Job description
encoord is looking for a full-time Power System Optimization Modeler to join its office in Essen, Germany.
About encoord
encoord is a software company that helps energy stakeholders plan for the future. encoord's core solution is the Scenario Analysis Interface for Energy Systems (SAInt), an integrated modeling platform that enables coordination across planning domains. SAInt executes optimization models for system expansion, operations, and markets, along with physical simulations of electric, gas, and thermal networks, all in one modeling platform with a single and consistent data structure.
Utility planners and engineers can integrate planning across electric generation, transmission, and distribution by seamlessly transitioning between balanced and unbalanced AC power flow simulations and production cost optimizations. With SAInt, developers quantify the value and risks of new projects by running capacity expansion and production cost optimizations. In the same modeling platform, they can also assess infrastructure impacts through physical simulations.
SAInt's flexible and intuitive interface fosters collaboration between engineers, aligning different planning objectives and transforming energy planning. With offices in the United States and Germany, encoord serves electric and gas utilities, system and market operators, and asset developers worldwide.
About the Role
As a Power System Optimization Modeler, you will be part of encoord's Product Team and you will work closely with the Software Development Team. In this role, you will support the design, development, and maintenance of energy system models, focusing on power system optimization.
You will have the opportunity to work with a culturally-diverse and multi-disciplinary team and be part of a growing company whose mission is to enable the energy transition and help utilities plan for the future.
About you
The ideal candidate will have the following skills and expertise:
• Master's or Ph.D. in electric power systems, operations research, or similar.
• Knowledge and experience in mathematical optimization: linear and integer programming.
• A basic understanding of the design and operation of energy markets (long-term, day-ahead, intraday).
• Knowledge of capacity expansion modeling is a plus.
• Aptitude for software development and familiarity with object-oriented design.
• Strong analytical skills, creative thinking, ability to grasp and convey complex concepts
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
