**Subject: Digital Economy and e-Commerce Technology**

Operational Research (OR) tools have been extensively used in
traditional economy settings. Given the rapid emergence of Information
and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in any aspect of our lives,
applying OR tools to the Internet (or digital) economy, as well as
e-commerce technologies, seems to be extremely appealing. It is true
that, the success behind many companies of either the current or the
previous decade can be traced to OR embedded within their patented
algorithms (e.g., Google's Page Ranking algorithm, Amazon's Affiliate
program and i2's Supply Chain Execution Engine). Identification and
evaluation of the economic and technological impacts of ICTs and
e-commerce technologies can only be done by the means of scientific
models. Many research papers and scientific conferences have been
devoted to this direction. Following that, the objective of this special
issue of ORIJ is to present recent and considerable advances on the
following (but not limited to) issues:
- Optimization models of significant indices of the digital economy
and e-commerce technologies
- Analysis of the relationships between significant indices of the
digital economy and relevant indices of e-commerce technologies
- OR applications in the digital economy, as well as the use of
e-commerce technologies
- OR applications regarding the social networks and user-generated
content
- Optimization approaches for Recommendation Algorithms
- Optimization approaches for Internet Search
- Supply Chain Optimization
- Decision Support Technologies used or proposed in the fields of
digital economy and e-commerce (e.g., supporting e-auctions, price
negotiations, e-sourcing, etc.)
- Measurement models of the economic consequences of new technologies
upon the environment
- Measurement models regarding information security economics
- Measurement models of the digital divide
- Measurement models of e-government services
- Productivity and efficiency measurements in the digital economy
- Case studies in the fields of digital economy and e-commerce
technologies.

We are particularly interested in new measurement models of digital
economy and significant improvement techniques in e-commerce
technologies. Submitted papers should not have been previously published
nor be currently under consideration for publication elsewhere. All
submitted papers will be referred according to the editorial policy of
ORIJ (the paper is refereed by two anonymous reviewers and in case of
conflict by a third one).
