It is our pleasure to invite you and your colleagues to present your
work at the Railways 2020: The 5th International Conference on Railway
Technology: Research, Development and Maintenance that will take place
in Palma, Mallorca, Spain, 7-10 September 2020
(www.railwaysconference.com).
In particular, we call your attention to the Special Session on 'Railway
Transport Design, Operations Planning/Management and Service
Optimization', which we are organizing and that we expect to provide a
forum to discuss the latest developments in this area. The focus of this
session is on solution techniques for combinatorial optimization
problems, which arise in railway systems. The main motivation for this
workshop is the observation that railway planning problems can be
extremely difficult to solve optimally with existing methods, while
doing so could result in huge gains, e.g., in terms of cost reductions
or service quality improvements. Topics of interest include, but are not
limited to:
> Network Design,
> Line Planning,
> Timetabling,
> Railway Track Allocation,
> Rolling Stock Planning,
> Shunting,
> Crew Scheduling,
> Re-Scheduling,
> Dispatching, and, Real-Time Management.
We invite you to contribute to this Special Session also.
The authors will have to submit short papers (1600 words) to present at
Railways 2020. Elsevier is organizing this conference series so, after
the conference, authors can submit full papers to the Journals
associated to the conference, namely:
> International Journal of Railway Technology
> Computers & Structures
> Computer Methods in Applied Mechanics and Engineering
> Journal of Rail Transport Planning & Management
> Computers & Fluids
> Advances in Engineering Software
The submission of a short paper to this Special Session is exactly the
same as the submission of a general one. During the submission process
you will be asked to select the session from a drop-down menu.
The deadline for submission is 15th January 2020. Please let us know if
you need more time.
For more information on the Conference topics, special sessions,
registration, travel and accommodation, please visit the conference
website.
We look forward to welcome you in Mallorca next September and we also
wish you and your families a Merry Christmas and a healthy start into
the New Year.
Yours sincerely,
Ralf Borndoerfer & Thomas Schlechte
