(the Fundamentals of Computer Science group of Prof. Dr. Florin MANEA) is
looking to fill as soon as possible the full-time position of a
Research Assistant (PhD Student) (all genders welcome)
Regular working hours will be 39,8 hours per week with a limited contract
of 36 months. Salary: Pay grade 13 TV-L. The possibility of obtaining a PhD
Degree is offered.
Your duties
- Work in the research area of the DFG-funded project Combinatorics of Word
Morphisms. Combinatorial pattern matching is the area of theoretical
computer science that is concerned with the study of combinatorial and
algorithmic properties of finite and infinite sequences of symbols (also
called words or strings). This field lies at the crossroads of algebra,
combinatorics, complexity theory, and algorithms theory, and has multiple
applications in data compression, cryptography, language theory, but also
bioinformatics or data mining. One of the core topics within this area is
the understanding of combinatorial and algorithmic properties of
word-morphisms. We propose the study of word-morphisms from two points of
view: algorithmic and mathematical.
- Communication and publication of the obtained research results in
scientific journals and international conferences.
- Supervision of student theses and the work of student assistants on
research questions resulting from the project.
Your profile
- Very good to good scientific degree (M.Sc. or equivalent) in computer
science or a comparable subject,
- Previous knowledge in combinatorics of words, string algorithms or formal
languages and automaton theory is desirable
- Aptitude for independent scientific work, personal commitment, as well as
team and communication skills,
- Very good command of spoken and written English,
- Interest to carry out a doctoral project.
