======================================================================================================================
The Modular Supercomputing and Quantum Computing Group in the Institute
of Computer Science of the Department of Computer Science and
Mathematics (Prof. Dr. Dr. Thomas Lippert) at Goethe University
Frankfurt is seeking to fill the position of a Postdoctoral Researcher
(E13 TV-G-U) initially limited for a period of three years. The
classification is based on the job characteristics of the collective
agreement applicable to Goethe-University (TV-G-U).
What we expect from you
=======================
You will independently research, analyze and develop in the field of the
use of quantum computers in practical applications. Of particular
interest are the design, porting, benchmarking, and practical use of
quantum algorithms, with a focus on those that use quantum
computers/quantum annealers together with HPC systems in a hybrid way.
You will participate in the development of a software environment for
interfacing quantum computing modules to modular HPC systems for use as
accelerator technology in hybrid fashion on the one hand, and for
genuine hybrid QC-HPC algorithms on the other. You are expected to
support the teaching of the Institute of Computer Science in the
Bachelor and Master programs as well as the publication and presentation
of research results. You will be a partner in the acquisition and
implementation of state, national and European funded third-party
projects in the corresponding field.
Your responsibilities will include research in the above areas, helping
to create access to quantum computers/quantum annealers for Frankfurt
scientists and cooperation partners from industry, e.g. on the quantum
infrastructure of Forschungszentrum Jülich, and being responsible for
managing the procurement of a quantum computer system for the GU. You
present your results in project meetings, at workshops and conferences
and publish in journals with a high impact factor. You guide PhD and
Master students in their scientific work and are active in teaching.
Your profile
=======================
You have completed a scientific university degree (Master or Dipl.
Univ.) in physics or computer science. A doctorate with excellent grades
is required. You have research experience and profound knowledge in
simulation on supercomputers and in computing with quantum computers and
quantum annealers. You are experienced in the design of efficient HPC
algorithms and are engaged in the creation and implementation of quantum
algorithms.
You should also have experience with research projects on a national,
European and possibly international level as well as experience in
working with IT and HPC companies. Expertise in programming languages
such as C/C++ and Python as well as experience in parallel programming,
e.g. with MPI, are required.
You have a strong ability to work cooperatively, to use your own
initiative and to carry out independent research and development. We
expect very good written and spoken English language skills as well as
the flexibility and willingness to travel on business such as project
meetings within Europe or to (international) conferences and workshops.
Please send your application with the usual documents (curriculum vitae,
certificates, list of publications) by e-mail until February 15, 2022
to: Prof. Dr. Dr. Thomas Lippert, Institute of Computer Science,
lippert@fias.uni-frankfurt.de.
