***Tenure Track Position in Mathematical Optimization***

We are looking for highly talented and enthusiastic candidates with a PhD in any relevant area of Mathematics, Theoretical Computer Science or Econometrics and a track record in Mathematical Optimization or closely related disciplines. We particularly invite qualified women to apply.

The position is part of the group Discrete Mathematics and Mathematical Programming (DMMP), with six permanent scientific staff, teaching assistants, plus about 15 PhD students and post-docs. Our main research areas are in combinatorial optimization, mathematical programming, and algorithmic game theory, with applications in health, energy, logistics and traffic. See http://dmmp.ewi.utwente.nl for details.

We are particularly interested in strengthening our group in the theory and practice of mathematical programming. Yet, applications from researchers in related fields like discrete optimization will receive consideration, too.

Our teaching involves courses in the following curricula: The BSc program in Applied Mathematics, the MSc program in Operations Research, as well as nationwide MSc and PhD programmes of Mastermath (http://www.mastermath.nl) and the Dutch Network for the Mathematics of OR (http://www.lnmb.nl). Working and teaching languages are English and Dutch. Mastering the Dutch language is not a prerequisite, but a medium term goal.

The position is a Tenure Track position, which means that promotion from UD (assistant professor) to UHD (associate professor) and subsequently to professor is planned, based on individual performance agreements. Depending on experience, an initial appointment at UHD level is also possible. A definitive assessment will take place no later than five years, after which tenure is granted, given a positive review. Criteria for evaluation are an international visibility in research, including research funding and top publications, as well as teaching.

The terms of employment are in accordance with the Dutch Collective Labour Agreement for Universities (CAO). Depending on relevant work experience, the gross monthly salary for an employee on a full time basis ranges from € 3,228 to € 5,473. Employees are also entitled to a holiday allowance of 8% of the gross annual salary and a year-end bonus of 8,33%.

The University of Twente, with its world-class research institutes CTIT (http://www.utwente.nl/ctit/), MIRA (http://www.utwente.nl/mira/), and MESA+ (http://www.utwente.nl/mesaplus/), offers an excellent environment for researchers in applied mathematics, and has an attractive campus with lots of facilities for sports and leisure.

Candidates should have the ambition to become a professor, with passion for both research and teaching, and a track record that documents this ambition. Applications (including curriculum vitae, list of publications, research statement, and three names of potential references) can be submitted online (http://www.utwente.nl/vacatures/en/) before August 15, 2013 to the University of Twente, attn. Prof.dr.ir. A.J. Mouthaan, Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science.

This vacancy is part of an initiative in which twelve tenure track positions in mathematics will become available at Dutch universities and research institutes. This is made possible by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science via the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO). For more information, please visit http://www.nwo.nl/math.
