Previous events were held in Bilbao, Genova, Warsaw, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Guimarães, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Luleå, Bournemouth, Bari and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

Deep learning is a branch of artificial intelligence covering a spectrum of current frontier research and industrial innovation that provides more efficient algorithms to deal with large-scale data in a huge variety of environments: computer vision, neurosciences, speech recognition, language processing, human-computer interaction, drug discovery, health informatics, medical image analysis, recommender systems, advertising, fraud detection, robotics, games, finance, biotechnology, physics experiments, biometrics, communications, climate sciences, geographic information systems, signal processing, genomics, materials design, video technology, social systems, etc. etc.

The field is also raising a number of relevant questions about robustness of the algorithms, explainability, transparency, and important ethical concerns at the frontier of current knowledge that deserve careful multidisciplinary discussion.

Most deep learning subareas will be displayed, and main challenges identified through 18 four-hour and a half courses, 2 keynote lectures, 1 round table and a few hackathon-type competitions among students, which will tackle the most active and promising topics. Renowned academics and industry pioneers will lecture and share their views with the audience. The organizers are convinced that outstanding speakers will attract the brightest and most motivated students. Face to face interaction and networking will be main ingredients of the event. It will be also possible to fully participate in vivo remotely.

[DMANET] Special session on Optimization for forecasting at MIC 2024

Optimization and forecasting are interconnected, if only because
optimized outcomes are typically meant to be applied in future settings.
Business analytics, in its variants of predictive analytics and
prescriptive analytics, builds on this, including forecasting and
optimization tasks. However, these tasks are frequently separated and
lack cohesion. There have been studies on data uncertainty, but until
recently little work has been done on integrated approaches,
specifically on optimization methods applied to forecasting. The recent
growth of AI has introduced new, effective approaches, whereas
forecasting algorithms were previously primarily based on statistical
considerations.

Given the growing awareness of the interplay between optimization and
AI, which has made it a hot topic for meta- and matheuristics, this
session aims to focus on the connection between optimization and
forecasting, whether based on AI or other techniques. The goal is to
provide a platform for exchanging ideas, raising awareness of recent
developments, and stimulating discussions on the intersection of these
two areas.

Submissions to the session follow the same process as regular conference
submissions, simply select the session from the drop-down field on the
Easychair submission page at
https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=mic2024.

Essential guidelines are in the following, for more details please refer
to the conference web page at https://mic2024.fr/

All papers must be original and not simultaneously submitted to another
journal or conference. The following paper categories are welcome:
- Regular paper: novel and original research contributions of a maximum
of 15 pages (LNCS format)
- Short paper: extended abstract of novel research works of 6 pages
(LNCS format)
- Oral presentation: high-quality published or preliminary recent works
## Important Dates
- Submissions / registrations open: December 1st, 2023
- Submission deadline: January 5th, 2024

All submissions should be written in English and have a maximum of eight (8) printed pages, including figures and references. Two (2) additional pages at 100$/page for supplementary material only (such as theorems, proofs, implementation details) are allowed. Starting last year, DCOSS-IoT will follow a double-blind review process. As a result, authors must make a good faith effort to anonymize their submissions. Although submission is double-blind, the existence or availability of non-anonymous preprints (on arXiv or other preprint servers) will not lead to your paper being rejected. Reviewers will be instructed not to look for such preprints actively but encountering them will not constitute a conflict of interest. Papers that do not meet the size, formatting, and anonymization requirements will not be reviewed. We require each paper to be in Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) and submitted through the HotCRP submission system.
*** Special Issue and Best Paper Awards ***
DCOSS-IoT 2024 will announce a best paper award and a best poster/demo award.

[DMANET] EURO Doctoral Dissertation Award 2024

Apologies for cross-posting.

EURO Doctoral Dissertation Award 2024

https://www.euro-online.org/web/pages/210/doctoral-dissertation-award-edda

The purpose of the prize is to distinguish an outstanding doctoral
dissertation in OR defended in the countries having an OR society that is a
member of EURO.

THE PRIZE

The prize consists of a certificate and reward of €1,000

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS

The EDDA 2022 jury will only consider dissertations in Operational Research
defended between 1 January 2022 and 31 December 2023. The dissertation must
have been defended in a University located in a member country of EURO. The
author of the dissertation must be a member of a member society of EURO.

To be considered, a dissertation should be nominated by the supervisor of
the thesis (one of them in case of multiple supervisors). The supervisor of
the dissertation is asked to provide the jury with the following
information:

*The text of the dissertation;
*An extended abstract (3 to 5 pages) of the dissertation; this abstract
should be written in English and should include precise keywords;
*If the dissertation is not in English, a paper in English which has been
authored or co-authored by the candidate and which describes the core ideas
of the dissertation. This paper should preferably have been published in or
submitted to an international journal;
*Nomination letters (or reports) from two referees selected by the
dissertation supervisor, supporting the submission and stating their
assessment of why the dissertation should win the award;
*An up-to-date CV of the candidate, including a list of publications.

No nomination will be considered without these items. Please also check the
guidelines.

Since many doctoral dissertations in OR are defended each year only
outstanding pieces of work are expected to be submitted. The jury would
like to remind supervisors that only high-quality theses might have a
chance of winning the award.

The jury selects a shortlist of finalists who will present their work in a
special session at the 33rd European Conference on Operational Research in
Copenhagen. There is no registration fee for each finalist. EURO will also
contribute to the travel and accommodation expenses. The winner will be
determined by the jury at the end of the special session(s) and will be
announced by the chair of the jury during the closing session of the EURO
2024 Conference.

Applications should be submitted (as a zip file or equivalent single
submission) online
https://www.euro-online.org/awards/edda2024/registration.php by the
deadline of January 31, 2024.

[DMANET] EURO Excellence in Practice Award 2024

Apologies for cross-posting.

EURO Excellence in Practice Award 2024
Sponsored by Gurobi Optimization
https://www.euro-online.org/web/pages/209/excellence-in-practice-award-eepa

The purposes of the competition are to:
* recognise outstanding accomplishments in the practice of OR,
* attract more application-oriented papers to EURO-k Conferences,
* promote the practice of OR in general.

THE PRIZE

The prize consists of a certificate and reward of €3,000 shared between
the representatives of the winning application.

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS

All interested candidates are invited to submit a detailed description of
an application of OR with a real impact on practice, which has original
features, whether in methodology, field of application and/or
implementation. This may be in the form of a paper written for publication
(although not necessarily published at the time of submission), a client
report, or other appropriate documentation. The documentation must include
a document which explicitly states, for each of the criteria below, how the
application meets that criterion. This document may be a summary document,
pointing towards evidence contained in other documents submitted or
referenced as part of the application; or it may form the main body of the
application if that is more appropriate. The first full implementation
(that is, not counting piloting or prototyping) must be long enough ago to
allow for convincing assessment of realised benefits, but we would normally
expect the end-point of the authors' contribution to the project to be not
more than 4 years ago. The work must not have been submitted concurrently
to another competition. The application is open to OR specialists from any
part of the world. Please also check the guidelines.

The criteria for the evaluation of the submissions are:

the real impact on practice,
the scientific quality of the application,
the relevance to Operational Research,
the appreciation by the organisation involved with the application,
the originality in methodology, implementations and/or field of application.

A letter or other evidence of appreciation by the organisation or
organisations that made use of the work described is essential, and will
form part of the assessment.

The jury selects a short-list of finalists who will present their work in a
special session at the 33rd European Conference on Operational Research in
Copenhagen. There is no registration fee for one representative of each of
the finalist presentations. The winner will be determined by the jury at
the end of the special session(s) and will be announced by the chair of the
jury during the closing session of the EURO 2024 Conference.

Applications should be submitted (as a zip file or equivalent single
submission) online
https://www.euro-online.org/awards/eepa2024/registration.php by the
deadline of January 31, 2024.
