IPDPS 2026 Advance Program, Panel, Tutorials, and Student Travel Grants

40th IEEE International Parallel & Distributed Processing Symposium

May 25–29, 2026 • New Orleans, USA www.ipdps.org

------------------------------------

The 40th IEEE International Parallel & Distributed Processing Symposium
(IPDPS 2026)will be held in New Orleans, USA, May 25–29, 2026, with
workshops and tutorials on May 25–26 and the main technical program on
May 27–29. Here are the latest highlights as we approach the conference:

Advance Program Now Available

The full advance program for IPDPS 2026 is now online. Browse the
complete schedule of technical sessions, workshops, tutorials, panels,
and keynotes to plan your week in New Orleans:

Panel: Extending the Lifespan of Supercomputers — Experience,
Challenges, and Opportunities

The implicit HPC rule "replace every few years with something bigger"is
under pressure. With Moore's and Koomey's laws fading, machine
production delays, rising costs, environmental scrutiny, and
geopolitical constraints on component supply chains, extending the life
of supercomputers is becoming both a necessity and a research challenge.

This panel draws on real-world experience, from unplanned extensions
(Summit@ORNL, Sierra@LLNL) to strategic decisions (Fugaku@RIKEN), to
examine the realities of aging systems: vendor lock-in, software
fragility, rising failure rates, and the tension between sustaining
compute capacity and ever-growing application demands.

Panelists: Al Geist, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Judith Hill,
Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, and Fumiyoshi Shoji, RIKEN
