Open Faculty Position at Kyushu University

The Faculty of Information Science and Electrical Engineering, Kyushu
University, invites applications for an Associate Professor position, as
described below.
1. Open Position
Tenure-track Associate Professor in data science and its foundations.
2. Research Division
Laboratory for Data Science Frontier Research (DSF Lab.), Department of
Informatics, Faculty of Information Science and Electrical Engineering
(ISEE), Kyushu University (744 Motooka, Nishi-ku, Fukuoka, 819-0395, Japan).

3. Research Area
Mathematical foundations of data science, such as machine learning,
statistics, data processing, information theory, algorithms,
optimization, etc., and their application to industry and sciences.
4. Job Description
* The successful candidate is expected to conduct research and
supervision of students in DSF Lab.
* He/she will also teach some courses in the ISEE, in Informatics Course
of the Department of Physics, and/or in the Department of Electrical
Engineering and Information Sciences.
* If he/she requests, the teaching load shall be reduced until March 2022.
* For start-up research expenses, 1 million JPY for the first year and
0.5 million JPY for the second year shall be provided, respectively.
5. Terms of Employment
This is a full time, five-year tenure-track appointment. We will conduct
a mid-way evaluation during the third year and a tenure evaluation on
the final year. If the outcome of the final evaluation is positive, the
candidate will be offered tenure until the mandatory retirement age of 65.
6. Compensation
Salary shall be paid in accordance with the relevant regulations
stipulated by Kyushu University.
7. Qualification
Candidates must have a Ph.D. degree.
8. Starting Date of Employment
As early as possible after October 1st, 2019.
