Applications and nominations are invited for the position of Chair of the Department of Computer and Information Sciences. The candidate's mission is to lead the department to international prominence while providing strategic vision and decisive leadership in research and education. Applicants are expected to have outstanding research accomplishments in computer and information sciences and a commitment to quality undergraduate and graduate programs and instruction.Applications from candidates with significant interdisciplinary interests are encouraged, and administrative experience at any academic level is an asset.
The selected candidate will be expected to lead our ongoing effort of building a strong research department, to advance our mission of high quality, personalized undergraduate and graduate instruction, to nurture interdisciplinary collaborations, and to work with the College and the University in advancing departmental strategic goals.
Recently celebrating its 50th year anniversary, CIS is one of the oldest computer science departments in the country and is experiencing tremendous growth both in research and academic programs. Over the last eight years, the CIS annual research revenue has grown more than four times, and both the undergraduate and graduate student enrollment almost tripled. CIS is among the top 60 computer science departments in the country based on the ARWU Shanghai ranking and among top 70 departments based on publication and citation measures. CIS offers a highly competitive salary and start-up package, low teaching load, and institutional support for an active doctoral program.
