IJAHUC Special Issue on "Localization, Positioning and Coverage in Wireless Sensor Networks"

Call for Papers

Special Issue on "Localization, Positioning and Coverage in Wireless Sensor Networks"

International Journal of Ad Hoc and Ubiquitous Computing (IJAHUC)

Journal Impact Factor: 0.435 (2010)

http://www.inderscience.com/browse/callpaper.php?callID=1741

In Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) deployments, wireless sensor nodes should be strategically placed in order to maximize the sensed area while minimizing the number of nodes to be placed in the field. Moreover, wireless radio coverage distances should be taken into account in order to cover large areas. Wireless sensors may be located quite far from each other, allowing lower deployment costs, but it may increase the wireless sensor node power consumption due to the energy needed to reach large distances. Although many factors may affect the position of each wireless sensor node inside the WSN, there are two main ones: the radio coverage area, which allows the sensors to communicate, and, the sensing coverage area, which gives the sensing region. Both types of coverage areas could be affected by the field where the WSN is deployed, but different factors affect each type of coverage. The goal is to maximize the coverage percentage, while coverage holes should be minimized.

This special issue is focused on sensor node location and positioning techniques taking into account the aforementioned constraints.

Suitable topics include but are not limited to:

- WSN radio coverage.
- WSN sensing field.
- WSN deployment zones.
- Isotropic and sectorial sensing nodes.
- Positioning systems.
- Node location techniques.
- Analytical node placement systems.
- 2D and 3D Regions of Interest in WSNs.
- Theoretical systems and analytical methods to maximize the radio and sensing coverage.
- Sensing gain and power gain systems.
- Sleep scheduling techniques for enhancing WSN coverage.
- Self-organization Strategies.

Submitted papers should not have been previously published nor be currently under consideration for publication elsewhere. (N.B. Conference papers may only be submitted if the paper was not originally copyrighted and if it has been completely re-written).
All papers are refereed through a peer review process. A guide for authors, sample copies and other relevant information for submitting papers are available on the Author Guidelines page (http://www.inderscience.com/mapper.php?id=31).

SAT 2012: Call for Papers

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
15th International Conference on
THEORY AND APPLICATIONS OF SATISFIABILITY TESTING
--- SAT 2012 ---

Trento, Italy, June 17-20th, 2012
http://sat2012.fbk.eu/
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

AIM and SCOPE
=============

The International Conference on Theory and Applications of
Satisfiability Testing (SAT) is the primary annual meeting for
researchers studying the propositional satisfiability
problem. Importantly, here SAT is interpreted in a rather broad sense:
besides plain propositional satisfiability, it includes the domains of
MaxSAT and Pseudo-Boolean (PB) constraints, Quantified Boolean
Formulae (QBF), Satisfiability Modulo Theories (SMT), Constraints
Programming (CSP) techniques for word-level problems and their
propositional encoding.

To this extent, many hard combinatorial problems can be encoded as SAT
instances, in the broad sense mentioned above, including problems that
arise in hardware and software verification, AI planning and
scheduling, OR resource allocation, etc. The theoretical and practical
advances in SAT research over the past twenty years have contributed
to making SAT technology an indispensable tool in these domains.

SAT 2012 will take place in Trento, Italy, a cosmopolitan city set in
a spectacular mountain scenery, and home to a world-class university
and research centres.

RELEVANT TOPICS
===============

The topics of the conference span practical and theoretical research
on SAT (in the broader sense above) and its applications, and include,
but are not limited to:

* Theoretical issues
- Combinatorial Theory of SAT
- Proof Systems and Proof Complexity in SAT
- Analysis of SAT Algorithms
* Solving:
- Improvements of current solving procedures
- Novel solving procedures, techniques and heuristics
- Incremental solving
* Beyond solving:
- Functionalities (e.g., proofs, unsat-cores, interpolants,...)
- Optimization
* Applications
- SAT techniques for other domains
- Novel Problem Encodings
- Novel Industrial Applications of SAT

A more detailed description can be found on the web site.

INVITED SPEAKERS
================

We are honored to announce the following invited speakers at SAT'12:

* Aaron Bradley, Boulder, USA.
"SAT-based Verification with IC3: Foundations and Demands"

"Satisfiability and The Art of Computer Programming"

The presence of both speakers has been confirmed, although the titles
of the talks may be provisional.

PAPER SUBMISSION
================

Papers must be edited in LATEX using the LNCS format and
be submitted electronically as PDF files via EasyChair.
We envisage three categories of submissions:

REGULAR PAPERS. Submissions, not exceeding fourteen (14) pages, should
contain original research, and sufficient detail to assess the
merits and relevance of the contribution. For papers reporting
experimental results, authors are strongly encouraged to make their
data available with their submission. Submissions reporting on case
studies in an industrial context are strongly invited, and should
describe details, weaknesses and strength in sufficient
depth. Simultaneous submission to other conferences with proceedings
or submission of material that has already been published elsewhere
is not allowed.

TOOL PRESENTATIONS. Submissions, not exceeding four (4) pages, should
describe the implemented tool and its novel features. A
demonstration is expected to accompany a tool presentation. Papers
describing tools that have already been presented in other
conferences before will be accepted only if significant and clear
enhancements to the tool are reported and implemented.

EXTENDED ABSTRACTS/POSTERS. Submissions, not exceeding two (2) pages,
briefly introducing work in progress, student work, or preliminary
results. These papers are expected to be presented as posters at the
conference.

Further information about paper submission, including a more detailed
description of the scope and specification of the three submission
categories, will be made available at SAT'12 web page. The review
process will be subject to a rebuttal phase.

[DMANET] PhD studentships at the University of Nottingham

PhD studentships at the University of Nottingham

The Digital Economy promises to transform the ways in which we work,
shop, travel, learn, socialise and play. It is transforming many aspects
of society, particularly with regard to technology and provides research
challenges in both technical and social areas, including:

Ubiquitous Computing - where millions of computers are embedded in the
world around us;
Location-Aware Computing - taking advantage of knowing the
geographical position of these fixed or mobile computing and
communications devices.
Pervasive Data with a vast amount of data generated and captured on
processes, products and people, the potential for gathering information
from this data is huge but subject to the availability and development
of algorithms and infrastructure able to cope with such vast amounts of
often distributed data. Further, the processing of data is increasingly
subject to privacy-protecting policies and other restrictions such as
regional legislation, strengthening the need for tools which are not
only functional but satisfy requirements such as transparency, privacy
and personalisability.
Science in Society - considering the technological, social or legal
perspectives to the grand challenge associated with modelling users,
their environment and the interactions between the two.

We are interested in students from a wide variety of backgrounds
including computer science, engineering, human factors, psychology,
sociology, business, geography, social science and the arts, providing

Due to the challenges of many real world applications in both research
and practice, scheduling problems have received a significant amount of
attention in a range of disciplines including artificial intelligence,
operations research, engineering and computer science. Problems range
from classic production scheduling to various applications in education,
industry and business sections. Different constraints, objectives as
well as problem characteristics have to be considered while developing
efficient and intelligent computational methods for these complex and
large-scale problems. Evolutionary computation has shown to be one of
the most effective intelligent algorithms for solving scheduling problems.

This special session is being organized as an activity of the Technical
Committee of Evolutionary Computation at IEEE, and aims to explore
recent research advances on all aspects of evolutionary computation on
scheduling problems. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

- Theoretical or empirical analysis of evolutionary algorithms for
scheduling problems
- Benchmark problems and performance metrics
- Dynamic scheduling problems
- Single and multi-objective scheduling
- Hybrid methods for scheduling problems
- Case-based planning/scheduling
