[DMANET] PhD position at LMU Munich - Algorithmic Bioinformatics

The Canzar lab at the Gene Center of the University of Munich (LMU) is
recruiting graduate students in algorithmic bioinformatics, to start in
spring 2022.

The successful applicant will develop and engineer efficient algorithms
for analyzing biomedical high-throughput sequencing data. As part of
a collaborative research center, (s)he will work together with biologists
and clinicians to address computational challenges that arise in the
engineering of lymphocytes for adoptive immunotherapy. In this context,
we have recently developed methods and software tools to accurately
sketch massive amounts of single-cell data sets, to efficiently cluster
and visualize multimodal data types, and to compare tree-like single-cell
trajectories of immune cells extending techniques from natural language
processing. The successful candidate will continue to employ techniques
from combinatorial optimization and machine learning to facilitate the
integrative analysis of single-cell genomics data that can help to improve
the functionality of engineered T cells.

The Canzar lab is embedded in the stimulating, interdisciplinary
environment of the Graduate School for Quantitative Biosciences Munich
(QBM), which integrates approaches ranging from bioinformatics and
theoretical biophysics to molecular systems biology.

We are seeking motivated candidates with a degree in computer science,
(applied) mathematics, or bioinformatics to join our lab.
Background/training in biology or medicine is not required, but a strong
motivation to implement and tailor novel algorithms for their application to
biomedical data is expected.

To apply, send your application materials, including a motivation
letter, current CV, and names of two referees in a single pdf file before
18 November 2021 to Stefan Canzar (stefan.canzar@lmu.de <mailto:stefan.canzar@lmu.de>).
