Postdoctoral Position in Algorithms at University of Warsaw
Background:
A postdoctoral position in the area of algorithms in the Department of
Mathematics, Informatics and Mechanics at University of Warsaw under
the guidance of Prof. Piotr Sankowski is currently open. The position
is supported by the PAAl Project (ERC Starting Grant 259515: Practical
Approximation Algorithms).
The PAAl Project aims to develop and study practical approximation
algorithms. Our study is based on theoretical models that can describe
requirements for algorithms to make them practically efficient. A
useful programming library of approximation algorithms shall be
developed. The strength and originality of this project are based on
the combination of theoretical and practical research. The project is
executed in cooperation with Prof. Stefano Leonardi from Sapienza
University of Rome. More detailed information about the research
project can be found at http://paal.mimuw.edu.pl.
Job profile:
All candidates with strong qualifications in algorithmic research are
encouraged to apply and will be carefully considered. Applicants
should have a PhD degree or be close to completing it. Knowledge of
Polish language is not required, but a good knowledge of English is
essential. We offer excellent networking and training opportunities,
including participation in international workshops, short research
stays at other partner organizations and attendance of international
conferences.
Successful candidates can start after September 2012 (negotiable).
Funding is available for up to two years and different durations are
possible. Salary will be commensurate with experience and levels of
accomplishment starting from 40 000 Euro per annum. No teaching
responsibilities are associated with this position.
Institution:
The Institute of Informatics of University of Warsaw is the leading
research institute in this field in Poland. Institute of Informatics
was formed in 1975, unifying foundational and experimental research on
programming languages. Today it employs around 50 faculty members and
trains, more than 60 PhD students. The research goals comprise basic
work in computer science, especially algorithms, logic, and
specification theory, as well as various aspect of software
engineering and several interdisciplinary topics, in particular
bioinformatics. The Algorithmic Analysis Group, who is realising the
project, is the largest research group in our department and includes
many exceptional young scientists.
Your application:
Applications in English (including Curriculum Vitae, list of
publications, research plan, names of references with their e-mail
addresses, and intended period of stay) should be submitted per e-mail
