SCOPE
------
Symbolic computation (SC) aims at providing algorithmic solutions to
problems dealing with symbolic objects such as terms, formulas,
programs, representations of algebraic objects, etc. Algorithms and
methods developed for the major subfields of SC (computer algebra,
computational logic, automatic programming) have found successful
applications in various areas.

From the beginning, SC was also considered a major approach to
"artificial intelligence", since the problems solved by SC, typically,
are problems that were considered hard for "human intelligence" (like
symbolic integration, theorem proving, SAT/SMT solving, program
verification, hardware verification, etc.).

Meanwhile, recent advances in artificial intelligence methods have
provided new exciting opportunities in science and industry, being more
and more integrated into most aspects of life. Machine learning (ML)
methods, developed in parallel to symbolic methods for solving hard
"artificial intelligence" problems, achieved spectacular results in
numerous applications in recent years.

This special issue is dedicated to the interaction of symbolic
computation and machine learning methods seen as the two major
approaches to "artificial intelligence". We expect dramatic advances
from a much closer interaction of the SC and the ML approaches to
artificial intelligence. This interplay is, in fact, essential in the
current scenario where the economy and society demand the development of
complex, data-intensive, trustable, and high-performant computational
systems that accompany humans in more and more facets of their daily life.

The special issue is organized as a follow-up of the 24th International
Symposium on Symbolic and Numeric Algorithms for Scientific Computing,
SYNASC 2022. Participants of the symposium, as well as other authors,
are invited to submit contributions. We welcome submissions describing
the interaction of SC and ML methods, techniques, and tools, and their
applications in AI.


SUBMISSION

This special issue welcomes high-quality contributions, including papers
with original research results as well as review articles. They will be
peer-reviewed using the standard refereeing procedure of the Journal of
Symbolic Computation.

[DMANET] PhD position at University of Kassel

We are looking for a PhD student who is or wishes to specialize in computational and applied discrete optimization. The position will be located in the Discrete Optimization group in the Department of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at the University of Kassel. The group's research focus is on combinatorial optimization, integer programming, network optimization, and scheduling and their application in practice. The tasks involve research service and independent scientific research leading towards a PhD degree in one of the groups research areas as well as teaching classroom exercises (also in German).

Candidates must hold a diploma/master's degree in mathematics or computer science and have solid background in discrete optimization or theoretical computer science and algorithmics. Good programming skills (e.g. C++, python or an equivalent programming language) and good command of German and English are required. Experience in teaching and in computational optimization are advantageous.

[DMANET] PhD position at the University of Bologna, Italy

Applications are invited for a PhD position in the Biomedical, Electrical and System Engineering programme at the University of Bologna, Italy.
The position will start on November 1, 2023 and will last 3 years.
The project is entitled "Re-optimization methods for real-time adjustments and human interaction" and is partially supported by DecisionBrain S.A.S. (https://decisionbrain.com/).
The PhD will be supervised by Dr. Filippo Focacci, prof. Andrea Lodi and prof. Michele Monaci, and will be inserted in the research team in DecisionBrain as well as in the Operations Research group at the University of Bologna. Candidates must be available for spending some research periods outside Italy and for attending international scientific schools, workshops and conferences.

The topic of the project is the use of mathematical optimization methods in operational contexts. Typically, in these situations, one is required the ability to update an optimized solution together with the ability to understand the consequences of such changes and to re-optimize. Changes may arise from events during execution (e.g., an action not executed as planned, disruptions due to external events), or from the availability of new/updated information, or from business users that want to amend the proposed solution.
The main goal of this PhD is to design methodologies and algorithms to effectively update optimized solutions by considering the changes that occurred. The PhD will specifically focus on problems where decisions are executed across a time dimension (e.g., planning, scheduling, routing types of problems). We envision the use of modern statistical learning methods to leverage data and their integration with discrete optimization techniques.

Candidates must have
-Academic degree: a master's degree in mathematics, computer science or management engineering;
-Strong knowledge of Operations Research (E.g. thesis written in Operations Research or a strongly related topic)
-Excellent Programming language skills (e.g. in C, C++, Java, Python …)
-Experience in the use of mathematical optimization solvers (e.g., CPLEX, Gurobi, Xpress)
-Proficiency in English

1) Job Description:

Mines Saint-Etienne is recruiting a research associate (renewable 1-year fixed-term contract) with a broad profile in data science techniques and operations research for applications in health.
The research will be conducted within the ODPS axis of LIMOS (www.limos.fr/AxeOdps).
Prior experience in the health field is not required at the beginning, but integration will revolve around topics supported by the members of the I4S department (www.mines-stetienne.fr/recherche/centres-et-departements/ingenierie-systemes-de-soins-services-de-sante-i4s/). There is no teaching load associated with the position, but teaching is possible, and involvement in co-supervising the Master of Science in Health Management and Data Intelligence (HMDI) is expected. ## SCOPE AND OVERVIEW

IEEE WoWMoM 2024 is soliciting original and previously unpublished papers addressing research challenges and advances in the areas of wireless, mobile, and multimedia networking as well as ubiquitous and pervasive systems and applications. Wireless networking technologies are continuously evolving and have become a critical part of modern life, be it for communication services, media distribution, or sensing and actuation services within the Internet of Things (IoT). Appropriate resource management, application design, and architectural networking paradigms are necessary to provide users with high quality experience in multimedia communication and services. Edge computing, machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) techniques are becoming essential tools to cope with the increasing diversity of connected devices and the plethora of new data-intensive and latency-sensitive applications. At the same time, the interoperability among IoT environments (including wearable computing and sensors), the network edge, and the cloud are evolving towards an IoT-edge-cloud continuum that is expected to support a wide range of application domains and services in a seamless and efficient manner. In this context, providing rich sets of measurements for characterizing and understanding the behavior of such complex systems is of paramount importance.

IEEE WoWMoM 2024 takes a broad view and seeks papers describing innovative research contributions to the field of mobile and wireless networking and applications. We solicit papers that present original work, validated by experimentation, simulation, or analysis. We also welcome practical experiences and experimental efforts from both industry and academia, duly documenting the lessons learned from testbeds, field trials, or real deployments.

## PAPER SUBMISSION AND PUBLICATION

Authors are invited to submit papers describing original, previously unpublished work not currently under review by another conference, workshop, or journal. Authors must make a good faith effort to anonymize their submissions. Specifically, the authors should not identify themselves in any content within the paper either directly or indirectly (e.g., through references). Where relevant, authors must refer to their previous work in the third person write as if it was written by a third party. However, authors should ensure that any anonymization of their work is not destructive. For instance, omission of references to papers just because they are the authors' previous work should be avoided, as this could prevent reviewers from finding that related paper for the purpose of the review. Submissions violating anonymization rules will not be considered for review.

Although submission is double-blind, non-anonymous preprints (on arXiv or other preprint servers) will not lead to the rejection of your paper. Reviewers will be instructed not to actively look for such preprints before completing a first read of your paper, but encountering them will not constitute a conflict of interest.

## REGULAR PAPERS

Regular papers submissions may be up to 10 pages in length (including figures and references), formatted in two-column IEEE conference style with font size 10 points or greater. ## WORK IN PROGRESS PAPERS

WIP (Work-in-progress) papers provide a peer-reviewed forum for late-breaking or preliminary research results, giving an opportunity for researchers and practitioners to present and demonstrate their recent research and obtain feedback from their peers in a poster session. Work-in-progress papers submissions may be up to 4 pages in length (including figures and references) and must have the prefix "WIP:" in the paper's title.

## ACCEPTED PAPERS

An author of an accepted paper is required to register for the conference at the full (member or non-member) rate. The paper must be presented by an author of that paper at the conference. Exceptions can be granted if compelling reasons are sent to the TPC Co-Chairs with a written request indicating an adequate substitute presenter before the conference. Accepted papers (both regular and WIP) will be included in the proceedings of IEEE WoWMoM 2024 which will be published through the IEEE Xplore digital library.

All conference proceedings must meet IEEE's quality standards, and IEEE reserves the right not to publish any proceedings that do not meet these standards. Furthermore, IEEE reserves the right to remove papers from IEEE Xplore that are not presented at the conference, for unjustified reasons.


## BEST PAPER AWARD

All accepted regular papers will be considered for the Best Paper Award. A committee will select three best paper candidates based on the reviews received and also the quality of presentation. Scope

The IPCO conference is a forum for researchers and practitioners working on various aspects of integer programming and combinatorial optimization. The aim is to present recent developments in theory, computation, and applications. The scope of IPCO is viewed in a broad sense, to include algorithmic and structural results in integer programming and combinatorial optimization as well as revealing computational studies and novel applications of discrete optimization to practical problems.
Authors are invited to submit extended abstracts of their recent work by November 6, 2023; see the submission guidelines below for more information. The Program Committee will select the papers to be presented on the basis of the submitted extended abstracts. Contributions are expected to be original, unpublished and not under review by journals or conferences with proceedings before the notification date (January 26, 2024). Papers violating these requirements will not be considered by the Program Committee.
During the conference, approximately 33 papers will be presented in single-track sessions. Each lecture will be 30 minutes long and given by one of the authors in person (on-site). The proceedings will be published as a volume of Springer Lecture Notes in Computer Science. They will contain extended abstracts of all accepted submissions. It is expected that revised and extended versions will subsequently be submitted for publication in appropriate journals, for example in the special issue of Mathematical Programming B that will be devoted to IPCO 2024.

Best Paper Award

IPCO will present a Best Paper Award, to be chosen by the Program Committee.

Submission Guidelines and Instructions for Authors

The extended abstract must not exceed 12 pages in Springer LNCS format, plus references. Please check the Springer Information for LNCS Authors for additional information. If necessary, an appendix containing additional technical material can be added and may be considered at the discretion of the Program Committee. Alternatively, authors are encouraged to include a link to a full version in a freely accessible online repository.
The first page should contain the title, the authors' names with their affiliations, and a short abstract. The introduction should be a broadly accessible exposition of the main ideas and techniques used to achieve the results, including motivation and a clear comparison with related work. In particular, the introduction should convey to the non-expert why the paper should be accepted to IPCO. Submitted extended abstracts will be reviewed according to the standards of top tier reviewed conferences. The main acceptance criteria used by the Program Committee are the quality and originality of the research, plus its interest to people working in the field. It is crucial that the importance of the work is understood by the committee. The claimed results must be correct and new.
A paper will not be considered in any of the following cases:
– It has already been published.
– It is under review by a journal or another conference with proceedings.
– It has a member of the Program Committee among its authors.
– It is submitted after the submission deadline.
It is not allowed to submit a paper that has been submitted to IPCO 2024 to a journal or a conference with proceedings before the notification date.

CALL FOR PRESENTATIONS
Re-thinking fundamental networking functions, their modeling and their performance evaluation in the framework of the evolving Internet and cellular networks, in the era of cloud and content providers, is a target for the ITC community. The PhD workshop aims at fostering contributions and fresh ideas from young researchers, pursuing their PhD or having just completed their PhD. Discussion of their PhD ideas and progress, proposition of research challenges and directions is welcome during a dedicated workshop.
TRAVEL GRANTS
The International Advisory Committee (IAC) of the ITC has decided to offer a number of travel grants (STG) that will be available to support full-time students for attending ITC 35th. The amount of each grant is EUR 600 that can be used to cover student travel expenses related to attending ITC 35th conference, such as student registration fee, airline ticket, and hotel accommodation expenses.
SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS
With respect to the presentation to be given during the Workshop, two contribution formats are solicited:

* more mature research works, in the form of a long presentation (up to 20 min each);
* short in-progress research work discussion, with a short presentation (up to 10 min each).
Correspondingly, Authors proposing a long presentation are invited to submit an extended abstract (max 3 pages plus references, using the same format as for regular contributions to the main conference). Extended abstracts will be published along with conference proceedings. The best contribution will be invited for submission as a full paper to be fast-track reviewed for potential publication in a journal (to be determined).

Authors proposing a short presentation are solicited to submit a title, list of Authors and a short abstract (up to 400 words), to help set up the workshop program.

IEEE CBDCom 2023 will be the 9th edition of the conference after the

We are pleased to invite you to participate in the Fourth Workshop on
Human-Centered Computational Sensing (HCCS'24)

the 22nd IEEE International Conference on Pervasive Computing and
Communications (PerCom'24) <http://percom.org/>in Biarritz, France, from
March 11-15, 2024.

The fourth edition of the Human-Centered Computational Sensing (HCCS'24)
Workshop at PerCom 2024 aims to advance and promote research about how
unobtrusive observations of human beings' cognitive, behavioral,
physiological, and contextual data are increasingly enabling new computing
experiences. The workshop will additionally stimulate dialog about the
implications of computational sensing for society. Traditionally, sensors
have been understood narrowly as physiological measurements often captured
with wearable devices. This workshop adopts a broader, human-focused view,
envisioning sensing as time-evolving measurable data directly linked to
individuals and, by extension, to their communities. With this
understanding, sensing involves human reactions and interactions observed
in spoken, written, or signed language, eye gaze, facial and bodily
expressions, social networks, geospatial patterns, and other such
human-generated data. Advances in multimodal human data acquisition and
fusion have the potential to significantly impact all areas of human life -
productivity, health and well-being, training and education, human-computer
interaction, accessibility, safety, and security, as well as gaming,
sports, and entertainment.

Authors are invited to submit technical or theoretical papers for
presentation at the workshop, describing original, previously unpublished
work, which is not currently under review by another workshop, conference,
or journal. Papers should present novel perspectives within the general
scope of the workshop.
Accepted workshop papers will be included and indexed in the IEEE digital
libraries (Xplore).
Papers may be no more than 6 pages in length. Authors can purchase one
additional page for the camera-ready version. Papers in excess of the page
limits will not be considered for review or publication. All papers must be
typeset in double-column IEEE format using 10pt fonts on US letter paper,
with all fonts embedded. The IEEE LaTeX and Microsoft Word templates, as
well as related information, can be found at the IEEE website.

Submission must be made via EDAS using https://edas.info/N31320.

It is a requirement that all the authors listed in the submitted paper are
also listed in EDAS. The author section of EDAS will be locked after the
workshop submission deadline to ensure that conflict-of-interest can be
properly enforced during the review process. If the list of authors differs
between the paper and EDAS, the paper may not be reviewed.
Each accepted workshop paper requires a full PerCom registration (no
registration is available for workshops only). Papers that are not
presented at the workshop will not be published in the proceedings.

A thematic month will be hosted at CIRM (Marseille, France) around discrete mathematics & computer science during February 2024. It will consists in 5 successive weeks as follows:
- week 1 (Jan 29 - Feb 2): introductory research school on all topics and their interactions;
- week 2 (Feb 5 - Feb 9): GAGTA, Geometric and Asymptotic Group Theory with Applications;
