Here is the Introduction to this Talk:
To better mirror actual freight operations and the performance of yard and train processes, a simple mini-network model has been developed that replaces the certainty built into existing models with probabilities. This approach would allow a railroad service designer, marketing officer and railroad customer to get better information on the likely distribution of actual trip times. The model can also be used as a what-if tool. What if we have more than one daily departure for each block or we run shorter or longer trains? What if we move shipments directly to destination on one train or have them change trains, either classifying them enroute or swap shipments among trains?
Meet the Speaker!
Roger Baugher's forty-five-year career includes stints at four North American freight railroads and numerous consulting assignments. He received an MS under Dr. William Hay at University of Illinois and earned an MBA from Northwestern. Lately, he has focused on modeling of yard operations.
