*About the conference*

LAGOS (the Latin-American Algorithms, Graphs, and Optimization Symposium),
is the merging of two Latin-American Conferences on these subjects: GRACO
(Brazilian Symposium on Graphs, Algorithms, and Combinatorics) and LACGA
(Latin-American Conference on Combinatorics, Graphs, and Applications). The
previous editions were held in Fortaleza, Brazil (GRACO 2001

*Instructions for Submissions*

*Extended abstracts.* Authors are invited to submit an extended abstract in
English (up to 6 pages), containing original research results. The authors
are fully responsible of convincing the referees of the correctness and
interest of their results using only those six pages. Authors can add an
optional appendix with proofs, sketches of proofs, or additional material.
If included, the appendix will be read at the discretion of the Scientific
Committee and it is expected that it will only be used to reach a decision
for very unusual cases. The appendix has no page limit, and since it will
not be published, it cannot be referenced in the extended abstract.
Submission of a paper implies that the work described has not been
previously published (except in the form of a short abstract or as part of
a lecture or academic thesis), that it is not simultaneously submitted
elsewhere, and that, if accepted, it will not be published elsewhere in the
same form. A special volume of Electronic Notes in Discrete Mathematics
(ENDM) will be dedicated to accepted extended abstracts. The extended
abstracts must comply with the ENDM LaTeX style and are limited to 6 pages,
including the front matter, text, and references. Instructions for
submission preparation may be obtained in the ENDM web page (
http://www.elsevier.com/locate/endm). Once prepared, the paper should be
submitted by means of the Easy Chair system (
https://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=lagos2015).

*Posters.* Submissions of posters on all areas related to the symposium are
also solicited. Posters must also be submitted for review in the form of an
extended abstract formatted in the ENDM style (
http://www.elsevier.com/locate/endm), and must not exceed 2 pages in
length. Posters should also be submitted via the Easy Chair System (
https://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=lagos2015). Accepted posters
will NOT appear in the ENDM special volume, but they will appear in the
symposium's booklet. Posters will be presented at the symposium in a
separate session.

Following the tradition of LAGOS, a special issue of Discrete Applied
Mathematics will be prepared after LAGOS'15. All authors of accepted papers
at the symposium are invited to contribute to this special volume. The
topics should relate to the central themes of the symposium, but are not
necessarily restricted to the presentations at LAGOS'15. All articles will
be refereed according to the standards of Discrete Applied Mathematics.

[DMANET] Postdoc positions at CoMiCS, Ural Federal University

Ural Federal University (Ekaterinburg, Russia) launches a postdoc
program. Among 20 postdoc positions to be filled at least two are
planned to be associated with CoMiCS (the Center of Mathematics
in Computer Science) at the Institute of Mathematics and Computer
Science.

Ural Federal University is the largest Russian university outside
Moscow. It is located in the downtown of Ekaterinburg, the capital
of the Urals and the fourth-largest city in Russia. The Center of
Mathematics in Computer Science is a recently created Center
of Excellence that is led jointly by Professor Mikhail Volkov
(http://csseminar.imkn.urfu.ru/volkov/ ) and Professor Arseny
Shur (http://kadm.imkn.urfu.ru/pages.php?id=shureng ) and
involves several active younger scientists. Currently, the main
topics of CoMiCS are automata, combinatorics on words and
formal languages but we are especially interested in applicants
whose expertise might broaden the research spectrum of the
center within other areas of Theoretical Computer Science.

The appointment is for one year (with possible extension depending
on funding) and starting date in yearly 2015 is negotiable. The starting
salary is roughly 20.000 Euro per year (before tax); in addition, the
university provides free housing and some travel support. There are
no obligatory teaching duties but those who will want to give a lecture
course on her/his favorite topic (in English), will be very welcome to do
so.

An ideal candidate should have a Ph.D. in Computer Science or in
Discrete Mathematics obtained after 2007, and should have a strong
publication record in top journals and conferences. Applicants should
provide a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and at least two letters of
recommendation. Applicants should apply no later than Dec 1, 2014,
and the positions will remain open until filled. Application material

2015-2016 IBM Herman Goldstine Memorial Postdoctoral Fellowship in
Mathematical Sciences

The Mathematical Sciences Department of the IBM Thomas J. Watson Research
Center invites applications for its 2015-2016 Herman Goldstine Memorial
Postdoctoral Fellowship for research in mathematical and computer
sciences. Areas of active research in the department include: algorithms,
complex systems, data mining, dynamical systems, high-performance
computing, inverse problems, numerical analysis, optimization, probability
theory, statistics, simulation and operations management.

Candidates must have received a Ph.D. after September 2010, or should
expect to receive one before the fellowship commences in the second half
of 2015 (usually in September). Up to two fellowships will be awarded
with a stipend between $95,000 and $120,000 (depending on experience).

The 7th International Conference on Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (BICoB) provides an excellent venue for researchers and practitioners in the fields of bioinformatics to present and publish their research results and techniques. Bioinformatics and computational biology continue to be a vibrant research area with broadening applications and new emerging challenges. In recent years, bioinformatics and computational biology have experience significant advances driven by computational techniques in bioinformatics. reliable communication, Internet applications, social and complex
networks, multiprocessor and multi-core architectures and algorithms,
nanonetworks, biological distributed algorithms, quantum and optics
based distributed algorithms, self-stabilizing, self-organizing and
autonomic systems, sensor, mobile, ad-hoc, robot and peer-to-peer
networks.

Conference presentations will have two formats:

Regular presentations of 25 minutes accompanied by papers of up to
10 pages in the proceedings. This form is intended for contributions
reporting on original research, submitted exclusively to this
conference.

Brief announcements of 5 to 10 minutes accompanied by two page
abstracts in the proceedings. This format is a forum for brief
communications, which may be published in other conferences.

Submission:

Papers are to be submitted electronically, following the guidelines
available on the conference web page. Authors unable to submit
electronically should contact the program chair to receive
instructions.

Each submission must be in English, in PDF format, and begin with a
cover page including: (1) the title, (2) the names and affiliations of
all authors, (3) contact author's email, address and telephone number,
(4) a brief, one paragraph abstract of the paper, (5) indication
whether the paper is a regular submission, or a brief announcement
submission, (6) indication whether the submission is eligible to be
considered for the best student paper award.

A regular submission must not exceed 10 single-column pages (excluding
cover page and references). Additional necessary details may be
included in a clearly marked appendix that will be read at the
discretion of the program committee. A brief announcement submission
must not exceed 3 single-column pages. All submissions must use at
least 11-point font and have reasonable margins. Any submission
deviating from these guidelines will be rejected without consideration
of its merit.

It is recommended that a regular submission begin with a succinct
statement of the problem being addressed, a summary of the main results
or conclusions, a brief explanation of their significance, a brief
statement of the key ideas, and a comparison with related work, all
tailored to a non-specialist. Technical development of the work,
directed to the specialist, should follow. Papers outside of the
conference scope will be rejected without review.

If requested by the authors on the cover page, a regular submission
that is not selected for a regular presentation will also be considered
for the brief announcement format. This will not affect consideration
of the paper for a regular presentation.

Publication:

Regular papers and brief announcements will be included in the
conference proceedings. Extended and revised versions of selected
papers will be considered for a special issue of the Distributed
Computing journal. Two papers will be considered for publication in
JACM.

Paper awards:

Prizes will be given to the best paper and best student paper. A paper
is eligible for the best student paper if at least one of its authors
is a full-time student at submission time. This must be indicated in
the cover page. The PC may decline to confer awards or may split
awards.

[DMANET] EURO Doctoral Dissertation Award 2015

The EDDA (EURO Doctoral Dissertation Award) is a EURO instrument. It
consists of a prize that is awarded at each EURO-k conference. The purpose
of the prize is to distinguish an outstanding PhD thesis in Operational
Research defended in the countries having an OR society that is member of
EURO. It will be awarded for the seventh time at the closing session of the
EURO XXVII Conference in Glasgow.

Eligibility of applications
The EDDA 2015 jury will only consider PhD theses in Operational Research
defended between 15 January 2013 (i.e., the deadline for the preceding
edition of the prize) and 15 January 2015. The dissertation must have been
defended in a University located in a member country of EURO. The author of
the dissertation must be a member of a member society of EURO.

To be considered, a dissertation should be nominated by the supervisor of
the thesis (one of them in case of multiple supervisors). The supervisor of
the dissertation is asked to provide the jury with the following
information:
The text of the dissertation;
An extended abstract (3 to 5 pages) of the dissertation; this abstract
should be written in English and should include precise keywords;
If the dissertation contains co-authored articles, be it published papers
or unpublished manuscripts, the candidate's contribution has to be
specified for each co-authored article;
If the dissertation is not written in English, a paper in English authored
(or co-authored) by the author of the dissertation and describing the core
ideas of the thesis. This paper should preferably have been published in or
submitted to an international journal;
Nomination letters (or reports) from two referees selected by the
dissertation supervisor, supporting the submission and stating their
assessment of why the thesis should win the award;
An up-to-date CV of the candidate, including a list of publications.
No nomination will be considered without these items.

Since many PhD theses in OR are defended each year, the jury would like to
remind supervisors that only outstanding pieces of work have a reasonable
chance of winning the award.

Contributions of the dissertation to the theory and practice of OR;
Applications and/or potential applicability of the results;
Impact on related fields;
Quality of the related publications.
Phase 2:
These 3 finalists are invited to present their contribution in front of the
jury and any other interested participants during a special EDDA session
scheduled at the EURO 2015 conference. The jury selects the final laureate
after the session.

Award
The prize consists of a certificate and reward of EURO 1,000.
The three finalists are granted the early registration fee at the EURO 2015
conference at which they participate as such. EURO will also contribute to
their travel and accommodation expenses.

NETYS will provide a forum to report on best practices and novel

networked systems are solicited. Specific concepts common to different
forms of such systems are most welcome.

NETYS is coupled with the METIS Spring School which aims at introducing
young researchers to the domain of distributed and networked systems
through tutorials on basics, as well as lectures on new research topics
and current trends in this domain.

*Paper submission:*

Submissions should contain original research and sufficient detail to
assess the merits and relevance of the contribution. NETYS welcomes
papers on theory, case studies and comparisons with existing
experimental research, tools, as well as combinations of new theory with
experimental evaluation.

NETYS is soliciting two forms of papers: full and short papers. Full
papers are allowed a maximum of 15 pages in Springer's LNCS format,
whereas short papers are allowed a maximum of 5 pages (in the same
format), both in the submission and in the proceedings. A full paper
submission might be accepted as such, as a short paper or a poster. A
short paper may be accepted as such or as a poster.

Posters will be presented at the conference to reflect work in progress
and will not lead to a publication in the proceedings. Authors are given
the option to accept or not the type in which their paper is selected

With the recent advances in many fields of technologies, wireless sensor networks have gained in attention and are more and more envisioned for a large set of purposes ranging from environment monitoring to rescue operation ranging from health assistance or factory monitoring. For many of these applications, the use of this new technology allows more energy saving and sustainability.
The main focus of this special session 'Wireless Sensor Networks for sustainable development – From low layer communications to Software Oriented Architecture' in IndiaCom 2015 is to review and assess all the research done in the wireless sensor network area for sustainability.

Topics of particular interest include, but are not limited to:

The Algorithms and Complexity group of LIAFA (CNRS and University Paris
Diderot), Paris, France, is seeking excellent candidates for one or more
postdoctoral positions in classical and quantum computing. Topics of

The 7th International Conference on Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (BICoB) provides an excellent venue for researchers and practitioners in the fields of bioinformatics to present and publish their research results and techniques. Bioinformatics and computational biology continue to be a vibrant research area with broadening applications and new emerging challenges. In recent years, bioinformatics and computational biology have experience significant advances driven by computational techniques in bioinformatics. The BICoB conference seeks original and high quality papers in the fields of bioinformatics, computational biology, systems biology, medical informatics and the related areas. 2. I-CORE in Algorithms and the Simons Institute for the Theory of Computing in Berkeley - a joint postdoctoral program

I-CORE Algo – Israeli Center of Research Excellence in algorithms, and the Simons Institute for the Theory of Computing are seeking excellent candidates for a joint postdoctoral program starting in the academic year 2015-2016.

The Israeli Center of Research Excellence in Algorithms is part of the I-CORE program, initiated by the Government of Israel and adopted by Israel's Council of Higher Education, in order to reinforce Israel's intellectual capacities and promote synergy among Israel's leading research centers. The members of the center are some of Israel's most exceptional computer scientists, from The Blavatnik School of Computer Science in Tel Aviv University, The Rachel and Selim Benin School of Computer Science and Engineering in The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science in Weizmann Institute of Science.

The Simons Institute for the Theory of Computing is an exciting new venue for collaborative research in theoretical computer science and related fields. The Institute is housed in a dedicated building on the UC Berkeley campus, and acts as a vibrant and welcoming environment for visiting researchers. In each academic semester the activities of the Institute are largely focused on specific research programs, each of which attracts thirty to forty participants ranging from senior scientists to graduate students. The Simons Institute for the Theory of Computing was created in 2012 through a ten-year grant from the Simons Foundation (more information can be found at: http://simons.berkeley.edu/fellows2015).

The joint postdoctoral position would start in Fall 2015. The joint post-doctoral fellow will first spend a semester (Fall 2015) at the Simons Institute, and then will continue at the I-Core in Algorithms for the remainder of the academic year. The topics of the research programs for Fall 2015 in the Simons Institute are Algorithmic Challenges in Genomics" and "Counting Complexity and Phase Transitions".) The topics of research in I-CORE in Algorithms include (but are not limited to): all variety of algorithms (optimization, online, streaming, approximation, randomized, geometric and more), cryptography, security and privacy, algorithmic game theory, quantum computing, networking and distributed computing, databases, machine learning and computer vision. The research interests of potential candidates should match the research interests of both institutions.

Salaries and benefits are competitive and assistance with visas and housing will be provided.
We particularly encourage applications from outstanding women and minority candidates. In addition, the I-CORE in Algorithms would provide some support to travel to and from Israel.
In some circumstances, the fellowship maybe be awarded for more than one year, up to a maximum of two years.

3. Leonardo Fibonacci fellowships - a joint postdoctoral program of I-CORE Algo, CNR and ENEA
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I-CORE Algo – the Israeli Center of Research Excellence in algorithms, CNR – the National Research Council of Italy and ENEA – the Italian National agency for new technologies, Energy and sustainable economic development are seeking excellent candidates for postdoctoral fellowships.

The joint program is supported by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and one of its objectives is strengthening the bi-national cooperation in science and technology between Italy and Israel, under the auspices of the Italian-Israeli Agreement on Industrial, Scientific and Technological Cooperation. CNR and ENEA participate in the program to help open new paths towards excellence for young researchers, some of whom will eventually join the Italian research system.

The Leonardo Fibonacci fellowships are named after the Italian mathematician Leonardo Fibonacci, arguably the greatest European mathematician of the middle ages.

I-CORE Algo is part of the I-CORE program, initiated by the Government of Israel and adopted by Israel's Council of Higher Education in order to reinforce Israel's intellectual capacities and promote synergy among Israel's leading research centers. The members of the center are some of Israel's most exceptional computer scientists, from The Blavatnik School of Computer Science in Tel Aviv University, The Rachel and Selim Benin School of Computer Science and Engineering in The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science in Weizmann Institute of Science.

SELECTION PROCESS
Researches of any nationality can apply to the program, given that they obtained their PhD (Dottorato di Ricerca) from an institution in Italy no longer than 2 years before the date of the application, or will obtain it within 3 months after the application. EU nationals can apply independently of where they have obtained their degree, within the same temporal frame. Equal opportunity is a principle underlying the whole selection process.

Key criteria for the selection will be

1. the scientific potential of the candidates, as assessed by their academic record and thesis, by publications, if any, by previous research experience and by any previous awards and honors.

2. the expected benefits of the fellowship for the trainees, as indicated also by a short research statement (or tentative project) submitted with the application.

Reference letters are requested from at least three recommenders and will contribute to assess both criteria.

The Fellowships will be awarded initially for a period of up to twelve months, and they may be prolonged, after consideration, within the same program or other programs of the I-CORE center.
The Leonardo Fibonacci fellows will perform their postdoctoral research in one of the I-CORE in Algorithms institutions. Salaries and benefits are competitive and assistance with visas and housing will be provided.

The selection Committee (3 members, from the CNR, the I-CORE in Algorithms and the Embassy of Italy in Israel) will choose between applicants, on the basis of the above criteria.

The selected candidates will submit a brief activity report to the Committee every three months.

RESEARCH SCOPE

The topics of research in I-CORE in Algorithms include (but are not limited to): all variety of algorithms (optimization, online, streaming, approximation, randomized, geometric and more), cryptography, security and privacy, algorithmic game theory, quantum computing, networking and distributed computing, databases, machine learning and computer vision.

The selected candidates will be able to choose which of the center members will be their advisor.

Overview

Continuous optimization is a highly interconnected field, having close
relationships to the other areas of OR, with scientific computing and
numerical analysis, and with numerous application areas. In order to
promote academic communication and cooperation between Chinese and
European researchers and practitioners in the field of continuous
optimization, Operations Research Society of China (ORSC) and the
Association of European Operational Research Societies (EURO) will
organize the Joint ORSC/EURO International Conference 2015 on
Continuous Optimization during May 10-12, 2015. Dr. Xiaodong Hu (the
President of ORSC) and Dr. Gerhard Wäscher (President of EURO) are
co-chairs of the conference, Dr. Yuhong Dai (President of the Math
Programming Subsociety of ORSC) and Dr. Julius Zilinskas (Chair of
EUROPT Managing Board) are the co-chairs of program committee and Dr.
Yanqin Bai (Shanghai University, Shanghai) and Dr. Gerhard-Wilhelm
Weber (Middle East Technical University, Ankara) are the co-chairs of
organization committee.

Full papers could be submitted after the conference to the special
issue of Journal of the Operations Research Society of China to be
published by the end of 2015.
