STUDENT TRAVEL SUPPORT
Overview.
Thanks to the support of IEEE Computer Society TCCC and IMT Lucca (for
students from any country) and NSF* (for US-based students only), a
number of travel awards will be available to support students for
attending WoWMoM 2011. The award can be:
- A grant, to be used for student travel-related expenses such as
airfare, hotel, etc., or
- Complimentary lodging at IMT premises (from Sunday, June 19, to
Friday, June 24, 2011).

Selection Criteria and Process.
- special efforts will be made to award student participants who are
under-represented minorities (i.e., African-Americans, Hispanics, Native
Americans, and Native Pacific Islanders) and/or women, coming from
diverse institutions;
- all student travel awardees are required to register for the conference;
- awardees are expected to make their own travel arrangements; - a
committee consisting of Mohan Kumar, Silvia Giordano and Yonghe Liu will
evaluate the applicants and select the award recipients.
Application Process.
An application for a travel award will consist of the studentís vita, a
letter from the student, and a letter from the studentís advisor.
The letter from the student should include: - a brief summary of
research interests and accomplishments to date;
- a description of areas reflected in the WoWMoM program that would
impact the studentís research; and
- why the conference attendance is important to the student.
In addition, the studentís advisor should send a letter of
recommendation to the committee, including:
- confirmation that the student is a Ph.D. candidate in good standing;
- the suitability of the WoWMoM program material to the studentís
research area;
- ways this particular student would benefit from attendance at the
conference;
- the strengths and potential contributions of the student; and
- availability of funds from other sources. In particular, the advisor,
the student, and/or the student's institute is required to pay for the
student's conference registration fee.
Applications must be sent by e-mail to all the members of the evaluation
committee: Mohan Kumar (kumar [at] cse.uta.edu), Silvia Giordano
(silvia.giordano [at] supsi.ch), and Yonghe Liu (yonghe [at] cse.uta.edu).
Important dates.
Application submission: May 20, 2011
Decisions/notification: May 25, 2011 Acceptance by the recipient: June
1, 2011 (Conference registration must be completed)
