[DMANET] Lecturer / Postdoc in Artificial Intelligence (100% or part-time)

We are searching for:

**Lecturer / Postdoc in Artificial Intelligence (100% or part-time)**
(Duration: 2 years, with the possibility of extension)

**About us:**
The Computation and Economics Research Group, led by Prof. Sven Seuken,
currently consists of one professor, one Postdoc, and six PhD students.
All group members have a strong background in mathematics/computer
science and work on AI, machine learning, and market design research
questions. Market design is a research field that combines techniques
from computer science, game theory, operations research, and other
fields to analyze and design real-world marketplaces. In our research
group, we study foundational market design questions from an
algorithmic/computational and game-theoretic perspective. Current group
members work on a variety of projects, including active learning in
combinatorial assignment problems, techniques for capturing model
uncertainty in neural networks, algorithms for finding equilibria in
auctions, and machine learning-powered preference elicitation in
combinatorial auctions, course allocation, drone traffic management, and
adoption marketplaces. We publish our research exclusively in top
international conferences (e.g., AAAI, IJCAI, EC) and journals (e.g.,
JAIR, JET, Management Science). In some projects, we also collaborate
with industrial partners such as Google Research and Microsoft Research.

**We offer:**
- a team of young and highly motivated colleagues who are passionate
about topics at the intersection of AI, machine learning, and game
theory (in particular: market design)
- a competitive salary of approximately 90,000 Euro per year and
generous social benefits
- generous support for professional travel and research needs
- strong support for your career development
- life in a cosmopolitan city that regularly ranks as one of the cities
with the highest quality of life in the world.

**About the position:**
We accept applications from all candidates with a PhD who have a strong
background in Artificial Intelligence. The successful candidate will
become a Postdoc/Lecturer at the Department of Informatics of the
University of Zurich (Switzerland's largest university) and will also be
affiliated with the ETH AI Center (one of the world's top places for
research on AI and machine learning). The UZH Department of Informatics
and the ETH AI Center are in 3 min walking distance from each other. The
candidate is free to conduct research on any topic, including the
continuation of existing research projects. The candidate is invited
(but not required) to join the ERC research project on "Machine
Learning-based Market Design" led by Prof. Sven Seuken. In terms of
teaching, the candidate is required to prepare and teach a new course
called "Introduction to Artificial Intelligence" (6 ECTS credits), once
per year. This course will be offered on the Bachelor's level at UZH;
the course will start on February 21, 2022. Therefore, experience in
teaching such a course (e.g., as a teaching assistant) is a required.
The exact topics to be covered in the course are still flexible.

**You have:**
- a PhD degree in computer science or a related field with a focus on
Artificial Intelligence
- a very good publication record in your field
- a passion for research in AI (interest or experience in game theory is
a plus, but not required)
- experience teaching a course on AI or machine learning (e.g., as a
teaching assistant)
- excellent communication skills in English (German speaking skills are
not necessary)

If you fit this profile and are passionate about research and teaching,
then we would love to hear from you. Women are particularly encouraged
to apply. To apply, please send an email with your CV and any other
relevant material to: seuken@ifi.uzh.ch

All applications received by December 6, 2021 will be considered.
Applications received afterwards will be considered until the position

not advanced to the interview round. The final hiring decision is
expected to be made until the end of December 2021. The position is
immediately available. The latest possible starting date is February 14,
2021. Further information about the research group is available online
at: http://www.ifi.uzh.ch/ce.
