Job Openings: Tenure Track Assistant Professors
(Research Area: Computer Science)

The University of Electro-Communications (UEC) invites applications for Tenure Track Assistant Professors.

In this tenure track system, the term of employment is five years from the start of the employment. During this period, newly employed assistant professors will receive an interim review in the third year of their employment, followed by a tenure review in the fifth year of the employment, and if their track record on research and other relevant factors are recognized to be exceptionally superior, they will be awarded the tenured status (i.e., guaranteed employment until the mandatory retirement) from the university as well as the promotion to associate professorship.

3. Fields of specialty
Discrete Algorithms and Big-Data Theory: e.g., graph-network algorithms; approximation, randomized, sublinear-time, streaming, or online algorithms; complex networks; data structures; mathematical programming; computational complexity; etc. Applicants who study in the above fields from the viewpoint of theoretical computer science are preferable.

5.Eligibility for application
1) Applicants must possess a doctorate degree by the date of employment and must be advanced in research in the above fields.
2) Applicants must be capable of conducting independent, creative research.
3) The doctorate degree must be one that was obtained in the last 10 years.
4) Postdoctoral experience or equivalent is preferable.
5) Applicants are expected to be capable of guiding students in Japanese.

6. Start of employment
April 1, 2016 (or later at the earliest possible date.)
