[DMANET] PhD position Deep learning for detecting ALS risk factors

Dear colleagues,

The department of Econometrics & Operations Research at Tilburg University is looking for a PhD student. The student will develop deep learning based approaches to understand the complex genetic basis of ALS. He or she will be able to make use of a large database containing the genome sequencing data of tens of thousands of ALS patients and control individuals. The project will be in collaboration with Jan Veldink from UMC Utrecht who leads Project MinE, a major international effort on collecting genome data for studying ALS. The student will be co-supervised by prof. dr. Alexander Schoenhuth (University of Bielefeld).

We are looking for a student with a strong background in computer science, mathematics, AI or a related field, and with interest in genetics. Detailed information can be found at https://www.tiu.nu/16650, or by emailing to m.balvert@tilburguniversity.edu<mailto:m.balvert@tilburguniversity.edu>.

Best regards,

Marleen Balvert
Assistant professor in Operations Research
