Postdoc in Game Theory for Sustainable Short-Sea Shipping

Are you fascinated by the integration of game theoretical approaches to hard combinatorial problems?

Then grasp this opportunity for a deep dive in game theory with the additional challenges of combinatorial optimization. Not only will you be able to quench your thirst for knowledge, but you will also help the green transition by identifying new pricing schemes that will incentivize cargo to be shipped by vessels rather than trucks.

The postdoc position is anchored in the RORO-GT project (Game Theory to achieve Sustainable RoRo Shipping through Competition). The project aims to develop new optimization models and solution methods that will examine how optimized service pricing, integrated with other service-based decisions (such as service design or network design), can help short-sea shipping companies make better decisions. To advocate the use of such approaches, several case studies will be conducted, and all cases will include both economic goals and environmental constraints. Furthermore, this project will explore solutions where customers' behavior is considered.

Responsibilities and qualifications
As a postdoc under the RORO-GT project you will play a key role in developing models utilizing game theory approaches and implementing solution methods to address complex challenges. You will be part of the Management Science division at DTU Management. The division includes eight faculty members in Operations Research, among which you will find internationally recognized experts in e.g. vehicle routing, maritime optimization, and transport optimization. You will also be part of a larger, internationally recognized maritime logistics community at the department. You will work under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Dario Pacino (maritime optimization expert) and Dr. Seyed Parsa Parvasi (game theory and maritime sustainability expert).

As applicant, you are expected to:

* have solid experience in developing mathematical models,
* be proficient in efficient programming languages such as C++, Java, C#, or Julia,
* be experienced in developing heuristics and metaheuristic approaches,
* have experience publishing in internationally recognized scientific journals.
We will look favorably on applicants that also:

* have experience with game theory, especially on pricing problems,
* have experience with decomposition frameworks such as Danzig-Wolfe and Benders decomposition,
* have experience in the use of machine learning and reinforcement learning,
* have experience within the maritime sector.
Note: Applicants that only hold programming competences in MATLAB will not be considered as qualified for the position.

As a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent).

The AAMAS 2024 Organizing Committee invites proposals for the Tutorial Program, to be held on May 6-7, 2024, immediately before the main conference.

Tutorials should serve one or more of the following objectives:

* Introduce novices to major topics of AAMAS research.
* Provide instruction in established practices and methodologies.
* Survey a mature area of AAMAS research or practice.
* Motivate and explain an AAMAS topic of emerging importance.
* Introduce expert non-specialists to an AAMAS area.
* Survey an area of agent research especially relevant for people from industry.
* Present a novel synthesis combining distinct lines of AAMAS work.
* Introduce AAMAS audiences to an external topic that can motivate, use, or be useful to AAMAS research.

Tutorials will be half-day long and will be in person - online/remote versions will not be accepted. A few full-day tutorials may be accepted, but the proponents need to motivate their request when submitting their proposal.

Tutorial proposals should be 2 to 4 pages in length, formatted using the AAMAS paper template, and should contain the following information:

* A short title of the tutorial.
* A brief description of the tutorial, suitable for inclusion in the conference registration brochure.
* A detailed outline of the tutorial, including preferred length (half or full day).
* Characterization of the potential target audience for the tutorial, including prerequisite knowledge.
* A description of why the tutorial topic would be of interest to a substantial part of the AAMAS audience.
* At this point the conference, including the tutorials, is planned as face-to-face.
* A brief resume of the presenter(s), which should include name, postal address, phone numbers, email address, background in the tutorial area, any available example of work in the area (ideally, a published tutorial-level article on the subject), evidence of teaching experience (including references that address the proposer's presentation skills as applicable), and evidence of scholarship in the area. Information about previous tutorials delivered by the presenters (if any).
* The name and e-mail address of the corresponding presenter. The corresponding presenter should be available for e-mail correspondence during the evaluation process, in the case clarifications and discussions on the scope and content of the proposal are needed.

The evaluation of the proposal will consider the level of general interest for AAMAS attendees, the quality of the proposal, the feasibility of running it in the proposed mode, the expertise and skills of the presenters, and recent tutorials on the same or related topics at AAMAS.

We emphasize that the primary criteria for evaluation will be whether a proposal is interesting, well-structured, and motivated, rather than the perceived experience/standing of the proposer.
The overall goal in the selection process is to compose a balanced program of excellent tutorials. Thus, even good proposals might be rejected. In the case of several closely related proposals the tutorial chairs might propose their authors to combine the proposals into a single tutorial.

== Responsibilities (with respect to accepted proposals) ==

AAMAS will be responsible for:

* Providing logistic support and a meeting place for tutorials.
* Together with the organizers, determining the tutorial date and time.
* Advertising the availability of the tutorial material to the AAMAS 2024 participants.

Tutorial organizers will be responsible for:

* Providing AAMAS with a link to a complete tutorial notes by March 1st 2024.
* Providing a website for the tutorial, which will include title and abstract of the tutorial, presenters' details, outline, tutorial notes and related reading material. The Tutorial co-chairs will ask the Tutorial organizers to follow some common format and style for their web sites, in order to make them as homogeneous as possible. More details will be provided upon acceptance.
* Presenting the tutorial at AAMAS 2024.

AAMAS reserves the right to cancel any tutorial if the above responsibilities are not fulfilled, if deadlines are missed, or if too few attendees register for the tutorial to support the costs of running the tutorial.

On March 7 and 8 the 14th edition of the Day of Computational Game
Theory (CGT day) takes place at the University of Bonn.

The CGT Day serves as a platform for researchers in algorithmic game
theory, social choice, and algorithmic mechanism design to connect.

We are very happy to announce our two amazing keynote speakers -- Michal
Feldman (Tel-Aviv University) and László A. Végh (LSE London).

Everyone is invited to submit a talk or a poster and we want to

Scope:

The IEEE Workshop on Parallel / Distributed Combinatorics and Optimization aims at providing a forum for scientific researchers and engineers on recent advances in the field of parallel or distributed combinatorics for difficult optimization problems, ranging from theoretical to applied problems. The latter include for instance 0-1 multidimensional knapsack problems and cutting stock problems, large scale linear programming problems, nonlinear optimization problems, global optimization, scheduling problems and planning problems.

Emphasis will be placed on new techniques for solving difficult optimization problems, like cooperative methods for integer programming problems, nature-inspired techniques and hybrid methods. Aspects related to Combinatorial Scientific Computing (CSC) will also be treated. We solicit submissions of original manuscripts on sparse matrix computations and related topics (including graph algorithms); and related methods and tools for their efficiency on different parallel systems. Applications combining parallel and distributed combinatorics and optimization techniques as well as theoretical issues (convergence study, complexity, etc.) are welcome.

AIM AND SCOPE

The International Series of Conferences on the Practice and Theory of
Automated Timetabling (PATAT) is held biennially as the main
international forum for both researchers and practitioners of
timetabling to exchange ideas. PATAT 2024 which is the fourteenth in the
conference series will be held in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Whether it is sporting events, educational institutions, transportation
or employee management the construction of efficient timetables which
provide the maximum in way of flexibility for all constituent parts,
including stakeholders, is as important as it is challenging. An
increasingly important aspect within organisations is an automated
approach which optimises all aspects of resource usage. In doing so a
number of quantitative and qualitative challenges must be dealt with
from both a technical and practical perspective.

An important aim of the conference is to align the needs of
practitioners and the objectives of researchers. This is achieved
through the presentation and application of leading edge research
techniques. Practitioners and Researchers alike are encouraged to
present their work and experiences with the overall goal of developing
efficient and practical solutions. With this goal in mind, at PATAT
2024, researchers and practitioners will be brought together through a

SUBMISSIONS

Authors are invited to submit their work in one of three categories:

1) Full papers: to describe significant, original and unpublished work,
(max 15 pages excluding Reference List and Appendix).

2) Abstracts: people who wish to give a talk but do not want to submit a
full paper (e.g., practitioners or researchers with preliminary or
incomplete work) can submit abstracts of up to 1000 words/4 pages.

3) Demonstration abstracts: to showcase innovations and contributions of
timetabling systems set in production by industrial researchers and
practitioners (up to 1000 words/4 pages).

All submissions will be peer reviewed by the members of the programme
committee. Accepted constributions will be invited for an oral
presentation at the event and included in the PATAT 2024 proceedings
after the event.

JOURNAL SPECIAL ISSUE

Authors of contributions of all three categories will be invited to

mathematical models and algorithms providing efficient solutions for
practical planning and scheduling issues in sustainable manufacturing

The AAMAS 2024 Organizing Committee invites proposals for the Tutorial Program, to be held on May 6-7, 2024, immediately before the main conference.

Tutorials should serve one or more of the following objectives:

* Introduce novices to major topics of AAMAS research.
* Provide instruction in established practices and methodologies.
* Survey a mature area of AAMAS research or practice.
* Motivate and explain an AAMAS topic of emerging importance.
* Introduce expert non-specialists to an AAMAS area.
* Survey an area of agent research especially relevant for people from industry.
* Present a novel synthesis combining distinct lines of AAMAS work.

Tutorial proposals should be 2 to 4 pages in length, formatted using the AAMAS paper template, and should contain the following information:

* A short title of the tutorial.
* A brief description of the tutorial, suitable for inclusion in the conference registration brochure.
* A detailed outline of the tutorial, including preferred length (half or full day).
* Characterization of the potential target audience for the tutorial, including prerequisite knowledge.
* A description of why the tutorial topic would be of interest to a substantial part of the AAMAS audience.
* At this point the conference, including the tutorials, is planned as face-to-face.
* A brief resume of the presenter(s), which should include name, postal address, phone numbers, email address, background in the tutorial area, any available example of work in the area (ideally, a published tutorial-level article on the subject), evidence of teaching experience (including references that address the proposer's presentation skills as applicable), and evidence of scholarship in the area. Information about previous tutorials delivered by the presenters (if any).
* The name and e-mail address of the corresponding presenter. The corresponding presenter should be available for e-mail correspondence during the evaluation process, in the case clarifications and discussions on the scope and content of the proposal are needed.

The evaluation of the proposal will consider the level of general interest for AAMAS attendees, the quality of the proposal, the feasibility of running it in the proposed mode, the expertise and skills of the presenters, and recent tutorials on the same or related topics at AAMAS.

We emphasize that the primary criteria for evaluation will be whether a proposal is interesting, well-structured, and motivated, rather than the perceived experience/standing of the proposer.
The overall goal in the selection process is to compose a balanced program of excellent tutorials. Thus, even good proposals might be rejected. In the case of several closely related proposals the tutorial chairs might propose their authors to combine the proposals into a single tutorial.

== Responsibilities (with respect to accepted proposals) ==

AAMAS will be responsible for:

* Providing logistic support and a meeting place for tutorials.
* Together with the organizers, determining the tutorial date and time.
* Advertising the availability of the tutorial material to the AAMAS 2024 participants.

Tutorial organizers will be responsible for:

* Providing AAMAS with a link to a complete tutorial notes by March 1st 2024.

Accepted workshops will have a two-page proceedings-format summary (generated by the workshop organizers) published in the Main Proceedings of the conference. Written contributions to the workshop itself (summaries, short papers, etc.) will be included in the supplement to the DSN Proceedings (DSN-W volume) and made available on IEEE Xplore. The workshop web pages will be linked through the main DSN website (www.dsn.org) and the call for papers will be advertised through the DSN mailing lists.

Organizers are expected to perform any additional advertising in related communities outside the main DSN community, to create and maintain the workshop website, arrange for the collection and refereeing of submissions, and to co-ordinate the collection and delivery of camera ready material and IEEE copyright transfers.

be published on IEEE Xplore®. Articles selected for publication in journals
