[DMANET] PhD or postdoc position in integer optimization

PhD or postdoc position in integer optimization (up to six years)

mathematics, computer science, operations research

Chair of Operations Research
RWTH Aachen University

The chair of operations research at RWTH Aachen University, Germany (
www.or.rwth-aachen.de) opens a full-time PhD or postdoc position at the
earliest possible starting date. The salary is according to the German TV-L
E13 tarif. The position is limited to three years, with a possible
extension to a total of six years. Discrete mathematics, theoretical
computer science and operations research form the interdisciplinary
background of the team of 40+ student assistents and scientific staff. Our
current research focus is on integer and combinatorial optimization, in
particular decomposition algorithms and the connection between optimization
and machine learning. Fundamental research is as important as practical
applications.

You have sucessfully completed a master's degree (or comparable) in
mathematics or computer science with distinction. You have a profound
knowledge of mathematical (in particular integer/discrete) optimization.
Ideally, you are mathematically talented and curious and interested in
real-world applications. Generally good computer and implementation skills
are indispensable. It is a benefit to know the SCIP framework (scip.zib.de)
well. Resposibility and perseverance, creativity and team spirit are
extremely welcome. Fluent command of the German language is a must.

Please add to the usual documents a brief motivation statement and a PDF of
your thesis, if already available.

Your tasks: You will become part of the GCG team (www.or.rwth-aachen.de/gcg),
give your scientific input there as part of your PhD project and further
