* Aims:

The purpose of this conference is to highlight the major advances in the field and the development of new tools, to support the development of theory and applications of CA and DCS, and to identify and study within an inter- and multidisciplinary context the important fundamental aspects, concepts, notions and problems concerning CA and DCS. 


* Venue:

The workshop is organized by the Department of Mathematics of University Center of Exact Sciences and Engineering of the University of Guadalajara, in the city of Guadalajara, Mexico. 


* Topics (not exhaustive):

    dynamic, topological, ergodic and algebraic aspects of CA and DCS
    algorithmic and complexity issues
    emergent properties
    formal languages
    symbolic dynamics
    tilings
    models of parallelism and distributed systems
    synchronous versus asynchronous models
    phenomenological descriptions and scientific modelling
    applications of CA and DCS

* Paper categories

There are two categories of submission – full papers and exploratory papers. Full papers are meant to report more complete and denser research, while exploratory papers are meant to be short reports of recent discoveries, work-in-progress or partial results. Submissions of full papers are refereed and selected by the program committee. Exploratory papers go through a less rigorous evaluation process. All accepted papers must be presented at the conference.

Accepted full papers will appear in the proceedings published by Springer in the Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) series. Exploratory papers will not be included in the LNCS proceedings, but in local proceedings that will be distributed at the workshop.

A special issue in a journal consisting of extended versions of the papers will be arranged.

Optimisation

The Dalle Molle Institute for Artificial Intelligence

the areas of Machine Learning and Combinatorial
Optimisation, with applications to optimisation problems
in transportations and logistics.

Duties
- Research work on the application of state-of-the-art
Machine Learning and Deep Learning techniques to
Optimisation problems
- Development of methods in the fast-evolving field of
Machine/Deep Learning for applications in the field of
Optimisation for real logistic problems. (In both fields,

several projects already)

Internet of Things (IoT) is a paradigm that enables various machines,
physical devices, and objects, denoted as things, to interact
ubiquitously and autonomously such that our surroundings can be
monitored and controlled towards the betterment of human life. A
surrounding can be a home, office, shop, factory floor, even roads.
Thus, the betterment of human life can have different facades in
different situations. The concept has now further been extended to
Industry 4.0 and Tactile Internet, which are acting as catalysts to the
evolution of a new generation of services expected to have an immense
impact on the social and technological eco-system. It can be envisaged
that these next-generation systems and services will encompass several
domains such as e-Governance, Manufacturing, Retail, Health Care,
Transportation, Waste Management, Food Supply Chains, Energy &
Utilities, Insurance, etc. New technologies and applications built on
top of them must be developed in order to fulfill this vision of
Intelligent Infrastructure and Industry 4.0. The evolving Internet
concept poses a number of new challenges and opportunities for
computing, networking, data management and analytics due to the large
scale and complexity of such systems, and heterogeneity of the things
and networks, constrained by limited resources of the things and the
network and the requirement of extreme low latency in both computation
and communication.

The authors of the top-notch contributions (from 3 to 6 papers, including

JELIA 2019 welcomes submissions of long or short papers in the following
categories:

Regular papers. Submissions should contain original research, and
sufficient detail to assess the merits and relevance of the contribution.
Submissions must not have been previously published or be simultaneously
submitted for publication elsewhere.

System/Application descriptions. Submissions should describe an
implemented system/application and its application area(s). A
demonstration should accompany a system/application presentation. Papers
describing systems or applications that have already been presented in
JELIA before will be accepted only if significant and clear enhancements
have been implemented and are properly reported.

All submissions should not exceed 13 (resp., 6) pages for long (resp.,
short) papers, including figures etc., but excluding references, and
should be written in English. Submissions must be formatted according to
the standard Springer LNCS style, and are not anonymous. The conference
proceedings of JELIA 2019 will be published by Springer-Verlag in the
Lecture Notes in Artificial Intelligence, a sub-series of Lecture Notes in
Computer Science (Important note: Springer will require all the LaTeX
source files of all accepted submissions).

== POLICY ON MULTIPLE SUBMISSIONS ==

JELIA 2019 will not accept any paper that, at the time of submission, is
under review or has already been published or accepted for publication in
a journal or another conference. Authors are also required not to submit
their papers elsewhere during JELIA's review period. However, these
restrictions do not apply to previous workshops with a limited audience
and without archival proceedings.

[DMANET] Faculty Positions in the Department of Industrial and Operations Engineering at the University of Michigan (second call)

The Department of Industrial and Operations Engineering at the University
of Michigan invites applications and nominations for faculty positions
beginning September 2019.

We seek outstanding candidates for faculty positions at all ranks. We will
be considering candidates in all areas of Industrial and Operations
Engineering including Operations Research, Analytics, Data Science, Human

The authors should submit an extended abstract not exceeding 10 pages,
including figures, title, authors, affiliations, e-mail addresses, and a
short abstract. The authors are required to use the LaTeX style file

At least one author of an accepted paper is expected to present the

19, 2017. Danny had a great impact in our scientific community, both

[DMANET] 8th edition of the Winter School on Network Optimization (third announcement)

The 8th edition of the Winter School on Network Optimization will take place at Hotel Estoril-Éden, Monte Estoril, from the 14th to the 18th of January 2019. Its main objective is to provide an opportunity for PhD students to get together and attend high level courses in the field of Network Optimization. Non-PhD students are welcome to attend the school, but the number of participants is limited and priority will be given to PhD students. In this edition of the school, the lecturers and subjects to be addressed are:

Special issue of the EURO Journal on Computational Optimization on Bilevel Optimization

Bilevel Programming is a fairly recent branch of optimization that deals with programs whose constraints embed an auxiliary optimization problem. Bilevel programs are pervasive and are commonly found in a number of real-world problems. This includes problems in the domains of transportation, energy, economics, decision science, environmental economics, etc. Efficient exact or approximate solution algorithms for such problems must exploit the structure of the problems at hand.

The aim of the special issue is to invite high-quality manuscripts addressing bilevel optimization problems and presenting convincing numerical results.

Possible topics include, but are not restricted to:

• Linear, convex, nonlinear, mixed integer bilevel optimization

• Equilibrium problems

• Stackelberg games

• Energy applications

• Transportation and location applications

• Pricing problems

• Interdiction and fortification problems.

Following the journal high standards, we expect high quality contributions that will undergo the strict reviewing process of EJCO.

Workshop Scope

The workshop invites original work concerning all aspects of
metaheuristics and heuristic problem solving, in particular:

• Theory and applications of metaheuristics such as
Evolutionary Algorithms, GRASP, Iterated Greedy,
Iterated Local Search, Large Neighborhood Search,
Scatter Search, Simulated Annealing, Swarm Algorithms,
Tabu Search, and Variable Neighborhood Search
• New algorithmic developments
• Hybrid approaches
• Mathematical programming based approaches, e.g. Matheuristics
• Constraint programming based approaches
• Parallel metaheuristics
• Machine learning and simulation
• Data driven modeling and prediction
• Simulation based heuristic optimization
• Applications of simulation based soft computing
• Applications in combinatorial optimization, bio-and medical
informatics, networks and telecommunications, logistics,
scheduling, and transportation

PAPER SUBMISSION

An extended two-pages abstract, including references, with indication
of the workshop (Theory and Applications of Metaheuristic Algorithms)
must be submitted at http://eurocast2019.fulp.ulpgc.es by *November 15,
2018*.
Please follow the author instructions for Springer Lecture Notes on Computer
Science Series (LNCS). Authors will be notified of acceptance
around December 1, 2018.

After the conference full papers will be invited and accepted ones will
be published in a *post-conference volume*. It is anticipated that these
final papers will be published in line with prior Eurocast meetings in
the Springer LNCS Series. These full papers will have to be submitted by
*April 30, 2019*.
