A PhD position is available in the Combinatorial Optimization and Graph Algorithms Group at
TU Berlin (www3.math.tu-berlin.de/coga/). The main focus of the group is on research and teaching
in the areas of Discrete Mathematics and Combinatorial Optimization, in particular network
optimization, flows, scheduling, approximation algorithms, linear and integer programming etc. We
maintain contacts with numerous internationally leading scientists and research institutions all
over the world.

We are seeking for candidates with an excellent academic degree (master degree or comparable) in
mathematics or computer science, with profound knowledge in Algorithmic Discrete Mathematics and
deepened knowledge of Combinatorical Optimization and Discrete Geometry. Successful candidates
will work on the research project "On the Expressivity of Neural Networks" in cooperation with
the group of Prof. Christian Haase at FU Berlin.

Besides its many cultural attractions, Berlin offers a strong scientific landscape including
three major universities as well as the Berlin Mathematics Research Center MATH+ (mathplus.de)
with its international graduate program BERLIN MATHEMATICAL SCHOOL (www.math-berlin.de), promoted
by the German Excellence Initiative; these offer opportunities for joint research and support for
PhD students and postdocs (e.g., meetings, lecture series, summer schools etc.).
