Researcher/Post Doctoral Fellowship position


At the Institute of Mathematical Sciences, Chennai, India, there is a
vacancy for one to two positions as researcher/ post doctoral fellows. The
position is for a period of 2 years and is associated with an externally
funded project. These positions are within department of Theoretical
Computer Science through the SwarnaJayanti Fellowship of Prof. Saket
Saurabh.



About the department


The Department of Theoretical Computer Science has seven faculty members,
17 graduate students, and 4 post-docs

that deliver research and education at a high international level in
Automata, Logic, Concurrency and Formal Methods, Game Theory, Algorithms,
Random Graphs, Complexity Theory, Parameterized Complexity, Foundation of
Big-Data, Combinatorics, Quantum Computation and Quantum Information
Theory, and Programming Languages. The department offers state of art
education at PhD level.


About the project/work tasks


The successful candidate will conduct research within algorithmic framework
in any relevant area. The position is open for anyone working in following
areas of computer science: approximation algorithms, dynamic algorithms,
streaming algorithms, parameterized complexity, complexity theory, machine
learning algorithms and related fields.



Qualifications and personal qualities:


-- Applicants must hold a PhD or an equivalent in Computer Science,
Mathematics or must have submitted his/her doctoral thesis for assessment
prior to the application deadline.


-- Experience in algorithmic research is a requirement. It is a requirement
that the candidate must have demonstrated strength within algorithm with a
solid publication record at the top conferences such as STOC, FOCS, SODA,
ICALP, ESA, SoCG, PODC or equivalent top venues.


-- Applicants must be able to work independently and in a structured
manner, and have the ability to cooperate with others.


-- Applicants must have excellent skills in oral and written English


-- Personal and relational qualities will be emphasized. Research
experience, ambitions and potential will also count when evaluating the
candidates.
