Dear all,
We are seeking to appoint a Research Associate to work on the research project "Dover Clean Ferry Power (DCFP): Techno-Economic Feasibility Analysis of Electric Power Solutions for Port of Dover Ferries", funded by Department for Transport (DfT) through Innovate UK. This is an interdisciplinary project, involving the application of Operational Research and Management Science tools and techniques in forecasting the 'demand' for electric power by the new hybrid ferries at Port of Dover (PoD), the future additions to the fleet and the potential future electrification of existing diesel ferries, and identifying potential 'supply' solutions based on different local energy generation and storage, and shore battery charging scenarios.
The post is full-time at the Centre for Logistics and Heuristics Optimisation (CLHO) at Kent Business School and will have a duration of up to 6 months (part-time applications may be also considered).
The successful candidate will be experienced at the appropriate level for the complexity of the research proposed and will have a PhD (or be in the final stages of their PhD) in Operational Research, Management Science, Business Analytics, Mathematics, Energy Systems, Energy Management, or other related fields. Candidates with background in modelling supply chains, simulation, stochastic and robust optimisation, combinatorial/discrete optimisation are also invited to apply. The candidate should preferably have a good understanding of Linear Programming and mathematical modelling in optimisation software and should be willing to carry out interdisciplinary research in the area of energy systems and maritime transport.
The closing date to apply for the role is 23.59 hours BST on Monday 18 October 2021 and interviews are to be held: w/c 25 October 2021.
For any informal discussion please contact Dr Ramin Raeesi (r.raeesi@kent.ac.uk).
