We are editing a new CRC and Taylor Book entitled *"Innovative Educational

Case Studies". *The Book will be indexed by Scopus and ISI.

A postdoctoral position in the area of efficient algorithms is
available in the research group of Prof. Susanne Albers, Department
of Computer Science, Technical University of Munich (TU Munich).

A research interest in approximation and online algorithms,

SCOPE

Approximation and online algorithms are fundamental tools to deal with
computationally hard problems and problems in which the input is gradually
disclosed over time. Both kinds of problems arise from a large number of
applications in a variety of fields. The Workshop on Approximation and
Online Algorithms (WAOA) focuses on the design and analysis of
approximation and online algorithms. It also covers experimental methods
used to design and analyze efficient approximation and online algorithms.

WAOA 2024 is co-located with ALGO 2024, which also hosts ESA, ALGOCLOUD,
ALGOWIN, ATMOS, IPEC, and WABI. ALGO 2024 will take place at Royal
Holloway, University of London in Egham, United Kingdom.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

Authors are invited to submit an extended abstract or full paper of at most
10 pages excluding the title page, references, and an optional appendix.
The submission should be typeset using a 10-point or larger font in a
single-column format with ample spacing throughout and 2cm margins all
around on A4-size paper. Proofs omitted due to space constraints must be
placed in an appendix. This appendix can even comprise an entire full
version of the paper. The appendix will be read by the program committee
members at their discretion. In particular, appendices of accepted papers
are not going to be published in the proceedings. The main part of the
submission should therefore contain a clear technical presentation of the
merits of the paper, including a discussion of the paper's importance
within the context of prior work and a description of the key technical and
conceptual ideas used to achieve its main claims.

By submitting a paper the authors acknowledge that in case of acceptance at
least one of the authors must register at ALGO 2024, attend the conference
onsite and present the paper. The program committee may award a Best Paper
Award to one of the accepted papers.

The conference will employ a lightweight double-blind reviewing process.
Submissions should not reveal the identity of the authors in any way. In
particular, authors' names, affiliations, and email addresses should not
appear at the beginning or in the body of the submission. Authors should
ensure that any references to their own related work is in the third person
(e.g., not "We build on our previous work …" but rather "We build on the
work of …"). The purpose of the double-blind reviewing is to help PC
members and external reviewers come to an initial judgement about the paper
without bias, not to make it impossible for them to discover the authors if
they were to try. Nothing should be done in the name of anonymity that
weakens the submission or makes the job of reviewing the paper more
difficult. In particular, important references should not be omitted or
anonymized. In addition, authors should feel free to disseminate their
ideas or draft versions of their paper as they normally would. For example,
authors may post drafts of their papers on the web, submit them to arXiv,
and give talks on their research ideas.

When submitting a paper, authors will be asked to indicate Conflict of
Interest (CoI) with PC members. A CoI is limited to the following
categories:

- Family member or close friend.
- Ph.D. advisor or advisee (no time limit), or postdoc or undergraduate
mentor or mentee within the past 5 years.
- Person with the same affiliation.
- Involved in an alleged incident of harassment. (It is not required that
the incident be reported.)
- PC member owes author a favor (e.g., recently requested a reference
letter).
- Frequent or recent collaborator (within last 5 years) who you believe
cannot objectively review your work.

Submissions authored or co-authored by members of the program committee are
allowed, but will be subject to a stricter review process.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join as a PhD Fellow at Oslo Metropolitan University, Norway. This fully funded position focuses on Quantum-Inspired Evolutionary Algorithms. Area of research
The primary objective of this project is to formulate and implement a multi-objective quantum-inspired EAs (QEA) tailored specifically for classical computers, with a focus on addressing the prevalent challenges in the domain of multi-objective integrative optimization (MIO) problems. Real-world optimization problems, prevalent in industries, are often complex, involving different interrelated optimization problems with multiple interconnected and conflicting objectives. Most of these involved independent optimization problems are interrelated, and combining them into a global integrative optimization problem is therefore necessary. This proposal considers formulating an MIO problem by combining k optimization problems, resulting in k objective functions. As a result, instead of seeking a single solution, the approach is to provide a set of alternatives (Pareto-optimal front) that reflect the trade-off between the objectives resulting from the MIO, allowing decision-makers to choose based on their preferences. This practical approach is expected to significantly enhance the decision-making process in industries.

The MIO problems inherently fall within the NP-hard class, and traditional optimization methods often cannot handle the complexity of such real-world MIO problems, resulting in suboptimal solutions and long computational times. Evolutionary Algorithms (EAs), inspired by natural selection processes, have demonstrated effectiveness in handling NP-hard problems due to their stochastic nature, population-based exploration, and global search capabilities. However, issues like premature/slow convergence and imbalanced exploration-exploitation trade-offs limit their performance.

Recently, the emergence of quantum-inspired EAs (QEAs) has opened up new avenues for enhancing the effectiveness of EAs by striking a better balance between exploration and exploitation. Drawing inspiration from quantum mechanics, QEAs integrate concepts such as superposition, quantum parallelism, entanglement, interference, coherence, and measurement into the existing EA framework. Recent advancements have underscored the significant advantages of QEAs over classical EAs, demonstrating success in solving complex NP-hard problems that were previously deemed computationally intractable for classical computers. However, existing QEAs are typically designed for single optimization problems and exhibit optimal efficiency on specialized quantum hardware rather than classical computers. They also encounter challenges in maintaining coherence and leveraging entanglement for efficient exploration, necessitating further exploration of quantum operators and encoding schemes that can adapt to diverse problem structures and objective functions.

This project aims to bridge this gap by developing a novel multi-objective QEA that is specifically designed for classical computing environments. By utilizing quantum-inspired techniques, the objective is to provide industries with a practical and efficient solution for tackling real-world complex multi-objective optimization challenges in areas such as manufacturing and logistics. This research goal encompasses both theoretical and practical dimensions, focusing on contributing significantly to developing multi-objective QEA. Ultimately, the goal is not just to advance optimization methodologies but to facilitate broader access to cutting-edge problem-solving techniques in academic and industrial settings, thereby revolutionizing the way we approach and solve complex optimization problems.

AIMS AND SCOPE
WEPA is an international forum for researchers in the area of design,

Theme and Scope

Modern devices and technologies can represent a digital barrier for
users with disabilities, but they can be exploited to become enabling
tools for them. Accessibility of devices and technologies is a critical
topic to allow inclusion of all users, especially due to the European
laws that impose accessibility for new products and the definition of an
updated version of WCAG (Web Accessibility Guidelines). This track
invites scientists, engineers, and decision-makers from government,
industry, and academia to present technical papers on their research and
development results in areas of accessibility.

This track can interest many researchers since it would give the chance
to face a wide range of topics, i.e., web or mobile technologies, with
different points of view, taking into account specific technological
constraints and digital barriers. It is well-known that the so-called
"curb cut effect" can be applied to any technological and digital
context (in terms of devices, content, and services): technologies that
were originally meant to benefit people with disabilities can help any
other users. Moreover, the history and the evolution of several
technologies have been influenced and/or motivated by the special needs
of people with disabilities.


We welcome submission on a wide range of topics, including but not
limited to:

Accessible devices/assistive technologies: assistive technologies
refer to all the assistive, adaptive, and rehabilitative devices for
people with disabilities that enable users to perform tasks they
were formerly unable to accomplish. On the one hand, the widespread
diffusion of new devices and technologies stimulates researchers to
find and apply new solutions to make them accessible to anyone. On
the other hand, experiences in accessibility-related fields have
been exploited and have provided benefits to users equipped with
non-conventional devices when they emerged in the market.

Accessible solutions for e-learning, e-commerce, e-banking, etc:
e-services and content often require specific technologies, being
bounded by specific constraints when accessed by people with
disabilities equipped with assistive technologies. Specific
interaction modalities may affect interactive service access, while
richness and quantity of content may affect the users' ability to
process information.

Accessible content: e-books, accessible TV, accessible broadcasting,
etc.

*

Accessibility of games.

*

AI for Accessibility: AI can be exploited both for personalization
(i.e., integrating AI-based personalization to support specific and
special needs) and "enabler" (i.e., exploiting LLM to support the
creation of accessible applications).


Submission Guidelines

We would like to invite authors to submit papers on research on the
Accessibility area, with particular emphasis on assessing the current
state of the art and identifying future directions. Original papers
addressing any of the listed topics of interest (or related topics) will
be considered. Each submitted paper will be fully refereed and undergo a
double-blind review process by at least three referees. Accepted papers
will be included in the ACM SAC 2025 proceedings and published in the
ACM digital library, being indexed by Thomson ISI Web of Knowledge and
Scopus.

The track accepts full papers (max 8 pages), posters (max 2 pages), and
SRC abstracts (max 2 pages). Submissions should be properly anonymized
to facilitate blind reviewing. Papers that will receive high reviews
(that is acceptable by reviewer standard) but will not be accepted due
to space limitations can be invited for poster session. Authors of
accepted papers must be prepared to sign a copyright statement and must
pay the registration fee and guarantee that their paper will be
presented at the conference. No-show of scheduled papers will result in
excluding the papers from the ACM Digital Library.

[DMANET] IPEC 2024: Final Call for Papers

The International Symposium on Parameterized and Exact Computation
(IPEC) is an annual conference covering all aspects of parameterized and
exact algorithms and complexity. Its 19th edition will be part of ALGO
2024, which also hosts ESA 2024 and other specialized conferences and
workshops.

IPEC 2024 invites papers presenting original research in the area of
parameterized and exact algorithms and complexity. Topics include but
are not limited to the following:
- new techniques for the design and analysis of parameterized and exact
algorithms;
- fixed-parameter tractability and kernelization results;
- parameterized complexity theory;
- parameterized (in)approximability results;
- relationships between parameterized complexity and traditional
complexity classifications;
- applications of parameterized and exact computation;
- engineering and experimentation of exact, parameterized, and
kernelization algorithms.

We plan to have an invited talk by (one of) the 2024 EATCS-IPEC Nerode
Prize winner(s),
and a tutorial on first-order model checking given by Szymon Toruńczyk.
In addition, IPEC also hosts the presentation of the results from PACE
2024 (the Parameterized Algorithms and Computational
Experiments Challenge). This year, the focus of PACE is the one-sided

SCOPE
======

DPM is an annual international workshop covering research in data
privacy management. Organizations are increasingly concerned
about the privacy of information that they manage (as witnessed,
for example, by lawsuits filed against organizations for
violating the privacy of customer's data). Thus, the management
of privacy-sensitive information is very critical and important
for every organization.

This poses several challenging problems, such as how to translate the
high-level business goals into system-level privacy policies,
administration of privacy-sensitive data, privacy preserving data
integration and engineering, privacy preserving access control
mechanisms, information-oriented security, and query execution on
privacy-sensitive data for partial answers. Starting from these
observations, the aim of DPM is to discuss and exchange ideas related
to data privacy management. We invite papers from researchers and
practitioners working in privacy, security, trustworthy data systems
and related areas to submit their original papers in this workshop.
Submissions by PhD students as well as controversial ideas are
encouraged. Case studies (successful or not) are also encouraged.

PAPER SUBMISSIONS

Submitted papers must not substantially overlap papers that have been
published or that are simultaneously submitted to a journal or a
conference with proceedings. Papers can be submitted as Full Papers or
Short Papers. Full papers should be at most 16 pages in the LNCS
format, including the bibliography and well-marked appendices. Short
papers should be at most 8 pages in the LNCS format, including the
bibliography and well-marked appendices. Program Committee members are
not required to read the appendices, so papers should be intelligible
without them.

Authors should indicate whether their paper is a short paper to
differentiate them from full papers. All submissions must be written
in English. It is planned to have accepted papers published by
Springer in the Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) series, the
LNCS template can be found at

The SSDBM international conference brings together scientific domain experts, database researchers, practitioners, and developers for the presentation and exchange of current research results on concepts, tools, and techniques for scientific and statistical database applications. The 36th SSDBM will provide a forum for original research contributions and practical system design, implementation and evaluation. The conference program typically consists of a single track to facilitate discussion, and contains presentations of invited talks, panel sessions, and demonstrations of research prototypes and industrial systems.

SSDBM 2024 will be held in Rennes, France, from July 10th to 12th. SSDBM 2024 will continue the tradition of past SSDBM meetings in providing a stimulating environment to encourage discussion, fellowship and exchange of ideas in all aspects of research related to scientific and statistical data management, and high-performance data analysis tools and techniques for distributed datasets. Research Posters

There will be a poster session where participants will have the opportunity to present their ongoing research with new problems/solutions; and receive feedback from the community. Accepted posters will also be given a short presentation slot in the conference. Posters will be subject to a very light scope and presentation check. The number of accepted posters is limited by the poster space available.

Poster submissions consist of:
- An extended abstract (extended abstracts should not exceed 2 pages and should be formatted using the ACM format available at https://www.acm.org/publications/proceedings-template <https://www.acm.org/publications/proceedings-template> by selecting the generic "sigconf" sample.). Authors must include their names and affiliations on the first page.
- A draft of the proposed poster (organized as one A0-size sheet, in vertical (preferred) or horizontal layout).

Extended abstracts will be published on the SSDBM 2024 website at the time of the conference. Research Posters (extended abstracts) will not be included in the proceedings.

At least one author of each accepted poster must register and plan to attend the conference in-person (student rate applies for student posters). Each author registration can be applied to only one accepted submission.

Overview

------------------------

In the last decade, the increasing amount of data produced in the financial sector has focused the attention of scholars and practitioners on their application, using Big Data Analytics techniques and Artificial Intelligence (AI) models to address interesting economic questions. These analyses are increasingly used in the finance sector to deal with, but are not limited to, the following issues: (i) the actual economic problem involves lots of variables; (ii) the impact of the variables is highly nonlinear or involves interaction terms among the variables (high dimensionality of function class); and (iii) forecasting is economically more important than statistical inference.

To address several open research issues regarding the analysis of the financial domain, this track aims at soliciting contributions highlighting challenges, state-of-the-art, and solutions to a set of currently unresolved key questions to model complex interactions and relations, and their dynamics and impact on big financial data analytics and complex financial behaviors across financial markets, regulation, and risk management.

Each paper will be double-blindly reviewed by at least three reviewers; this is an ACM requirement as SAC is a "Refereed Conference". The exponential growth of data generated from various textual sources presents both a challenge and a huge opportunity. A key challenge lies in effectively managing and extracting valuable insights from this vast amount of unstructured and heterogeneous data. To address this issue, advanced data analytics techniques, ranging from data and text mining to semantic network analysis and recent advancements in large language models (LLMs), have become indispensable tools for researchers and practitioners.

This is particularly relevant in the realm of biomedicine, where text mining has shown the ability to enable researchers to uncover hidden patterns, trends, and associations that would otherwise remain buried in the vast amount of health-related textual data, for instance, research articles, clinical reports, and electronic health records (EHRs).

On the other hand, semantic network analysis, which focuses on understanding the structure and dynamics of networks formed by entities and their interconnections derived from text mining processes, can facilitate a deeper understanding of the complex interrelationships within biomedical data. By analyzing properties like centrality, modularity, and community structures, researchers can identify key nodes and critical pathways in biological networks, predict disease associations, and explore the functional organization of biological systems.

The integration of text mining, semantic network analysis, and large language models offers a powerful approach not only to enhance the ability to generate new hypotheses and insights but also to support the development of more effective diagnostics, treatments, and interventions.

The workshop represents an opportunity to explore the latest advancements in data analytics and text mining in biomedicine. Attendees will gain insights into developing more interpretable models, handling large-scale biomedical datasets, and implementing scalable solutions for real-world healthcare applications.

Moreover, the workshop is highly relevant because it has the potential to significantly improve the safety, effectiveness, and efficiency of biomedical interventions through advanced data analytics.

The ICLP & LPNMR Doctoral Consortium (DC) will take place during the 40th International Conference on Logic Programming (ICLP 2024) and the 17th International Conference on Logic Programming and Non-monotonic Reasoning (LPNMR 2024) in Dallas, Texas, US, on October 13, 2024. The DC will provide students and early career researchers with the opportunity to present and discuss their research directions, obtain feedback from both peers and experts in the field, and participate in mentoring sessions on how to prepare for a research career.

Target Audience
The DC is designed for students currently enrolled in a Ph.D. program, though we are also open to exceptions (e.g., students currently in a Master's program and interested in doctoral studies). Students at any stage in their doctoral studies are encouraged to apply for participation in the DC. Applicants are expected to conduct research in areas related to logic and constraint programming; topics of interest include (but are not limited to):

LP Foundations, LP Languages, Declarative Programming, LP Implementation, Related Paradigms and Synergies (e.g., Neuro-symbolic AI and Logic Programming), LP Applications.

AIMS AND SCOPE

Datalog 2.0 is a workshop for Datalog researchers, implementors, and users. Its aim is to bring together researchers and practitioners interested in different aspects of Datalog to share research experiences, promote collaboration and identify directions for joint future research.

The 5th International Workshop on the Resurgence of Datalog in Academia and Industry (Datalog 2.0 2024) will be held in Dallas, Texas, USA October 11-14, 2024. Datalog 2.0 is a workshop of the 17th International Conference on Logic Programming and Non-monotonic Reasoning (LPNMR 2024).

The first edition of Datalog 2.0 was held in Oxford, UK, in 2010, and it was by invitation only. Since Datalog has resurrected as a lively topic with applications in many different areas of computer science, as well as industry, the second, third, and fourth edition of the workshop, which were held in Vienna in 2012, Philadelphia in 2019, and Genova in 2022, respectively, were open for submissions.

Authors are invited to submit papers presenting original and unpublished research on the foundational aspects of Datalog, as well as on its applications in other areas of computer science and in industry. Potential areas of application of Datalog may include (among others):

data management, data mining, knowledge representation and reasoning, cloud computing, distributed computing, logic programming, privacy and security, probabilistic reasoning, program analysis, programming languages, semantic web, social networks, streaming, verification, web services.

Datalog 2.0 2024 welcomes two types of submissions

* Long papers of up to 12 pages, presenting original research
* Short papers of up to 5 pages that may contain either original ongoing research
or recently published results

The indicated number of pages includes title page and references. All submissions will be peer-reviewed. [DMANET] Deadline approaching: Doctoral position for 3.5 years at the Hamburg University of Technology

The research group for theoretical computer science at the Hamburg University of Technology is inviting applications for one full-time PhD position to do research in the field of homomorphism problems and connections to quantum computing. The project offers a variety of questions in many different fields of mathematics and computer science such universal algebra, linear algebra, or computational complexity.

The position is a full-time position on the echelon E13 of the German public salary scale (100% TV-L E13, which amounts to about 2600 euros net per month depending on family situation) for a duration of 3.5 years. The successful candidate is expected to start as soon as possible.

The successful applicant holds or is about to finish a Master's degree in computer science (with a theoretical focus) or mathematics. They are motivated by academic research and have a broad background in computer science or mathematics. As opposed to Narrow AI, which is characterized by task-specific skills, Broad AI seeks to address a wide array of problems, rather than being limited to a single task or domain. To develop its foundations, BILAI employs a Bilateral AI approach, effectively combining sub-symbolic AI (neural networks and machine learning) with symbolic AI (logic, knowledge representation, and reasoning) in various ways.

Harnessing the full potential of both symbolic and sub-symbolic approaches can open new avenues for AI, enhancing its ability to solve novel problems, adapt to diverse environments, improve reasoning skills, and increase efficiency in computation and data use. These key features enable a broad range of applications for Broad AI, from drug development and medicine to planning and scheduling, autonomous traffic management, and recommendation systems.

Prioritizing fairness, transparency, and explainability, the development of Broad AI is crucial for addressing ethical concerns and ensuring a positive impact on society.

The research team is committed to cross-disciplinary work in order to provide theory and models for future AI and deployment to applications.
