[DMANET] Winter School and Workshop on Polytopes 2025 in Osnabrück

Dear colleagues,

we would like to draw your attention to a

Winter School and Workshop on Polytopes 2025

taking place at the University of Osnabrück on February 24-28, 2025.

The event consists of a 2-day winter school (February 24 and 25) and a 3-day workshop (February 26 – 28).

The school consists of three minicourses (three hours each) on general polytopes (by Vincent Pilaud,  Universitat de Barcelona), lattice polytopes  (by Katharina Jochemko, KTH Stockholm) and probabilistic aspects of polytopes (by Florian Besau, TU Wien). Invited speakers of the workshop are

In the last decade, the growth of the Internet and other web technologies have driven fast developments of various networking technologies that are becoming primary parts of our daily lives. The wealth of existing algorithms and architectures for parallel and distributed computing combined with the proliferation of future wireless technologies and electronic devices resulted in a fast-growing adoption of future networks and highly decentralized systems. Future networks and distributed systems research is an interdisciplinary research field involving academic researchers in computer science, communication engineering, physics and social and behavioral studies, as well as information technology industry consultants and practitioners to support multiservice, multimedia services convergence, service ubiquity and context awareness, mobility, fixed-mobile convergence, variable connectivity, quality of service, spontaneous and autonomic networking and other capabilities.

The 2024 International Conference on Future Networks and Distributed Systems (ICFNDS 2024) aims at addressing advances in research on distributed systems and future networks, covering topics ranging from enabling technologies to emerging applications and industrial experiences. ICFNDS aims to encourage both researchers and practitioners to exchange and share their experiences and recent studies in an interactive atmosphere.

The 2023 ICFNDS meeting was held in Dubai, UAE. The 2022 ICFNDS meeting was held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. The 2021 ICFNDS meeting was held online due to the pandemic. The 2020 ICFNDS meeting was held in St. Petersburg, Russia. The 2019 ICFNDS meeting was held at The University of Paris Sud, France. The 2018 ICFNDS meeting was held at The Middle East University, Amman, Jordan. The 2017 ICFNDS meeting was held at The Møller Centre, Churchill College, University of Cambridge, Cambridge, UK.

Authors are solicited to contribute original, unpublished contributions in all aspects of future networking and distributed systems. Submitted articles must not be concurrently considered elsewhere for publication.

When a paper is accepted at least one of the authors has to register for the conference and deliver the related talk.

[DMANET] CFP- ICICIP2025, Muscat, Oman, February 6-11, 2025

The 13th International Conference on Intelligent Control and Information
Processing (ICICIP2025) will be held in Muscat, Oman, February 6-11, 2025,
following the successes of previous events. As the capital of Oman, Muscat
is Oman's largest city with a population of over four million people and
numerous tourist attractions. ICICIP2025 aims to provide a high-level
international forum for scientists, engineers, and educators to present the
state of the art of research and applications in related fields. The
conference will feature plenary speeches given by world-renowned scholars,
regular sessions with broad coverage, special sessions focusing on popular
topics, and post-conference workshops/tutorials in the region.

Prospective authors are invited to contribute high-quality papers to
ICICIP2025. In addition, proposals for special sessions within the
technical scopes of the symposium are solicited. Special sessions, to be
organized by internationally recognized experts, aim to bring together
researchers in special focused topics. Papers submitted for special
sessions are to be peer-reviewed with the same criteria used for the
contributed papers. Researchers interested in organizing special sessions
are invited to submit formal proposals to ICICIP2025. A special session
proposal should include the session title, a brief description of the scope
and motivation, names, contact information, and brief biographical
information on the organizers.

Authors are invited to submit either an abstract only or full-length papers
(8 pages maximum) by the submission deadline through the online submission
system. Potential organizers are also invited to enlist five or more papers
with cohesive topics to form special sessions. The submission of a paper
implies that the paper is original and has not been submitted under review
or is not copyright-protected elsewhere and will be presented by an author
if accepted. All submitted papers will be refereed by experts in the field
based on the criteria of originality, significance, quality, and clarity.
The authors of accepted papers will have an opportunity to revise their
papers and take consideration of the referees' comments and suggestions.
All accepted papers will be submitted for inclusion into IEEE Xplore
subject to meeting IEEE Xplore's scope and quality requirements. Selected
high-quality papers will be included in several journal special issues.

SCOPE:

DeepLearn 2025 will be a research training event with a global scope aiming at updating participants on the most recent advances in the critical and fast developing area of deep learning. Previous events were held in Bilbao, Genova, Warsaw, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Guimarães, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Luleå, Bournemouth, Bari, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Porto.

Deep learning is a branch of artificial intelligence covering a spectrum of current frontier research and industrial innovation that provides more efficient algorithms to deal with large-scale data in a huge variety of environments: computer vision, neurosciences, speech recognition, language processing, human-computer interaction, drug discovery, biomedicine and health informatics, medical image analysis, recommender systems, advertising, fraud detection, robotics, games, business and finance, biotechnology, physics experiments, biometrics, communications, climate sciences, geographic information systems, signal processing, genomics, materials design, video technology, social systems, earth and sustainability, etc. etc.

The field is also raising a number of relevant questions about robustness of the algorithms, explainability, transparency, interpretability, as well as important ethical concerns at the frontier of current knowledge that deserve careful multidisciplinary discussion.

Most deep learning subareas will be displayed, and main challenges identified through 18 four-hour and a half courses, 2 keynote lectures, 1 round table and a hackathon competition among participants. Renowned academics and industry pioneers will lecture and share their views with the audience. The organizers are convinced that outstanding speakers will attract the brightest and most motivated students. Face to face interaction and networking will be main ingredients of the event. It will be also possible to fully participate in vivo remotely.

DeepLearn 2025 will place special emphasis on large language models, foundation models and generative artificial intelligence.

ADDRESSED TO:

Graduate students, postgraduate students and industry practitioners will be typical profiles of participants. However, there are no formal pre-requisites for attendance in terms of academic degrees, so people less or more advanced in their career will be welcome as well.

Since there will be a variety of levels, specific knowledge background may be assumed for some of the courses.

Overall, DeepLearn 2025 is addressed to students, researchers and practitioners who want to keep themselves updated about recent developments and future trends. All will surely find it fruitful to listen to and discuss with major researchers, industry leaders and innovators.

DeepLearn 2025 will take place in Porto, the second largest city in Portugal, recognized by UNESCO in 1996 as a World Heritage Site. The venue will be:

STRUCTURE:

3 courses will run in parallel during the whole event. Participants will be able to freely choose the courses they wish to attend as well as to move from one to another.

All lectures will be videorecorded. Participants will be able to watch them again for 45 days after the event.

An open session will give participants the opportunity to present their own work in progress in 5 minutes. Also companies will be able to present their technical developments for 10 minutes.

The school will include a hackathon, where participants will be able to work in teams to tackle several machine learning challenges.

Full live online participation will be possible. The organizers highlight, however, the importance of face to face interaction and networking in this kind of research training event.

HACKATHON:

A hackathon will take place, where participants can work in teams to tackle several machine learning challenges. They will be coordinated by Professor Sergei V. Gleyzer (University of Alabama). The challenges will be released 2 weeks before the beginning of the school. A jury will judge the submissions and the winners of each challenge will be announced by August 25, 2025. The winning teams will receive a modest monetary prize and the runners-up will get a certificate.

The fifth edition of the Human-Centered Computational Sensing (HCCS'25)
workshop aims to advance and promote research on how unobtrusive
observations of human cognitive, behavioral, physiological, and contextual
data are increasingly enabling innovative computing experiences. The
workshop will also foster discussions about the societal implications of
computational sensing. Traditionally, sensors have been understood narrowly
as devices that capture physiological measurements, often through
wearables. This workshop adopts a broader, human-centric perspective,
envisioning sensing as time-evolving measurable data directly linked to
individuals and their communities. With this approach, sensing encompasses
human reactions and interactions observed through spoken, written, or

In connection with the 8th International Symposium on Combinatorial

Special Issue in Discrete Applied Mathematics

We are preparing a special issue of the journal Discrete Applied
Mathematics devoted to the
8th International Symposium on Combinatorial Optimization (ISCO 2024) that
was held in
Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain, 22-24 May 2024.

All interested researchers are invited to contribute their novel research
articles to this
special issue. Contributions arising from papers given at the symposium
should be
substantially extended, and should cite the conference paper where
appropriate.
Submissions of contributions not presented at the workshop are also welcome.

In the last decade, the increasing amount of data produced in the financial sector has focused the attention of scholars and practitioners on their application, using Big Data Analytics techniques and Artificial Intelligence (AI) models to address interesting economic questions. These analyses are increasingly used in the finance sector to deal with, but are not limited to, the following issues: (i) the actual economic problem involves lots of variables; (ii) the impact of the variables is highly nonlinear or involves interaction terms among the variables (high dimensionality of function class); and (iii) forecasting is economically more important than statistical inference.

Submission Guidelines

Authors are invited to submit English-language research and application papers representing original, previously unpublished work. Duplicate submissions are not allowed. Papers must be submitted as a single PDF document, via the Easychair system.

Submissions must conform to ACM format and should not exceed 8 pages with the option for up to 2 additional pages. Each paper will be double-blindly reviewed by at least three reviewers; this is an ACM requirement as SAC is a "Refereed Conference". Please adhere to this requirement when you prepare for your paper. Double-blindly means that the author of a paper does not know the reviewers of his/her paper and reviewers do not know the authors of the papers they reviewed.

One author of an accepted paper must register to SAC 2025 to have the paper published. Each accepted paper must be presented at the conference by one of the authors.

[DMANET] Two PhD Positions in Quantum Computing and Machine Learning

The Computer Science Department of Aalborg University offers two
prestigious PhD scholarships in the field of quantum computing, funded
by DeiC and Villum Foundation.

The PhD projects propose to combine formal methods with machine learning
techniques to verify existent and synthesize novel quantum circuits.
Potential applications will include quantum chemistry and quantum
optimization.

The candidates should have a strong background in at least one of the
following areas: quantum computing, machine learning, formal methods.

[DMANET] Joint CFP for Workshop Papers at ACM/IFIP Middleware 2024

Dear Middleware researchers,

We invite submissions for four workshops to be held alongside the ACM Middleware 2024 conference, taking place from December 2 to 6 at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong. The workshops will explore cutting-edge topics in middleware technology, including container management, digital twins, computing continuum, and serverless computing.
