The Research Center for Operations Management at KU Leuven (Belgium) is offering a position for a full-time PhD student or postdoctoral researcher. The position is associated with the FWO research project "Optimization and Analytics for Stochastic and Robust Project Scheduling", which involves the design, theoretical analysis, and practical implementation of optimization methods for project scheduling and similar large-scale planning problems under uncertainty.
We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with a strong background in mathematics, computer science, operations research, or a related field. Knowledge in combinatorial optimization (network and scheduling algorithms, mathematical programming, ...) and programming skills are an asset.
KU Leuven is the largest university of Belgium and ranked among the top 50 universities in the world. Leuven is a beautiful and liveable city with a large and international student population in the heart of Europe, only a 20min train-ride from Brussels. Our faculty is located in the historic city center, just a 5min walk from the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Groot Begijnhof".
We offer an employment as full-time doctoral scholar for initially one year, renewable for up to four years after positive evaluation, or a postdoctoral position for up to 3 years. Salary is competitive and funds for conference travels, participation in summer schools, and other activities are available. The tentative starting date is September 2021, but earlier or later dates are possible, depending on the availability of the candidate.

SCOPE
WABI is an international conference covering research in algorithmic work in bioinformatics, computational biology and systems biology. SCOPE
WABI is an international conference covering research in algorithmic work in bioinformatics, computational biology and systems biology. The emphasis is mainly on discrete algorithms and machine-learning methods that address important problems in molecular biology, that are founded on sound models, that are computationally efficient, and that provide evidence of their potential usefulness in practice, preferably by testing on appropriately chosen simulated or real datasets. The goal is to present recent research results, including significant work-in-progress, and to identify and explore directions of future research.

will take place in Porto, Portugal on August 16-20, 2021.

The purpose of this conference is to bring together members of the academic,
research, and industrial community who have an interest in formal languages,

The 25th International Conference on Developments in Language Theory (DLT 2021)
will take place in Porto, Portugal on August 16-20, 2021.
DLT is International Conference Series under the auspices of the European Association for Theoretical Computer Science (EATCS <http://eatcs.org/>).
The purpose of this conference is to bring together members of the academic,
research, and industrial community who have an interest in formal languages,

Title: Fine-Grained Complexity of Optimization Problems
Abstract: Fine-grained complexity theory is the area of theoretical computer
science that proves conditional lower bounds based on conjectures such
as the Strong Exponential Time Hypothesis. This enables the design of
"best-possible" algorithms, where the running time of the algorithm
matches a conditional lower bound.
This talk surveys the developments of fine-grained complexity on classic
optimization problems such as Subset Sum. In particular, since recently
we know a best-possible algorithm for solving Subset Sum in
pseudopolynomial time. We survey this result and the subsequent
developments on approximation algorithms, output sensitive algorithms,
and pseudopolynomial algorithms under different parameters. We also
discuss extensions to other optimization problems such as Knapsack and
Partition, scheduling, and integer linear programming.

International Kidney Exchange: How to Ensure Stability?
The PhD-studentship provides full tuition fees and a maintenance grant for 42 months (15,609 pound for 2021/2022) both for UK students and international students.
Deadline for applications: 10 May 2021 but the review of applications may close earlier if the PhD studentship is filled.
Starting date: 1 October 2021.
Project summary: A kidney patient may have a willing donor, but a kidney transplant might not be possible due to blood- or tissue-type incompatibilities. However, patients and donors may be swapped after all patient-donor pairs are pooled together and one seeks to do this optimally (via a solution of a graph decomposition problem). We consider the situation where pools from multiple countries are merged. To keep an international kidney exchange program (KEP) stable, it is crucial that any proposed solutions will be accepted by all participating countries. The goal of this project is to research and improve stability of international KEPs using classical fairness concepts from Cooperative Game Theory. As such, the project has both a theoretical and experimental component.
The project involves a collaboration with the Mechanism Design Group, led by Dr Péter Biró, of The Centre for Economic and Regional Studies in Budapest (https://mechanismdesign.eu/).

The Lane Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering in the Benjamin M. Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources at West Virginia University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow in the general area of Theoretical Computer Science. This position supports research initiatives related to the design and analysis of parameterized and approximation algorithms and computational complexity. The period of this appointment is for one year and the anticipated start date is August 15, 2021. However, earlier start dates can be accommodated.
Applicants must have a PhD in theoretical computer science, operations research or mathematics, with a background in parameterized algorithm design and parameterized complexity. Two years of experience with approximation algorithms, computational complexity and operations research is also required as is a record of research publications in scientific journals. All applicants must be capable of completing the assigned tasks within the United States.

I am very interested in continuous optimization, discrete optimization and also applied linear algebra. The major focus of my PhD research was on designing (efficient) optimization algorithms for some variants of (linear)/nonlinear constrained/unconstrained optimization problems; Please see my publications for more details.
I am currently more interested in developing new algorithmic techniques and solution methods for large scale optimization problems (Especially those arising from machine learning based projects), building on known techniques (Such as sparse representation techniques for image and signal processing and for large scale ML problems). I am also familiar with discrete optimization and very interested in this field. Besides my major abilities, i have also experience to work on interdisciplinary topics related to optimization.

My major and abilities:
I am very interested in continuous optimization, discrete optimization and also applied linear algebra. The major focus of my PhD research was on designing (efficient) optimization algorithms for some variants of (linear)/nonlinear constrained/unconstrained optimization problems; Please see my publications for more details.
I am currently more interested in developing new algorithmic techniques and solution methods for large scale optimization problems (Especially those arising from machine learning based projects), building on known techniques (Such as sparse representation techniques for image and signal processing and for large scale ML problems). I am also familiar with discrete optimization and very interested in this field. Besides my major abilities, i have also experience to work on interdisciplinary topics related to optimization.

FroCoS and TABLEAUX are two of the main conferences on the theory and
application of logical systems. Their 2021 editions will be hosted by the
University of Birmingham, UK, from 6 to 10 September 2021. In keeping with
the tradition of the two events, we invite proposals for colocated workshops
and tutorials on all topics related to logical reasoning: from theoretical
aspects, to applications, to tools for interactive or automated reasoning.
Workshops and tutorials can target the logical systems community in general,
or alternatively focus on a particular system, recent theoretical
development or application.
TABLEAUX 2021 and FroCoS 2021 are intended to be hybrid conferences
welcoming both physical and virtual participation. The organisers are
closely monitoring the pandemic situation and may choose to make the
conference virtual-only if it seems unreasonable to host any sort of
physical event. A final decision will be taken before 14 June (12 weeks
before the conference) to leave ample time for potential travel plans to be
made.
If in-person participation is possible, colocated events should take place
on 6 and 8 September 2021. Workshop/tutorial-only attendees will enjoy a
significantly reduced registration fee. Detailed matters such as the paper
submission and review process, or the publication of proceedings, are up to
the organisers of individual events. All accepted workshops and tutorials
will be expected to have their program ready by *10 August 2021*.

Best paper award
The best WCO21 paper will be awarded during the social dinner of
FedCSIS2020.
The best paper will be selected by WCO21 co-Chairs by taking into
consideration the scores suggested by the reviewers, as well as the quality
of the given oral presentation.

* Authors should submit draft papers in PDF format.
* The total length of a paper should not exceed 10 pages for regular paper
and 4 pages for short papers (IEEE style). IEEE style templates are

The research concern the design and implementation of optimization
algorithms for a production planning and scheduling problem of the

The candidate will work in a very dynamic environment in a mixed group
including professors of the Department, personnel of the Company and
consultants from a top international consultancy agency working at a
SAP/MES implementation in the Company.
The resulting algorithm must be tested for daily planning of the company.
The working site is Reggio Emilia (Italy) and Viano (RE). Constant
presence in the company facilities is mandatory.
We require knowledge in optimization and operations research, very good
programming skills, knowledge of software engineering, a master degree
in engineering, information science, mathematics, physics or statistics.
