[DMANET] PhD position on Optimization and Geometry at TU Delft

The Delft University of Technology (TU Delft), in Delft, The Netherlands,
is offering a fully-funded (4 years) PhD position in the context of the
project "Optimization methods in extremal geometry". As a PhD student you
will be part of the optimization group (
https://www.tudelft.nl/en/eemcs/the-faculty/departments/applied-mathematics/optimization/)
and will be supervised by Dr. Fernando M. de Oliveira Filho.

In this project you will use optimization techniques such as semidefinite
programming to tackle geometrical problems such as the sphere-packing
problem. There will be plenty of time to explore your own ideas and
problems and to conduct independent research.

We are looking for candidates with a solid background in mathematics,
computer science, or a related field. You should be willing to learn more
about functional analysis, harmonic analysis, group representation theory,
and optimization, but previous knowledge or experience in these fields is
not required.

The position is fully funded for a period of 4 years and offers a
competitive salary; there are also generous funds for traveling and the
opportunity to take part in graduate courses in The Netherlands and abroad.
