[DMANET] PhD position in applied geometry - TU Graz

[apologies for cross-posting]

Dear colleagues,

A PhD student position in applied geometry is available at the Institute for Geometry of the Graz University of Technology, Austria, starting December 2020 at the earliest.

The position is part of the "Discretization in Geometry and Dynamics<https://www.discretization.de/>" effort (SFB Transregio 109), in particular project A05<https://www.discretization.de/projects/A05/> . The general focus is on discrete geometry with an emphasis on structure preservation from the smooth theory. In particular A05 aims at the study of conformal deformations of discrete surfaces, discrete surface and curve flows, as well as their applications in geometry processing / modeling, computer graphics, and physical simulation.

We are looking for candidates with an interest in geometry processing with a strong mathematical component, at the interface between theory and efficient algorithms. At least some programming experience (C++/Matlab/Mathematica/Python) will be required, research experience is a plus, as is experience in differential geometry / partial differential equations. Successful candidates must hold a Master's or Diplom degree in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science or similar, and should be able to work independently and as part of a very international group.

The official instructions for the application procedure are published by TU Graz at https://www.tugraz.at/sites/mibla/mitteilungsblaetter/studienjahr-20202021/2-stueck-21-oktober-2020/ (in German). For further information, candidates can contact me (Olga Diamanti) at [olga.diamanti AT tugraz DOT at].

Please feel free to forward to any interested colleagues or students.

Thank you, and best regards,
Olga Diamanti
