[DMANET] PhD position in Algorithm Configuration (ML, OR, Algorithms)

Do you want to do a PhD involving machine learning, optimization and
algorithms?

My group, the chair of Decision and Operation Technologies at Bielefeld
University in Germany, has an open PhD position to be filled in the
first half of 2021. The position is a 100% TV-L E13 position over 3
years, which is German bureaucrat speak for a full-time position, and
one of the best paid PhD positions internationally.

The position involves in creating new algorithm configuration techniques
using bandit approaches. The position is a part of the project EKAmBa
(whatever that means) and will work closely with Prof. Eyke Hüllermeier
at Paderborn University. Moreover, the position is within of a research
training group spanning multiple universities in Northrhein Westfalia,
meaning you will have the opportunity to interact and collaborate with
many PhD students and research groups.

Bielefeld Unversity is situated between the city and the Teutoburg
forest, offering the convenience of Germany's 18th largest city combined
with easily accessible hiking and biking trails. Bielefeld University's
unique architecture (voted Germany's ugliest university by vice
magazine) is one of Europe's largest structures, and is extremely
functional, allowing for collaboration and community that will resume
once the pandemic is over.
