Berlin - ZIB) is a non-university research institute under public law of
the state of Berlin. In close interdisciplinary cooperation with the
Berlin universities as well as national and international scientific
institutions, ZIB conducts research and development in the field of
information technology, applied mathematics, and computer science.

PhD Student or PostDoc Position (f/m)

Within an interdisciplinary project on scientific questions related to
the development of innovative mathematical optimization algorithms for
the design of robust communications networks.
Research Topics
* Network planning with uncertain traffic matrices
* Network planning of multiple technological layers
and routing protocols
* Development of mathematical models for multi-layer networks
including survivability and robustness requirements
* Development of sophisticated optimzation algorithms
* Computation of networks with guaranteed solution quality
Requirements
* a university degree in mathematics, computer science or
communications engineering with excellent knowledge in
applied mathematics
* interest in application oriented research & development
* a strong interest in integer programming and polyhedreal theory
* excellent programming skills in C/C++ or Java under Microsoft
Windows or Linux
* experience in the development of reusable software code
* very good communication skills in English
The successful candidate will work in an inspiring and pleasant
environment and will receive adequate professional support. We offer a
challenging scientific task, a high degree of autonomy and
state-of-the-art technical infrastructure. Candidates are encouraged to
pursue a doctoral degree in conjunction with their work at ZIB. The
position will be initially financed for a period of two years with the
possibility of extension. The salary is based upon wage group IIa/Ib as
per Berlin Collective Agreement for the Public Sector.
