization
The TU Eindhoven (TU/e) was established in 1956 as a polytechnic. It has grown into a university with nine departments. The TU/e now has approximately 3000 employees (incl. PhD students) and 8000 BSc and MSc students. Our Department offers several bachelor and master programs, all of which are taught in English. The TU/e campus is in the center of Eindhoven. The PhD-position is within the group Combinatorial Optimization; this group is an active, internationally composed research group. There are strong ties with the research program NETWORKS.
Eurotransplant
Eurotransplant is responsible for the allocation of donor organs in Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Germany, Hungary, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and Slovenia. This international collaborative framework includes all transplant hospitals, tissue-typing laboratories and hospitals where organ donations take place. For more information, see www.eurotransplant.org<http://www.eurotransplant.org/>
What we offer
We offer a PhD position on an exciting topic at the intersection of data science and combinatorial optimization. The project will take place in a very stimulating environment, and the cooperation with Eurotransplant allows for real-life impact of the results. The position is fully funded, and the student receives a gross salary which ranges from € 2.325 per month in the first year increasing up to € 2.972 in the fourth year. The TU Eindhoven offers a broad package of fringe benefits (e.g. excellent technical infrastructure, child daycare and excellent sports facilities).
Being a PhD student in the Netherlands
In the Netherlands, every PhD student gets paid a salary; no additional grants are needed. Moreover, although PhD students sometimes take courses, there is no minimum requirement. Hence, PhD students are more like employees than like students. Indeed, the Dutch word for PhD student translates to "research trainee". The work of a PhD student may include assisting in courses of BSc or MSc programs of the department. This amounts to around 10% of the time; the remaining time is spent on research and research-related activities.
Further information
For more information about the project or about the working conditions, please contact Bart Smeulders (B.Smeulders@tue.nl<mailto:B.Smeulders@tue.nl>), or Frits Spieksma (F.C.R.Spieksma@tue.nl<mailto:F.C.R.Spieksma@tue.nl> ).
How to apply
You can apply to this position through the TU/e website (https://jobs.tue.nl/en/vacancy/phd-machine-learning-for-organ-allocation-at-eurotransplant-851205.html).

[DMANET] SI: Cybersecurity Management in the era of AI - Springer JONS
*Special issue on*
*Cybersecurity Management in the era of AI*
https://www.springer.com/journal/10922/updates/17974838
***Submissions due:* October 31st, 2020****
*We encourage early submission, please check the open submission schedule
policy below.*
Fifth Generation (5G) and beyond cellular networks have revolutionized the
communication architecture, providing connectivity for people, things,
data, applications, transport, and cities in smart networked environments,
at faster data rates, reduced latencies, and acceptable costs. The massive
number and volume of heterogonous connected devices in such an open space,
as well as the advancements in human computer interaction (HCI), artificial
intelligence (AI), computing and communication technologies have led to an
increasing number of personal and ubiquitous intelligent systems. Such a
wide deployment of connected smart technologies introduces new challenges
to system security and privacy, mainly for Cyber-physical Systems.
Cyberphysical is a term used for the integration of physical and computing
domains as seen in many different areas such as medical, automotive, energy
and other critical systems. Nowadays, cyberphysical systems are highly
prone to cyber attacks and other forms of security threats at the
communication layer due to system high connectivity characteristics. Some
of today's emerging security threats are hard to detect using traditional
security and privacy measures and techniques. Therefore, innovative
security methods and privacy protection solutions are needed to provide
more secure and robust privacy-preserving intelligent cyber-physical
systems. To achieve this, *cybersecurity management systems *need to adapt
to the changing cyber security threats autonomously with minimal user
intervention to provide maximum protection against cyber attacks,
intrusions, malware and various types of data breaches. AI has the
potential to be leveraged in different aspects of cybersecurity and
cyberthreat detection. It has received significant interest lately, where a
plethora of AI and other intelligent learning solutions such as deep and
reinforcement learning are now being integrated into cybersecurity systems
to provide more secure and robust privacy-preserving solutions for personal
and ubiquitous systems. Such integration will play a vital role in
providing enhanced security for intelligent autonomous systems and enables
organizations to make crucial changes to their security landscape.
This Special Issue invites theoretical and applied cutting edge research on
standards, frameworks, models, and approaches on cybersecurity management
in the era of AI and intelligent learning technologies. More specifically,
we encourage original paper submissions on the most recent advances in
security network and system management solutions using AI. The Special
Issue also welcomes contributions from the industry perspective. Topics of
interest include, but they are not limited to:
- Cybersecurity management in cyber-physical systems using AI;
- Security, privacy, and trust issues in cyber-physical systems;
- Blockchain-enabled cyber-physical systems;
- Utilizing AI technologies for cyber investigation and threat
intelligence;

IWOCA 2020 should have taken place in Bordeaux, France. Due to the
COVID-19 pandemic, the workshop will be held online, and the talks will
be live-streamed. All necessary technical details will be sent to the
participants after the free, but mandatory, registration.
This is an excellent opportunity for colleagues who usually cannot
attend conferences. Please feel free to distribute this call, for
example in the academic communities of developing countries.

Continuing an established tradition of IWOCA, there will be an open
problem session. There will be a separate call for open problems by the
open problem session chairs. A list of open problems from previous
editions of IWOCA is maintained at
https://nms.kcl.ac.uk/iwoca/problems_list.html. For any question related

RELATED EVENT: GRAPHMASTERS
===========================
GraphMasters is a satellite event that will take place on Thursday June
11, one day after IWOCA. It is an open workshop organized to foster
collaboration between researchers interested in graph algorithms and
problems. The spirit of the workshop is informal: (virtual) working
space is provided to the participants, who are welcome to group as they
like and seek each other's counsel and opinion. See
http://graphmasters.di.unipi.it/ for the previous editions. For any
question related to GraphMasters, please contact Alessio Conte (conte
[at] di.unipi.it).
