[DMANET] PhD position at the University of French Guyana

PhD position in Computer Science
Title: Cellular Automata Algorithm for flooding risks
Location: University of French Guyana https://www.univ-guyane.fr/
Laboratory: UMR Espace-Dev http://www.espace-dev.fr/
Starting date: October 2017

Description:
We announce a PHD position in computer science at the University of French Guyana. The subject is within the context of numerical modeling and simulation of complex processes. It particularly relates to the flood phenomena, major risk on French Guyana territory, but also in Europe and throughout the world. The approach is based on cellular automata which offer a powerful computing environment. A set of local transition rules encodes the system evolution on a grid or on a graph, that leads to some global properties about complex systems. The designed model will be a basis to study control problems - characterization of vulnerable areas - and to identify strategies for the protection of those vulnerable areas.

We are looking for qualified candidates with a Master's degree in Computer Science or Applied Mathematics or equivalent. A solid background on one the following fields is highly recommended: Numerical computation, Parallel programming and Spatio-temporal systems. French language is not required but applicants must fluently speak and write in English.

To apply, please contact Samira El Yacoubi (yacoubi@univ-perp.fr<mailto:yacoubi@univ-perp.fr>) and Allyx Fontaine (allyx.fontaine@univ-guyane.fr<mailto:allyx.fontaine@univ-guyane.fr>) including a CV and a letter of motivation. The deadline is May 31st.
