[DMANET] Funded positions for doctoral research in Algorithmic Game Theory at Teesside University, UK

Opportunities to undertake a fully funded PhD program in Algorithmic
Game Theory are available at Teesside University, UK.

A first route is via a graduate tutor position. This role allows to
study for a PhD program over 4 years, whilst also gaining the
opportunity to acquire regular and structured experience through a
light contribution to the teaching activities of the School of
Computing. The salary is higher than a normal PhD studentship (and
additionally all fees are paid).

We now accept applications to this role; deadline is July 31, 2016.

More details, including application procedure, can be found at
https://recruitment.tees.ac.uk/itrentlive_webrecruitment/wrd/run/etrec107gf.open?VACANCY_ID=5166081sUE&WVID=3395700LFi&LANG=USA.

Moreover, we anticipate the possibility of having a fully-funded PhD
studentship (without teaching commitments) at a later stage
(presumably after the summer).

Prospective candidates for either role must have (or expect to have)
at least a good honours degree Computer Science, Mathematics or
Economics at grade 2:1 (or equivalent) or higher. The role requires
good background knowledge in Theoretical Computer Science, discrete
mathematics related to computer science and algorithm design.
Background knowledge in Microeconomics or Algorithmic Game Theory is
also desirable.

Prospective applicants are welcome to contact myself for informal
enquiries (about the roles and/or the application procedure).

Finally, with similar modalities, we do have other projects in the
general area of game theory; namely, "Evolutionary Mechanism Design"
and "Emergence of Co-operative Behaviour and AI Cognition". Do have a
look at http://www.tees.ac.uk/sections/research/projects2.cfm and feel
free to contact me for further info on those projects as well.

[DMANET] CfP: Special Issue in Journal of Heuristics on Metaheuristics for Combinatorial Optimization (extended deadline: July 31st, 2016)

===============================================================
Special Issue in Journal of Heuristics
on Metaheuristics for Combinatorial Optimization
(extended deadline: July 31st, 2016)

http://www.franciscochicano.es/joh-metacop
===============================================================

** DESCRIPTION

Combinatorial Optimization Problems consist in finding an optimal
solution (according to some objective function) from a finite search
space. These problems arise in Industry and Academia and, unfortunately,
most of them cannot be solved efficiently, that is, they are NP-hard and
no polynomial time algorithm is known to solve them. For this reason, in
the last decades researches have investigated the use of approximated
algorithms to find near optimal solutions to these problems. In
particular, a great research effort has been devoted to the development
of metaheuristic algorithms to solve combinatorial optimization
problems, like Evolutionary Algorithms, Ant Colony Optimization,
Particle Swarm Optimization, Iterated Local Search, Variable
neighbourhood Search, Hybrid Metaheuristics, etc.

Successfully solved problems include scheduling, timetabling, network
design, transportation and distribution problems, vehicle routing,
traveling salesman, graph problems, satisfiability, energy optimization
problems, packing problems and planning problems.

Prominent examples of metaheuristics include evolutionary algorithms,
simulated annealing, tabu search, scatter search, memetic algorithms,
ant colony optimization, particle swarm optimization, variable
neighbourhood search, iterated local search, greedy randomized adaptive
search procedures, estimation of distribution algorithms,
hyperheuristics and hybrid algorithms.

We encourage authors to submit original high-quality research on the
application of metaheuristic algorithms to combinatorial optimization
problems.

Call for Papers

Middle-European Conference on Applied Theoretical Computer Science
(MATCOS-16)

Koper, Slovenia, October 12th and 13th, 2016.
http://matcos.iam.upr.si

Held in conjunction with the 19th Multi-Conference on Information
Society, October 10-14, 2016, Ljubljana, Slovenia. (http://is.ijs.si)

Scope and Topics
----------------
During the past years, other fields have used several subjects,
methods and approaches of Theoretical Computer Science, and several
results have been integrated into practical applications. Solutions
for NP-hard problems, algorithmic-oriented AI and data mining
procedures, new models and methods in system biology and
bioinformatics, automata theory approaches in software and hardware
verification, prospective new models of computation and future
computer architecture are good examples to buttress the above
statement.

We set double aims as the scope of this conference: on one hand side
we expect ideas and solutions from the field of Theoretical Computer
Science which have been directly applied in real world
applications. On the other side we want to collect theoretical results
based on some fruitful idea that may be useful to adopt for practical
problems.

Suggested, but not exclusive, topics of interest include:
- Automata and formal languages, computability,
- Algorithms and data structures,
- Computational complexity,
- Artificial intelligence, machine learning,
- Optimization, approximation methods, NP-hard problems,
- Graph theory,
- Computational geometry.

There is a special emphasis on use in applications such as simulation,
