[DMANET] Four Associate Professors Positions in St.Petersburg

(please spread among your colleagues)

Four Positions in St.Petersburg

The St.Petersburg State University invites applications for four associate
professorships within the new Department of Mathematics and Computer Science.

As some of the teaching is in English, knowledge of Russian is optional.

The salary scale for Associate Professors (Docents) is 180 372 RUB per month

The undergraduate program at the St. Petersburg State University is
very selective, with students being some of the best in the world.
In particular, over the last five years, more winners of the all-Russian
mathematical Olympiad joined our program than any other similar program
in Russia. In addition, a graduate (master's) program has started in 2019,
open both to Russian and international students. Graduate courses are taught
in English. The well-known Chebyshev Laboratory (http://chebyshev.spbu.ru/en/)
is a part of our new Department.

Applicants are expected to have a strong research record and to be able to
teach in English. Appointees are expected to carry out research of high level,
to teach well, and to perform customary administrative duties such as advising
students, participating in committees, organizing admissions, etc. The teaching
load is up to 8 academic hours (=6 astronomic hours) per week. Initial contract
is normally signed for a period of up to five years, and can be renewed by
further 5 year terms.

The minimum requirements for the positions are as follows:
- the degree of Ph. D. (foreign) or Cand. Sci. (Russian);
- at least four refereed publications indexed simultaneously in MathSciNet and Scopus in 2014-2019;
- at least three years of experience in research or teaching (excluding Ph.D. studies but including work on research projects/grants, even unpaid).
All areas of mathematics and theoretical computer science will be considered,
with preference given to candidates working in probability, mathematical physics,
mathematical logic or theoretical computer science.

The details of the formal application procedure can be found at https://hr.spbu.ru/konkursy-na-zameshchenie-dolzhnostej-professorsko-prepodavatelskogo-sostava/31516-matematika-i-kompyuternye-nauki-09-12-2019.html

In addition to the formal application submitted according to the above document,
all applicants are invited to send a copy of their CV to Alina Zagorodnyuk
(chebyshev.msc@gmail.com) mentioning any detail that could be relevant to the
work of the selection committee, such as, for instance, the names of PhD
students they supervised, if any, etc.

Applications and questions on formalities should be sent to personnel officer
Aurelia Smorodintseva. Less formal questions should be sent to Alina Zagorodnyuk
(chebyshev.msc@gmail.com) who can also provide templates for the formal
documents to be submitted to the personnel officer, so we recommend to contact
Alina first and then send the official application.

Please check that your documents are processed normally by visiting https://hr.spbu.ru/konkursy-na-zameshchenie-dolzhnostej-professorsko-prepodavatelskogo-sostava/31516-matematika-i-kompyuternye-nauki-09-12-2019.html a couple of days after sending them.

Deadline: 17:00 MSK, February 14, 2020. Teaching starts: September 1, 2020.

Our staff appounted in the previous application campaigns includes
Yurii Lyubarskii (complex analysis, Norwegian University of Science and
Technology), Vladimir Peller (operator theory, Michigan State University),
Elena Arseneva (Khramtcova) (computational geometry, Universite Libre de
Bruxelles), Alexander Okhotin (theoretical computer science, University of
Turku), Saswata Shannigrahi (combinatorics, Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati).
The Scientific Council of Department includes Stanislav Smirnov,
Sergei Kislyakov, Sergei Ivanov, Edward A. Hirsch.
