[DMANET] PhD position: mathematical foundations of data science

Supported by a DFG project on "Message passing algorithms, information-theoretic thresholds and computational barriers", there is a

PhD studentship (3 years, E13 grade)

available at Goethe University Frankfurt in the group of Prof Amin Coja-Oghlan.

The project, which aims at the rigorous mathematical analysis of models and algorithms from data science,
deals with

- Bayesian inference and information-theoretic thresholds
- analysis of message passing algorithms such as Belief Propagation
- computational complexity and lower bounds
- theory of machine learning

The successful candidate will have a MSc degree in mathematics, computer science, statistics or a related discipline.

Proficiency in German is not a requirement as the position does not come with teaching obligations.

If you are interested, please apply by email to

Amin Coja-Oghlan <acoghlan@math.uni-frankfurt.de>

by Oct 23rd and include a CV as well as academic transcripts.
