[DMANET] Call for Papers - INFORMS Journal on Data Science Special Issue "The Dual Edge of AI: Catalyzing and Challenging the Future of Energy Systems"

Call for Papers - INFORMS Journal on Data Science Special Issue

Virtual Special Issue on "The Dual Edge of AI: Catalyzing and Challenging the Future of Energy Systems"

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is revolutionizing energy systems-empowering forecasting, optimization, and intelligent control-while simultaneously introducing new challenges, such as increased energy demands from large-scale AI infrastructure and concerns about long-term sustainability and equity.

We are excited to announce a Virtual Special Issue in the INFORMS Journal on Data Sciencefocused on this dual role of AI in energy. This issue seeks high-impact research at the intersection of AI and energy systems that critically examines both the opportunities and trade-offs of AI technologies.

We welcome theoretical, empirical, and methodological contributions across a broad range of topics, including but not limited to:

* AI for forecasting, optimization, and grid resilience

* Human-centered and explainable AI in energy operations

* Energy demands and risks driven by AI proliferation

* Sustainable and energy-efficient AI (Green AI)

* Societal, regulatory, and policy implications

Submission Deadline: May 1, 2026
Full CFP and submission details: https://pubsonline.informs.org/page/ijds/calls-for-papers

Submissions will be reviewed on a rolling basis and published in regular issues once accepted, with a unified editorial to enhance visibility and impact.

Please feel free to share with colleagues working in this exciting space!
