[DMANET] PhD positions in Bioinformatics / Computational Biology at Georgia State

The Computer Science department at Georgia State University is looking
for strong PhD candidates to join its exciting Next Generation program
in the Bioinformatics cluster. The candidate would work under the
supervision of Dr. Murray Patterson, however there will be ample
opportunity to collaborate with other faculty, labs and industry.

The ideal candidate should have some background in
- data analysis, interpretation and visualization
- mathematical modeling
- C/C++, Python, or other modern programming languages
- some familiarity with the unix/linux environment

Candidates with a BSc. or MSc. in computer science, mathematics or
similar disciplines will be considered. Knowledge of
biology/bioinformatics is not a must, but is a plus. Candidates from
biology or chemistry with a strong computational component will also
be considered.

Interested applicants should compose a single PDF file containing the
following:
- a cover/motivation letter
- CV
- (unofficial) transcripts of your grades
- the contact details of 2-3 professional references

Please send this PDF in an email to mpatterson@cs.gsu.edu with the
subject line "PhD application GSU"

The Department of Computer Science has a current enrollment of about
75 graduate students, and is active in research areas including
bioinformatics, graphics and visualization, networks and distributed
systems, and algorithms. The department emphasizes interdisciplinary
research: it runs its own bioinformatics program, and participates in
Georgia State's Molecular Basis of Disease and Brains and Behavior
programs. U.S. News and World Report ranks Georgia State as #2 in
Most Innovative Schools, nationally. Georgia State University is
located in the vibrant and multicultural Atlanta, a city which is
quickly becoming a major technology hub in the country.

Best Wishes,
Murray Patterson
