[DMANET] Assistant Professorship in Discrete Optimization with tenure track at TU Berlin

Technische Universität Berlin
Faculty II - Mathematics and Natural Sciences
Institute of Mathematics

invites applications for a position of a

Junior Professorship
salary grade W1 with W3 tenure-track option
in the field of "Mathematics – Discrete Optimization".

With this position, TU Berlin especially addresses and aims to promote young scientists.
For that reason, this position will be a temporary W1 junior professorship with an
evaluation after 3 years. In case of a second successful tenure-track evaluation, this
position will lead to a permanent W3 professorship (full professorship) after 6 years.

Working field:

The position requires research and teaching and an internationally visible profile in the
area of Discrete Optimization. The research focus of the position is expected to be a
branch of Discrete Optimization. Furthermore, cooperations with the current professors
at the Institute of Mathematics as well as participation in existing and future collaborative
research projects of all mathematical institutes in Berlin (Research Center MATHEON,
Einstein Center for Mathematics Berlin, Berlin Mathematical School etc.) are expected.
Teaching will be required in all mathematical degree programs (including undergraduate),
in particular in the area of algorithmic discrete mathematics, and in the service teaching
of mathematics for other programs. Teaching requirements shall be met in English and
German (after few years). Candidates are expected to supervise students' theses on
bachelor, master, and PhD level as well as to participate in the academic administration
of the university.

Requirements:

Candidates must fulfill the requirements for appointment at the junior professor level in
compliance with § 102a BerlHG (Berlin Higher Education Act). These include a
completed degree in mathematics or a comparable subject, a doctorate in mathematics
or a comparable subject, a particular qualification for academic work usually attested by
the excellent quality of a doctorate, and pedagogical aptitude, demonstrated by
teaching experience and outlined in a teaching portfolio (for further information see
TUB Website, quick access 144242).

Internationally visible research results in the area of Discrete Optimization have to be
proven through relevant publications. Experiences in acquiring and carrying out projects
and project alliances involving third-party funding are desirable.

How to apply:

Technische Universität Berlin is determined to increase the proportion of women in
research and teaching and therefore strongly encourages qualified female researchers
to apply. Qualified individuals with disabilities will be favored. The TU Berlin values the
diversity of its members and is committed to the goals of equal opportunities. In the
context of the strategic internationalization process, TU Berlin assumes the recruited
academic teaching staff's ability to conduct classes in English. Technische Universität
Berlin is a certified family-friendly higher education institution, and our Dual Career
