at the University of Montréal / HEC Montréal / ESG UQAM for three research
projects:
1) Synergies between recommendation systems and retail assortment
optimization, both on the application and on the methodological level. 1
Ph.D. (fully financed) and 1 post-doc position (1 year with possible
extension).
2) Demand-responsive transit systems: (a) improvement of the
decision-making process and (b) improvement of the solution methodology via
predictive methods. 1 Post-doc position (2 years).
3) Real-time optimal order placement strategies and limit order trading
activities. 1 Intern or post-doc position.
Students are expected to carry out top-level research. We are looking for
candidates with degrees in Computer Science, Operations Research, Applied
Mathematics, Statistics, or related fields. Candidates should have a
background in machine learning, operations research, or in both. Fluency,
or at least a willingness to learn about mathematical programming and
modern machine learning would be ideal. They should demonstrate good
programming and mathematical skills.
Student supervision depends on the projects and will be held jointly by
professors from the University of Montréal, HEC Montréal and ESG UQAM. All
professors involved are part of at least one of the following research
centers: the Montreal Institute of Learning Algorithms (MILA), the Canada
Excellence Research Chair in Data Science for Real-time Decision-Making
(CERC-DS4DM), and the Interuniversity Research Centre on Enterprise
Networks, Logistics and Transportation (CIRRELT). Students involved in the
first two projects will be part of those centers.
Montreal is a dynamic Metropolis, located in the province of Québec,
Canada. The city is bilingual (French/English) and known for its
international atmosphere. Montreal is known for being a vibrate research
environment, hosting 5 major universities and several research centers in
the domains of Operations Research and Machine Learning.
To apply, please send your application package (recent CV, name of two
references, recent grade records, and if applicable, your national
competition ranks) to sanjay.jena@cirrelt.ca, clearly indicating the
project(s) and position(s) you are applying to, as well as your possible
and preferred starting dates.
