[DMANET] Two PhD positions, University of Primorska, Slovenia

The Department of Mathematics at the Andrej Marusic Institute of the
University of Primorska has two open PhD positions in Mathematics.

The PhD positions are fully funded for four years.
The Starting date is October 1st, 2021.
The Deadline for the applications is July 8th 2021.

The candidates for PhD positions should have a Master's degree in
Mathematics (obtained by September 11th 2021 at the latest), a very
good knowledge of the English language, and should be of age up to 28
years (extension of this limit is possible in the case of using parental
leave in the past).

Short description of the two open PhD positions:

PhD position under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Marko Orel:
The work of the selected PhD candidate will be primarily performed
within the intersection of matrix theory and graph theory.
In matrix theory the emphasis is on matrices with coefficients from a
finite field and on preserver problems.
Related to graph theory, the research will involve graph homomorphisms
and cores.
Research tools also include graph spectrum, chromatic number of a graph
and related graph invariants.
The emphasis is on graphs that possess a certain degree of symmetry or
interesting combinatorial properties.

PhD position under the supervision of Prof. Vito Vitrih:
The selected PhD candidate will be particularly engaged in solving
mathematical problems that belong to the fields of Computer
Aided Geometric Design and Numerical Mathematics with an emphasis on
Approximation Theory and Partial Differential Equations, in particular
Isogeometric Analysis.
