The Department of Industrial Systems Engineering and Product Design
(EA18) of the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture (FEA) at Ghent
University (UGent), Belgium, seeks candidates for a tenure-track
assistant/associate-professor position in the domain of "Industrial
Systems Engineering", to start next academic year (2015-2016). The
appointment will be at the Tenure-Track Assistant/Associate Professor
level, and the tenure will be granted after 5 years if the agreed upon
objectives are reached. Candidates with a strong background in the field
of systems engineering as it applies to the design, control and
optimization of production systems are strongly encouraged to apply. Any
industrial experience will be considered as an asset.

The department EA18 is active in the domains of Industrial Engineering
(IE) and Operations Research (OR). It wishes to strengthen its expertise
in the area of Industrial Systems Engineering. It seeks a candidate with
a proven research record, based on peer-reviewed international
publications, in the domain of systems design, control and optimization
or in a closely related domain. The candidate is also expected to play
an important role in the strategic research center "Flanders Make",
which conducts research in close collaboration with universities and
leading companies. Our department heads one of the 4 research groups:
"Human centered manufacturing and robotic systems". This research center
offers a unique opportunities to expand the research group around this
theme, and the candidate will be expected to assist the department in
this task.

Teaching is an important element of the workload. The candidate is
expected to teach two courses in the Master of Industrial Engineering
and Operations Research (MaIEOR): the 6-credit course "Methods
Engineering and Work Measurement" and the 4-credit course "Human Factors
System Design". The candidate is also expected to define, coordinate and
supervise a number of master theses for students in MaIEOR. In addition,
he/she will take some organizational and/or logistical tasks in the
department or faculty, in consultation with the colleagues.

Service activities of the department consist primarily in developing
relationships with industrial companies or their professional
associations mainly through projects and specialized courses. This
provides opportunities for research contracts and thesis subjects for
master students. The candidate will be expected to participate in these
activities albeit with moderation.
