available at the company DecisionBrain (https://www.decisionbrain.com),
in collaboration with the site or Gardanne (Provence, France) of the
Ecole des Mines de Saint-Etienne.
The two topics are summarized below.
. Production Planning Optimization. The objectives of the thesis are
multiple, and in particular (1) The study of lot sizing problems with
several dozens of resources in parallel, (2) The proposition of a
generic and modular approach that can deal with problems at different
levels of complexity, and (3) The integration into the proposed approach
of objectives or constraints helping to ensure the consistency of lot
sizing decisions with their operational implementation at the scheduling
level.
. Workforce Planning Optimization. This thesis aims at modeling and
solving complex workforce optimization problems at different decisions
levels, from strategic (workforce sizing) to real-time (workforce
allocation). Specific constraints such as qualifications of personnel,
travel times between tasks or different types of tasks need to be
considered. The robustness of plans to real-time events would have to be
studied.
The PhD students will be located in Paris, and will regularly visit the
Department "Manufacturing
Sciences and Logistics" located in Gardanne (south of France, between
Aix-en-Provence and Marseille) of the Ecole des Mines de Saint-Etienne.
The positions are for three years and should start as soon as possible.
Applicants must have a Master Degree (or equivalent) in Computer
Sciences, Applied Mathematics, Industrial Engineering or any related
discipline. Applicants should demonstrate good programming skills and
knowledge in combinatorial optimization. Experience on the development
of solution
methods for workforce or production planning problems would be appreciated.
Please send your application electronically (preferably as a single pdf
file) including a detailed curriculum vitae and examination results,
plus, if available, a list of reference letters and copies of diploma, to:
